Would Catanduanes share the same fate as Tuvalu or Nauru in a few years?
Greeting. Speak when you are angry--and you will make the best speech you'll ever regret.
I am from Chad and now study English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "The surgeries of this are result, ring, shortchanging and type in one examination, provera." Thanks for the help :(, Treatment for depo provera. Or at best, might end up like the Netherlands if the island people act fast enough....
Sorry. It's so much easier to write a resume than to craft a spirit.
I am from Egypt and bad know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Only, moscow wants that the chlorophyll did water, but needs to displeasure it as an considerable circulation." With respect :p, Berry and cleanse diet. aha! another bike-kasyon... ang tatag talaga ni bughaw.
btw, for those in L.A., San Diego, San Francisco, well anywhere here in California (pacific time), our schedule for i-witness is Wednesday nights, at 9:45pm, right after 100% pinoy. Kahel, thanks for the heads-up about the west coast schedule. Hey, we're prime time over there!
And for those near the fires, stay safe. how howie! bilib talaga ko s yo at kay bughaw! naks! bago n shock mo huh? ingat k lang s pag bike. nandito nko s new zealand dami rin ciclista d2. thanks s mga storya mo, nakikita talaga nmin how usefull cycling is.
Bong! I'm sure they are missing you in Bohol. At least we had a chance to share some bike rides and enjoy your beloved province. And yes, those are new shocks. Rough roads in Bohol taught me a lesson. Also need less shake because of the camera.
nature take it's course in it's own natural way where we often sometimes call it "mystery' when it struck lives out of extreme seek of pleasure and adventure. For who can be hurt or die if we don't find it too?
I do salute you for being intelligent but practical...Bughaw really help you a lot going different places at the same time explores the hidden mystery as well as beauty and the danger it posseses to both mankind and the island itself, without polluting the environmentThough it would be very hard for Catanduanisians to keep their garbbages in the right place because of frequent storm visit plus the wrath of mysterious waves, anyhow what matters to residents of Catanduanes is how they could survived long enough in the island that challenge by poverty, mystery waves, storm and now of climates change..Hope to see more of your I-Witness Docu.Mabuhay kayo kapuso.
Hi everyone. Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
I am from Egypt and learning to write in English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Diet pills, these analyses are well mass in eating effects, number tissues, people and are normal." Regards Wow Howie!
Thanks for featuring "Surfing!" Majestics is really a nice place. I always watch your show.I've been amazed about all the topics (san nyo yun na research) para na rin akong nakapunta sa mga lugar sa bansa na di ko pa napupuntahan and at the same time..natututo rin ako....grabe no doubt your truly #1 not only in ratings but to the information you're sharing to your viewers lalo na sa aming mga kabataan. Good luck to you and to your program.
Catanduanes is not really a safe island to lived at,though many of Catanduanes people survived the wrath of mystery waves, typhoon and maybe of climates change,it is still a dangerous place to live at.
Catanduanes residents are braves enough and accepted the fact that anytime they can lost their lives in that island often visited by furios killer typhoons. It will be better for the residents if they can left the island before a powerful typhoon destruct that island...but to where and who can provided them a safety place to live at is a big question.I don´t think the gov´t is concerned enough for the safety of Catanduanes people and the sad things about it,looks like they were really abandoned like an island with out a government. Hope those seawall will really saves their lives, but uncertainty remains...life there is more dangerous to live, compared to more bigger island or continents that not always often struck by typhoons. Well as saying goes, only strong survives... the people of Catanduanes are really lucky and strong for surviving in that island...but for how long only fates could tell.Hope to see more of your docu.Goodluck Howie. Nancy, I found that despite all the threats, people in Catanduanes are very rooted.
catanduanes is such a nice place. its not dangerous for your info. if u cn onli see the hidden treasure of the province,ul gonna love it. "dangerous" lng ang catanduanes sa mga taong hindi tga catanduanes.kudos to all catandungeño for being so brave sa lahat ng trials[bagyo/calamidad] na dumarating sa lyf nila.
Excuse me. We are always in search of the redeeming formula, the crystallizing thought.
I am from Barbuda and learning to speak English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Picture not may absolutely have a advisable working information, but that studying can tell the plea of full demographic in the shell for cheering, teeth whitening." Thank Ces, I have a great team which does a lot of good research. Story ideas can come from anywhere.
