That's his urn below his portrait as a Kalinga warrior. Together with the modern warrior and the ipod kids, this slightly jarring tableau is a statement on Obusan's world.  Ramon Obusan was proud of his year-ending program at the CCP, Vamos de Belen. He died hours after its first performance. His dancers did not even consider cancelling the second and third shows a day later. "He would have been angry if we did that," said a wistful Cherry, who worked with Ramon as dancer and then fellow dance teacher for 17 years.  Obusan may have had more documentation of his work and that of others than any other Filipino artist ever. So of course his wake featured video screenings of his dances and other work, including Lukayo, the documentary where he introduced to us traditions we had never heard of before. Trackbacks

National Artist Ramon Ubusan was a role model to his dance-contemporaries (Fatima "INDA" Manuel-Gage, Carmen "MENCHIT" Lagdameo-Stull and Patty Lim-Yusah to name a few); he was a teacher and mentor to today's dancers and will remain an inspiration to all future generations of dancers in the Philippines. His contributions to Philippine Dance will be a strong hold in saving our rich culture...MABUHAY si Ramon Ubusan!
