RICHARD GUTIERREZ HOSTS “SIGNOS”

Richard Gutierrez hosts SignosRichard Gutierrez, undeniably GMA’s most prized talent, lends his star
appeal to “Signos: Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima,” a documentary special on global warming and its effect on the Philippines produced by GMA News and Public Affairs.

Richard, an active environmentalist and Greenpeace advocate, will narrate the documentary and appear in short segments where he imparts very practical tips on how to lessen the effects of global warming.

“I am so honored to be part of this project,” exclaims Richard as he was about to tape his spiels and record his narrations for “Signos” at the GMA Studios yesterday, April 13. Richard admits that he became an active environmentalist after watching “An Inconvenient Truth”, the Oscar-winning documentary on global warming hosted by former US Vice President Al Gore. “I was in Australia when I saw it last year and I remember being so disturbed after watching it. The effects of global warming are so shocking and I know that one day, it’s gonna hit us as well,” says the young actor.

“Signos” is the first locally produced documentary on the alarming signs of climate change in the Philippines. Richard is joined by GMA’s veteran reporters Howie Severino, Maki Pulido and Raffy Tima as they investigate some of the manifestations of global warming and climate change in the country, such as the impact of supertyphoons that hit Bicol two years ago, flashfloods that wiped out towns in Davao del Sur, coastal erosion due to sea-level rise in Bauang, La Union, and the alarming increase of dengue and malaria cases in Quezon.

“Global warming will directly affect us sooner or later and with ‘Signos’, we hope to raise the awareness of every Filipino about this very important issue,” Richard concludes.
“Signos: Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima” airs on April 20, Sunday, after “Full Haus.”

  2. i was surprised when I knew na si Richard ang maghohost nito kasi diba under sa GMA News & Public Affairs ito? Pero I think it is a good decision kasi Richard is a role model. Member din siya ng Greenpeace kaya I know he can relate to this.

Siguradong hit itong SIgnos na ito, and it would be one of the most recommended documentary in the future.

    Congratulations! ” SIGNOS ”

Those ( Polluters ) who only think about themselves, trying to monopolize all good things for themselves are people whose minds are impure. There is no peace for people who live this way because they are always busy worrying that others might see through them and find out what they are thinking.
On the other hand, those ( anti Polluter) who care for others, even forgetting their own needs, are people with pure minds. Because they need not fear how other people see them or what others say about them, their minds are peaceful and always serene.

More Power and Good luck to all who cares our Mothers nature

  5. I’m not a Kapuso but I’m happy that GMA started the crusade for a Healthy Earth… I hope my future grandsons/daughters will still enjoy the “earth”, like we are enjoying right now… And please, Play the documentary in every school in the Philippines!

I’m hoping that this will result into vast awareness of the people around the globe with regards to global warming, a WAR that is worse than world war 1 and 2. This is very moving. CONGRATULATIONS TO MY GMA7. KAYO LANG PO ANG TANGING MAKAKAGAWA NITONG SHOW NA ITO. keep up the good work.

I believe it is a long process and it may takes time to harvest the fruits of this act but surely our children– the future hope of the world, will benifit from it. Let us all do our SHARE.

  14. What a wonderful show. I regret to say that I managed to watch only the first 30 mins [I was far too sleepy to carry on]. Will this show be aired at a later date, I wonder, and perhaps at an earlier time? The late schedule probably discouraged the younger viewers, and so a rerun would be a good idea. This is too good an opportunity for people to be more conscious of their environment to pass up. A lot of people -and Mother Earth as well- will benefit from this show: GREAT JOB KAPUSO! <3

  15. pwede po ba na i reply ung signos sa mas maaga kasi even small children are aware in their invironment. pleeesee!

  16. I’m waiting for a replay, ang dami kasing nag-text sa akin na either ‘di raw nila napanuod o natapos kasi sobrang late na. :( Any re-run in the offing? Hehe. ;)

  17. d haunted says:

great show.. truly an eye-opener.. hope u can replay it with an ealier time slot…

  18. Thank you for this documentary film. We as teachers would like to spread the word and take some actions regarding Global Warming. We hope to have this in DVD format to help us in teaching the youth today about Global Warming and its true effect. I hope you can have a DVD copy of this. GodBless the Philippines!

  19. element_115x says:

Great job, but not ‘thorough’ enough in it’s content. The ‘over’-population bane and illegal logging issues has been left out in order to focus more on rampaging waters (due to rising sea-levels) brought about by melting ice sheets (in polar regions) as the main ’cause’ for various disasters in the country. The natural cyclical geologic processes that sees the planet enter into periodic ice ages was not even tackled. Plus the ‘nosebleeding’ looooooong commercials didn’t help at all.

But as i said, it’s a great docu nontheless! Too bad they didn’t schedule it on an earlier time slot so that the majority of the ‘non-environmentally conscious’ people - who the docu should ‘awaken’, and where it ALL really matters - could have seen it. The replay should compensate for this though.

  20. tteamanna says:

I agree with element_115x’s first comment. While the documentary is aptly entitled “Signos” owing to the fact that its main focus was on the signs of Global Warming in the country; more focus should have been placed on:

    a) laymanized discussions of the science behind global warming
ex. viewers are asking “Why does global warming lead to increased rainfall and floods?”
-> a discussion on CO2 and Greenhouse Gases would have been very useful… Why not use the GMA commercial on the millions of Mr. sun beams being trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere? That was pretty clever

    b) the “Filipinization” of the solutions to Global Warming:
While we barely contribute to the global CO2 emissions, the best that we could do is to no longer further exacerbate the effects of climate change that we cannot control. The most important recommendations for the Philippines are as follows:
    - (TOP PRIORITY) manage the population so as not to put too much pressure on the earth’s resource
    - stop kaingin and other harmful deforestation methods
    - manage food supply
    - improve waste management and sewage systems
    - improve disaster management

Signos is truly the first docu of its kind in the Philippines. I understand that GMA would very much want to very away from any impression that it has been “copy catting” Al Gore’s AIT. However, it wouldn’t have been at all that bad if they borrowed the findings in AIT for the global perspective, and then zeroed in on the local perspective in order to have given it more scientific grounding. The Filipinos are ready for this. Do not be afraid that the “masa” will shun away from this issue.