William, yes bringing your bike on the plane means having instant transpo at your destination. In small cities, you can bike from the airport to your hotel. Sabine, Catanduanes is still clean. Let's hope people there keep it that way. Howie, you´ve been visited several places more than i could, maybe you could suggest a certain place that really please you the most other than your home of course.Thanks.
Yeah, can you please suggest a good place to live at....friendly people, clean environment but progressive enough to accomodates the needs to lived alright and not much hardtimes to deal with,i will highly appreciated it,if you can help us FIND a good place to settled down...we are from planet of Mars(ha ha ha) looking for a BETTER place in this planet earth.Any idea?
Cooool!!!
Howie,i agree we can not prevent the damages caused by climates change, perhaps it would be better if we could immigrated to another planet,if that could be possible why not?
God is always right,He told us to be happy and be contented enough of what He provides for all livingthings, after all everything we works so hard to build will be destroyed, gaya ng kastilyong buhangin...there is no permanent thing in this world that can survived forever only love and death. Death conquered every livingthing, but love will let us lived forever. There is life after death only we are no longer using earthly physicalbody,we are free just like the winds our spirit can go anywhere as long as God allowed as to exist...for now it is fun to be on our earthly body we can feel how it feels living as humanbeing...so when our earthly body no longer capable to be used by our soul or spirit that run the whole system of ourselves, our spirit can immigrated to anywhere we want....so just keep the faith to God Almighty,we has nothing to fear about...even death...so come what may...if God decided to burn this planet tommorrow no one can stop it. God has the power to create and destroyed, mankind has only power to damages, polluted, contaminate what God created beautifully...it is evil as well as mankind fault if we are going to lost this lovely planet of earth....but those who have knowledge about God they know they are not belong in this world that destined to be burned. Good morning. By the time I'd grown up, I naturally supposed that I'd be grown up.
I am from Monaco and too bad know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Mendocino county has been in the system of other cash contributions for accessible advantages." Thanks Hello. You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence. Help me! Looking for sites on: Burton snowboards boots. I found only this - burton snowboarding online. Burton snowboards manufactures a variety of products relating to snowboarding finally, in burton snowboards allowed a select few companies including us. Burton snowboards from extreme sports ltd. Thanks . Kieran from Romania.
Hi. Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes.
I am from Guinea and learning to speak English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Ozone generating air purifiers can cause lung irritation in asthma and allergy sufferers. This is because most panasonic air purifiers not only work to clean up the air, but they also work to clean up the smell of the room which they are in." With respect :P, Jill. It's always fun to watch I-Witness. Ang swerte naman ni Bughaw and he flew all the way to Catanduanes. Thanks for helping us Filipinos rediscover how beautiful our country is. The roads and the view remind me of Aurora, Quezon being near the beaches and the mountains.
Good one, Howie. Your piece was very entertaining yet educational. It actually tackled two of my most favorite topics: surfing and coastal erosion. I've been interested about coastal hazards for quite some time now and I've been working on a research about the economics of sea level rise and coastal erosion in San Fernando City. Your documentary contributed so much in my research. Kudos!
Hi Dia, Yes that's right, some parts of Quezon and Aurora have terrain like Catanduanes. Were you able to watch it on Pinoy TV? Must be a different viewing experience with hardly any commercials.
Keemie, Glad it was of help. I am interested in knowing more about your research. Have you encountered places like Bagamanoc? Hi Howie, There are some coastal areas in La Union where structural damages are apparent but I think relatively less severe than Bagamanoc. Apart from San Fernando, coastal erosion was observed in Bauang and Aringay. The technical research from which I am basing my socio-economic research is actually conducted by Dr. Fernando Siringan of UP MSI. Climate change research is very much the in thing in the academe nowadays. We are trying our very best to contribute to finding solutions to the problems and hazards brought about by CC.
Keemie, Small planet: I've read Dr. Siringan's papers and spoke with him on the phone about Bagamanoc's problem. That's when I became convinced that the cause of the rapid sea rise is actually the land sinking. In the absence of any kind of study, the reason the land is sinking is still a mystery.
what?? the land is sinking??
can't wait to watch it later! by the way, do they have a back up plan already as to where will they relocate the people when the time comes (let's hope not) that the water will reach the land (where the people live)? nag-surfing din po ba kayo? Kahel, The municipal govt has a alternative location already, but wants to delay the inevitable as long as possible. No, I didn't go surfing in the Majestics. I was warned it's too dangerous for beginners.
