Friday, January 1. 2010The first day and the last
For Rio, Luna, Gabgab, Noni, Padma and Anabanana
Past the old year is Janus – January, the first month, its opening day a two-faced janissary looking back and towards a new period that has yet to unfold. Djamangeen gar oo chagar, an Armenian saying goes. Once upon a time there was and there wasn't.[1] There is the first day and the last, a bud from the carcass of timber. "Before the wig and the dress coat," wrote Pablo Neruda, "there were rivers.../ there was dampness and dense growth, the thunder as yet unnamed./ Man was dust... an eyelid/ of tremulous loam, the shape of clay --/ Tender and bloody was he, but on the grip/ of his weapon of moist flint,/ the initials of the earth were/ written." But the "wind forgot them," wrote Neruda, "the language of water/ was buried, the keys were lost/ or flooded with silence" and though "[l]ife was not lost.../ a lamp of earth was extinguished."[2] But still we could see far, farther because we embraced the void and in it there were no inanimate objects. In another age, olden Ilonggos spoke of a sky so near "it could be reached with a stick" and the Bagobos say once upon a time the earth was hot ground because the sun was too close, so low even the gods were at times singed by the sun's heat.[3] To the Palawan, proximity with the heavenly was implied; the first people were children of sky gods who settled on earth by climbing down a balugu vine, which was later cut.[4] Myths abound among the ancients of days when the upper realm was still touchable sky and when divinities mingled and flourished with stewards. And one day the breaking, a storied breach resulting in exile, separating for perpetuity the earthbound with the celestial. Somehow ever since we've been looking for a way back. Sometimes we're successful and sometimes we don't make it. But we always try. In the beginning there was light. And then there was sound. And that was it. So unfolded the genesis of Copenhagen, erstwhile venue and tag of the global climate negotiations, crafted to hammer out solutions to threats of our own making, which began as hope and ended as a broken vase.[5] But we'll dust ourselves and put back together the shattered pieces. Because the last day is already yesterday and today is the first. Over four decades ago humans aboard a pod hurtled away and pierced the sky. A little after that we managed to finally land on the moon. Cast out, beyond the planetary canopy, the intimacy of a closed biosphere was rediscovered, altering fundamentally the grammar of our thinking, and what a sight it was. "One giant leap for mankind," said Armstrong. "Magnificent desolation," said Aldrin.[6] A big bright blue ball composed of stone and cloud and water, "indifferent," said the writer Eduardo Galeano, "as if it didn't feel a single tickle from the human passions that swarm on its soil."[7] It was a different kind of imminence. "[L]ike something out of Herodotus," said Anne Druyan, who wrote the Cosmos series with her husband Carl Sagan, "when a young king would decree an impossible task, be slain and yet within the time allotted [the] mythic decree would be fulfilled." [8] Sagan, the great mind who had briefed the astronauts during their training, had watched the event from a hospital bed in a dream state, almost bleeding to death after going through an operation, and he saw on television "through the haze of painkillers" the verse "he had been thinking about since he was a child."[9] "The thing I remember," remarked the novelist Samuel R. Delaney, recounting the moon landing, "is that the first astronaut who put his foot on the ground, his first words were 'Okay I'm at the bottom of the ladder.' Then he said the famous quote. It was a very humble statement and it tells us exactly where we actually were."[10] Where we actually still are. Today we lay claim to the best feats of our species and face the greatest range of our abilities – titans in our minds but still too oblivious of our place, of the tiny space we occupy in the few things we have divined. ------- Red Constantino is the author of The Poverty of Memory: Essays on History and Empire (CFNS, 2006). [5] John Vidal, environment editor of the British paper The Guardian, delivered one of the better snapshots of the recently concluded international climate negotiations held in Copenhagen, Denmark. "It started," said Vidal, "with several hours of fantastically pompous speeches by world leaders pretending to be green and pretending to be concerned about the environment." There was France, and Germany, and India and China. And it was US President Barack Obama's turn at the podium, and "he came up with absolutely nothing at all." Nice writing and acknowledgment. Worth thinking what we've accomplished and heading.