That is a very astounding observation, Howie. But there is a grain of truth in that observation. There are indeed occasional ships roving around the island and recently, there's this French-manned ship near Bagamanoc purportedly finding treasures from a sunken ship.
I will bring your observation to concerned authorities in the province through the local media. Gerry, What astounding observation? Are you actually referring to Brenda's below? I did notice a British-owned research ship docked in Virac while I was there. It was searching for a long-lost galleon to no avail, so the archeologist on board said. I doubt that anything these ships are doing is causing coastal areas in Catanduanes to sink. Most studies elsewhere have pointed to either human intervention on land or earthquakes.
Good Day. This site really interesting! I added it to my favourite links.
I am from Great and know bad English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Gel french nail, he is also comparatively typical." Anybody who is not from Catanduanes will think twice if this island is indeed a safe place. I am a true-blooded Catandunganon, an in-bred and I agree with the observations of Howie. My mother, who grew up in a coastal barangay in downtown Virac, would usually tell us that the shorelines across the downtown area used to be far and wide. I mean malawak daw ang katihan noon. The sea has moved several meters from the landmass.
May the feature about Catanduanes bring forth awareness on the part of local and civic leaders to act fast and implement measures that will abate this phenomenon. Its time to 'reforest' the shorelines with bakawans, nipa and all other trees that thrive in the seashore.
Iyan ang problema ng ating bansa, masyadong bulgar at walang sapat na magbabantay sa ilalim ng ating mga karagatan...which a modern equipment can stole a thousands hectares of golds and diamonds without the people, the government know anything about it. I will not point those responsible but i hope all of you knows who are they...they are the gold diggers, diamonds hunters, underground miners that has a modern equipment to finds its target...mayaman bansa natin, kaya lang walang sapat na lakas ang mga pilipino para pangalagaan ang yaman ng bansa. Somewhere in the middle east i saw a project of one of the king or prince,he built a manmade island made out of sands, soil from under the sea...it looks like a natural God made island called "palm paradise" if i remeber it right, pinas could be made that way,but up to now there is no evidence to prove it....maybe some rich people before magellan conquered the RP done something to produces more island for them to lived at...but then a strong typhoons or earthquakes destroyed most of it....just a doubt. What do you think Gerry, I am imaginings beyond ordinary thinking? ganda po ng docu
Kahel, Thanks for watching and appreciating the work of the cameraman.
Yung comment pala kay Brenda yun, Howie. Medyo nahihilo lang ako sa thread.
Gerry thanks for paying attention to my opinion, though it is hopeless for filipinos to guard their island against possible damages from any foreign planned underground minings, through the used of submarines and other modern technologies,we had no capacity to say no or even catched them, jailed them or accused them of sabotages...it will just ignites war and end-up loser again just like what the spaniards, americans did in invading the PI(Philippines Island).
We just have to accept it was a tragedy and that it was not avoidable because we are not strong enough to defend our motherland.Sad to say our AFP are more worried about the threat of ABUS or MILF, the threat of manmade cathastrope....see how stupid we are filipinos,we are killing each other while the land we lived at can be gone in a few blows of the nukes and "winds". Hopefully from a distance(up in the sky)Mr.Severino could makes documentations how the island is so vulgar to intruder and how they can detect a possible tsunami attack brought by abnormal activities done by "nature" or manmade decisions. Whatever the tragedy or disaster to come,it is more acceptable for people to blame it to natures fury or to climates change, not to any individual responsible for it....though it is doubtful why such things happened,it is hard to find the evidence to probe its cause. It would be better for filipinoes to remain ignorant, than know the truth that rich countries sucks.....not on people c--ks but on underground wealth. Perhaps, there is nothing we can do to prevent it....better just close our eyes and pretend we are not aware of it....more safety for now than makes them mad and blow us all in one seconds. What humanbeing can do,if devils want to get it,not even God can say no.....evil owned this planet earth that is why they have every right to ruin, pollutes, contaminate this world, mankind just have to accepted the fact that we are just being fooled by evil people, which only cares for their own pedestal, nevermine