Nice Article to read in the beginning of the year.
the first(Alpha)and the last(Omega)Red you forget to mentioned the middle which is Phi(Philippines) as the Revelation said: Lightning will start from the east and end to west...that could be a war that would erupt from european nation against western countries...and the north against south like NK to SK and nation against nation the end is truly near so Nostradamus could be right by year 2012 this planet would be set into inferno.
we all must prepared ourselves for that scenario and let people know not to panic at all,as the Holy Bible said,if you are in the roof of your house don´t go down just to get something and those two people in the field one will be taken and the other one will be left,i wonder what it means knowing there will be only 144,000 blessed individual granted to inherit Kingdom of God,so if one must stay and the other will be taken as being save, then half of world population are save, anyone knows about it,please let me know. Sorry if i´ve been writing about this again but watching the movie 2012 it looks like Nostradamus and the prophecy in the Holy Bible are pointing on the same direction"end of time"or the start of the end. what do you think guys? I don't believe only 144,000 will gain salvation out of billions of humans who lived through the millenniums. That will be unfair even to the true God. It's only an inaccurate interpretation of the Bible of various faiths that made salvation limited to the few. I believed more with the explanation of the link below which is truly Bible-based and accurate, the restoration of the real purpose of God for humans to live forever in a paradise earth while the chosen few will rule as kings in heaven with Christ Jesus for a thousand year.
http://www.watchtower.org/e/20090401/article_01.htm thank you for your kind response on my opinion.
is your religion is Jehovah´s Witness a.k.a mormons? i believed this planet earth was used to be a paradise but because satan had makes this planet his home base everyone here inflicted of satan´s venum that makes everyone immune to sin. i´d tried to search which country is serving as paradise on this planet earth, but i see none. Each country has its own people that live and die in sickness, accident, disaster, war or old age. Paradise as it said in the Holy Bible, its floor is made of gold and diamonds and its walls are made of different kinds of very expensives stone.Kaya bawal ang minero at magnanakaw sa heaven kasi baka gawin uli negosyo ng mga ganid na negosyante ang mamahalin bato sa langit lang matatagpuan.12 Gates will remain open(for what reason i don´r know)siguro para kung gusto pumasyal sa ibang planeta laging bukas ang pintuan sa paalis at pabalik na mga anghel at anak ng Diyos na pinagkalooban na ng mga pakpak para makalipad o kapangyarihan just say it and you will be there on the destination you want to reach. By the way, will you please name the country that your religion said was the hidden paradise in this planet earth,if there is any at all? i once heard the story of a lady being befriend by a fairy.Ayon sa babae gusto syang kumbinsihin ng mga engkantada na tumira sa kanilang paraiso kung saan wala ng tumatanda at wala ng namamatay pero iyon ay kung kakain sya ng "kanin- itim" na nandoon sa pinakasentro ng hugis oval na misa ng mga engkanto at sa paligid ng kanin iyon ay iba´t-ibang klaseng prutas na syang pinaka pagkain nilang lahat sakaling nakakaramdam sila ng gutom, pero ayon sa ina ng babaing gusto mahikayat ng mga engkanto, syimpre paano pa magugutom kung ang mortal na katawan ay patay na,ibig sabihin ang kaluluwa lang ng anak nya ang tanging kapiling ng mga engkanto hindi ang mortal nyang katawan. kung pumayag ang babae tiyak nakakain sya ng itim na kanin at sigurado sa oras din yon ang mga kapitbahay o kapamilya, kapuso, albularyo, mediko legal atbp ay idedeklara syang patay kung makita nilang wala ng pulso at hindi na humihinga ang katawan-tao na iniwan nya na paglaoy kusang magiging lupa muli dahil nagmula sa lupa sa lupa rin babalik. but according to her(babaing inaamiga ng mga engkanto)the place was very cool and everywhere was a fruits trees bearing its fruits and a spring of water was flowing freely in the midst of the said garden of eden of fairybeings...sounds like almost paradise but what convinced myself it was a hoax paradise dahil sa kondisyon ibinigay ng mga engkanto sa gusto nilang maging kaibigan, that means to be with them is to accept death by eating the said black-rice that being serves to every invited guest they want to becomes part of their so called paradise...as for me it was a satan´s made paradise. what do you pards? The Jehovah's Witness religion is NOT the same with the Mormons. Our earth was never been a paradise as what God had purposed which made Him sad except for the small part Garden of Eden believed to be somewhere in ancient Iraq. Adam and Eve were given the assignment to expand paradise but Satan mingled with God's plan. Nevertheless God had purposed it to happen so it will not come back to him unfulfilled and for the time being let Satan until these days to prove his accusations and lies. Now no doubt Satan is a real liar that 'till now even the simpliest problems we cannot solve or find a cure. Sure NO place on earth now is a paradise where people live in abundance of peace, hapiness, no sickness & death, no country, no poverty, no hunger, no disunity, no terrorism, no pollution, all have one faith, etc. The promised and planned paradise is yet to come soon or in the near future. Nobody knows when, yet we have a hope that not a limited people will only gain salvation. A big group of people out of every nation, tribes, tongues (both dead and living) will also be saved that will pave for the unfulfilled plan of God to make this WHOLE EARTH a paradise, not just a small place. You can't achieve salvation by just knowing, everyone who's wishing for it should learn first the accurate knowledge from God by his written word. It's not that easy to achieve it that Jesus even said it's easier for a camel to pass a needle's eye than for a rich man. I believe nobody can learn and understand the truth from the Bible just overnight, it's even useless of knowing it without actions. It takes lots of time to make a research both spiritual and secular and a bold move to accept the facts without bias. In addition, not all Bible translations are equal which even makes the search a little confusing due to the partiality of the early translators. It's like treasure hunting of knowing who's fake and who's not that calls for in-depth analysis with a sound judgement. It calls for a REAL REASONING because the truth is not mythical, a tale, or hypothetical. But its worth the effort since it will affect the person's life now and in the future.