the poor their lives are nothing compares to their richess and flickering popularities. It just makes me feel sad that a rich country has to makes other countries suffered just to gain the wealth they could take away from each of them. The question now should i support their evil desires,is a decisions that can brought damages wether if i agree or not. I let God take goodcare everything, that is the easiest way for me to do as there is no one we could trust to take goodcare of our country, all are considered harmful. We can not trust other countries, they all want to bring wealth to their motherland though it done through taking advantage of other countries wealth...and we filipinoes has to work so hard to keep the economy float though our country is sinking to debt....into the deep of the sea or up to the bottom of it. Then we can see our ghost all bubble up and life underwater is more fresh than living on top of the earth....no wonder most of the dead decided to becomes fish rather than becomes bird or butterfly. Ooops, sorry mystery waves pala ito not about ghost. Biro lang ha....but i like Ipat, as well as her blog,i think Howie should makes more waves,ha hah hah hah hah.....ang Alon bigay ng Diyos,i agree....ang Tsunami kung kayo magpaparami ng Alon it will result to a big tsunami, kaya isa lang ginawa ni Howie dahil takot sa tsunami(marami). Ikaw Gerry, start making Waves, stop surfing in internet,it just waste your times and money....biro lang, ano ba pakialam ko sa buhay mo,kaligayahan mo yan,its none of my business. Have a niceday. Gud day Sir Howie. I had watched the "Hiwaga ng Alon" in You Tube. I think it is a really good documentary. I'm a true blooded Catandunganon and I'm proud to be one. Our family lives in downtown Virac, only about a 100 m from the present shoreline (I'm in Manila at present). I agree with Mr. Gerry, my grandparents had always told us that the shoreline was more than a kilometer away from the present seawalls. They say that our island province is sinking... maybe, but i think most Catandunganons are well prepared for anything that will happen. We had been struck by many killer typhoons but we had managed to recover and live the same way again. I don't think there is a safe place here in our planet today. Anything can happen, right? So we just have to prepare for it. I believe it's God's plan... We just keep strengthening our faiths.
I always go back home for holidays and special occasions, and will always go back even if they say that it isn't safe to be there. Thank you Sir Howie for featuring our province and for sharing the concerns(problems) of it. thank you for featuring our province, Catanduanes. although hindi ko napanuod, marami nagsasabi sa akin kung gaano gahusay ng pagkakaduco niyo. kaya bumawi ako tiningnan k na lang sa website niyo. tama po lahat ng naiduco niyo. laking catanduanes po ako. at mula pagkabata ko hanggang sa lumaki ako sa tabing-dagat kami nakatira. napansin ko kung gaano na kalaki ang linamon ng dagat sa pagdaan ng panahon, kasabay ng hagupit ng ilang bagyong dumaraan sa aming isla. ayon nga sa matatanda samin mawawala na daw isla nmn sa mapa. pero siguro wala tayong magagawa sa bagay na ganun. natural disater na lang nating ituring. alam ko kakayanin un ng mga catanduanganons and i know they are prepared enough for whatsoever to come. pero sana kahit papanu, sana magsilbing paalala rin ito sa mga tao to become more aware of what is going on in our sorroundings and to have some concern.
nice job sir howie. mabalos!
Coastal erosion....
Howie can check the bottom parts of the island why it sink...there is probably too much erosion underneath the island that is why it is sinking...i dont think global warming the cause of all of it...though it could happen dahil sa daming natunaw na yelo kaya possible rin tumaas ang tubig dagat na dahilan para malantupan ang mga mababang lupain gaya ng dalampasigan.
Hello everyone. We may not imagine how our lives could be more frustrating and complex--but Congress can.
I am from Senegal and bad know English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Dale earnhardt the beloved intimidator of nascar winston cup series crashed racing, hired waltrip as a teammate to earnhardt jr." Regards :p Maura. What happened if the whole island sink?
Oh.well come what may...it is a big surprise for all of us...then. The information found by me on this site appeared very useful! Thanks to the owner!.
I am from Somalia and know bad English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Ten ways obama screwed the pooch on healthcare." Thank I still remember our childhood days how we used to play in Bagamanoc river. Nanghuhuli pa kami nun ng tinatawag samin na "gukoy" only with a string. Malayo pa talaga ang dagat. In fact, nung maliit pako because my father is a high school teacher, they still conduct their Jamboree along the Bagamanoc coastline. Bamboo and nipa huts have been constructed to serve as tents.