I can't believe that you people are still taking seriously the so-called Bible prophecies, and Nostradamus. Many in history has predicted the end of the world since time immemorial and they have all failed. There are no such things as prophets - they are all just deluded people. Jesus is not the Messiah in the Old Testament prophecies, ask the Jews. Nostradamus' successful prophecies are always after the fact, because his believers twist his quatrains to fit the events.
Get real, grow up! God is Santa Claus for adults. Think for yourselves - don't let your priests, pastors, imams, rabbis and gurus think for you. Use your critical thinking and sort out the facts. Investigate your holy books and see if there is any truth to what they say or if there is any evidence for their gods. There are thousands of dead gods in history. Your god is no different.
I Agree....Dapat i-challenge ang mga masyadong nag papaniwala sa tsismis na yan...kung talagang malaki ang paniniwala nilang matatapos na ang mundo, 2 years from now, ibigay nila ang lahat na ari-arian nila sa charity...
Magtira lamang ng sapat hanggang 21 Dec, 2010.... Tutal, it doesn't matter na sa kanila ang 2yrs....spend their time sa kapapanalangin, mag lulukso...gumawa ng mabuti...para sa ganun makasali sila sa 144,000....kung merong ngang ganung 144,000.... I don't really beleive those stuff.... Gumugulo lang ang mundo...nagiging desperado sa buhay ang mga nauuto nila... Buti pa mag bigti na lang ang mga nag papaniwala sa katapusan ng mundo para di na sila mag suffer pa... Thanks for writing this article. It's really inspiring.
Maybe our natives are more aware of this planets history.they say the sky and the gods were closer to earth that gods can mingle with them.
We should not be proud of what mankind achieved at this point in time. Mankind history is regressive.every time human civilization reaches its technological peaks, they dissappear. We should be very careful of who we call god.history tell us that all beings from heaven were called god by our ancestors.we should not debate of how many will be taken and how many will be left behind. And if we think that earth is or was a paradise before, think again.lets put it this way,we should be asking ourselves if we have soul.whatever the answer,we should think that "energy cannot be made or be destroyed."our soul is pure anergy.so where will be our soul going after we die?where?including the so called 144,000? Were very close destroying our planet and nature is telling us "ITS PAYBACK TIME" Human is the most dangerous creatures in this planet. They are in fact the first and the last to exploit this once a paradise until this stupid and uncontrollable progress called industrial revolution created all the unknown moral and physical disease.
Those al queda terrorist may be right in bringing us back to the dark ages and destroy all this industrial policies of selfish industrial nations. Give them a weapon of mass destruction until nothing is left but an earthly paradise without the Human who aspires for industrial progress. Islam, Jews and Christians are the scum of the earth. They fool billions of people in believing in their monotheistic god that never exist. Their leaders, the Imam, Pope and pastors are the biggest liars. Lets go back to the age of simplicity, progress can be done without exploiting the planet too much. Lets make a proper use of science and technology in earth friendly way. Lets stop fooling ourselves in believing a Diety or God. Lets go back to an earthly world but progressive. AlphaOmega: We both agree on the harm done by gods and religions. However, I disagree with you about giving WMD to Al Qaeda. I hope you're just kidding.