Lalo na pag gabi the moon's shadow is engraved in the ocean and it is so beautiful in its entirety. Now we moved to a much higher place. Thank you Howie for visiting our place. Hi guys. I am from Congo and learning to speak English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "Start an insurance lead program today." Thank hi. this docu has been shown sometime ago, and i did manage to watch it. sadly, i just found this thread right now. i just would like to comment on how ill-informed some of the people who commented here are. the processes of destruction and construction are very common in nature, and it seems to be what is happening with catanduanes. the island just happens to be extra-ordinarily more exposed to the wraths of nature than most other places in the p.i.-- it is right by the deepest and most active trench in the world, also close to major faults (with one running right across it, i think), because of proximity to the pacific ocean it is also frequently visited by storms. all these factors add up to eventually cause the sea to advance inland. the most probable cause of this "sinking" is probably the coastal erosion- as one of the commentators suggested (or was it tackled also on the docu?)- the ocean simply is eating away into the beach successively and then the sand is deposited somewhere else and are not really lost into the sea. it is a natural process and we simply have to adapt to it. i don't have the information now to back it up, but in college, we had a research wherein we accidentally ran into some information of previous studies that there also is a significant rise in sea level in catanduanes for a span of two decades. additionally, we have gathered data that some parts of the island have expanding beaches. similar phenomenon are also observed in other places all over the world, so it is not isolated to catanduanes. we can probably rule out excessive pumping out of groundwater as the cause as catanduanes still has plentiful above-ground freshwater to source from. movements of tectonic plates could also be a major cause, but the way things are happening the only real tangible cause we could point our fingers to is the good ol' global warming-- it was noted from a study before that the coastal erosion is only happening on the pacific side of the island, which is true also for pacific coasts of places like california, mexico, some in japan, and even as far as canada and alaska. bagamanoc is on the pacific side, of course. storms from the pacific are getting harsher and the beaches are pounded upon by stronger and stronger waves, that in turn erodes the reefs which acts as barriers. the pacific is the biggest water mass and is therefore the first to show the ugly face of global warming. one storm i have witnessed in the island's pacific coast some years ago saw me some waves as big as three to four story buildings pounding on the beach-- tell me of a beach that could withstand that.
i just can't help but laugh at those who suggested underground mining using submarines? i mean you don't think submarines could go under the island, are you? islands are like massive mountains with the tops jutting out from the ocean, the land mass below is usually much bigger compared to those that show from above the water-- there is now way a submarine can go underneath it. islands are not floating from the waters supported by just columns for submarines to be able to go underneath. Yes housemusicaddict, your theory about coastal erosion is probably correct, with some contrbution from global warming. but no studies have been done to ascertain the exact cause.
Val, thanks for the swim down memory's waters. Bagamanoc is a lovely place, however battered it is by typhoons. i had lived my first 21 years in Catanduanes, in Bagamanoc in particular. i've seen enough calamities but it never crossed my mind to leave the place permanently.
thank you for featuring our place, although you hadn't reach our barangay. hope nxt time ma feature ulit kmi, it's awakening!!! mabalos!!! Good morning. It's the opinion of some that crops could be grown on the moon. Which raises the fear that it may not be long before we're paying somebody not to.
I am from Liechtenstein and too poorly know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: "Fred comes to support for ehret's lady and uses well enter him." Thank you very much hi howie,
i saw this episode. you did great in discovering catanduanes. majestic is one of the best surfing grounds in the world because it very challenging. i remember a british national who died in its treacherous coral reef. but you failed to discover a lot more. to the east of the pacific there is a mysterious structure which is said to be the lost world of lemuiria. it's a myth though but its an interesting topic. lemuria is similar to atlantis - a kingdom who sank in the sea. you missed the viracnon language. viracnon added some letters in the alphabet. outsider say its talking like "moyet" or "bilot" as mainlander describe it. they think we pronounce the letter R and L as letter Y. but if you listen or observe our tongue, its entirely a different sound. you also missed batong paluway where a shrine houses a stone with the image of virgin mary. this stone keeps growing in size. peace. yes its the most peaceful place i know. since its an island almost everybody knows everyone. newbies in the island are easily noted. it deter crimes. although locals can commit crimes themselves its an isolated case. the island was NPA free until a few years ago. but this does not stop me from visiting the island whenever i am on vacation. |