The earth has never been a paradise. 99% of living species has already become extinct since life evolved in this planet. Humans evolved into intelligent beings, used their brains to invent tools, and progressed to build complex machines. Industrialization is an unavoidable byproduct of this human progress. One day, our own species will cease to exist - when the sun has used up all its energy - just like billions of other dead stars in the universe. No god can prevent that. Not Zeus, Allah, Jehovah, Mithra, Osiris or Jesus. I used to believe in evolution but now not anymore. Although mutation do occur, it's always regressive not progressive. With the advances of the sciences, it's now clear life never happened by chance. Actually the rule in this earth is variety, more aptly called biodiversity. If all forms of energy came from God, why should I be afraid if the sun runs out of hydrogen? God will provide at the right time. He may give us more earths if needed. If matter & energy are neither created nor destroyed, it's more fitting for the earth to sustain life forever which is unique in comparison to other celestial bodies that runs out of energy or matter. The more analytical people learn the sciences, the more they'll realize life never existed by chance.
No, you never believed in evolution, it's just a nice way of starting your mindless screed. Obviously, you do not have a clear understanding of the First Law of Thermodynamics, or maybe you meant the Second Law of Thermodynamics. You just know it by the way creationists explained it to you. You are one of the evolution deniers. No evolutionists will say that life happened by chance, this is another creationist ploy. Your hope that your god will provide you with more earths is very childish. Billions of stars have lived and died without any of these gods in history. I am surprised that you did not claim that the universe is only 6,000 years old!
Its a good start anonymous!Human can evolve the way we want with our present technology(Genetics) but remember this,we can only do that with matter and not eith energy.we cannot genetically modify energy.
We dont need other being to tell us to be more compassionate to others and to nature. In my own opinion,we gather good collective memory for our true self to carry all along.I think thats is our purpose in every life we live. I dont think destroying this planet and doing bad things to fellow being is a good memory our concious being should carry all along. Peace! here we go again talking about bible, propecy, salvacion etc..etc..pleaseeee to all leaders of religions founded for business stop fooling some innocent people for sake of your interest..There's a lot of instances that some religion sects try to brain wash me and telling there's the truth and way to God..common all sects religion everyone of you saying that, MGA AMBISYOSO.
Most religious fanatics interpret the Genesis account that only lasted for six literal days, failing to note that to God a day is not 24 hours. To God a day is a thousand year, a million or even more of which Moses, the scriber accurately wrote it based on what he saw in a dream or apparition the alternate resurgence of light and darkness in relation to his perspective stand on the surface of the earth. That primordial alternate resurgence of light and darkness cannot be 24hrs since atmospheric gases at that time of the slowly cooling earth is so thick in blocking lights from the outside. They also failed to note that Moses started the narration of the so called creative days with the earth already created which means the mentioned "creation" pertains to the gradual appearance of LIVING ORGANISMS, not the physical earth itself. Thus literal knowledge by some without wisdom has left unnoticed "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth". Without a creator, how will science explain the pre-Big Bang era? It's apparent there was a beginning that gave birth to time and space. It's a lie if somebody says there's no time nor space because there's no beginning. The CERN-LHC large hadron collider affirms it by mimicking the beginning (but maybe so also for a newer energy source away from the OPEC cartel) and numerous orbiting telescopes and probes confirms the ever expanding universe. How come energy or matter just existed in an empty universe? No sense of knowing the percentile probability of a collision if we don't know what was in existence before. Is not by chance to call that life existed on earth without an outside hand? 'Till this advanced age and gadgetry no specie of any kind has a solid evidence of an evolutionary pathway. More so with an evolutionary link which is always missing. Even the recently known organisms of the abyss, sulfur-devouring bacterias, mitochondria, stem cells point to an order and intelligent design. Trillions and trillions of supernovas might die, we are confidently away from their harm and their used up energies recycled by black holes giving way to newborn stars. It's really hard to discern if we truly lack the needed knowledge and evidence (Mayweather style) because even the right knowledge is not foolproof if it lacks wisdom. True faith is never a business, it's a mandate from God but sadly it's misinterpreted. Really I'm not fond talking about salvation since the first commandment is more than enough to have it. I remember I happened to learned first the theoretical and applied sciences before the spiritual ones. For more, see the links below.

The six days of creation are not 24-hour days. You'll have a problem with young earth creationists (YECs), like Ken Ham. I think these are one of the 'religious fanatics' you are referring to. Because nobody knows what happened before the Big Bang, it has to be a 'creator' (don't be shy, say it, it's 'god'). This is called God of the Gaps. If it cannot be explained, then it is because of god. When thunder and lightning were mysteries to ancient people, they attributed them to thunder and lightning gods. Those gods died when science explained how they happen. Oh, and of course, those dinosaur fossils? They were planted by (you guessed it!), Satan, our perennial scapegoat.
I see that you are a Jehovah's Witness based on the links that you sent. I'm sure that your Catholic and evangelical Christian brothers are squirming right now, because to them you are a 'cult.' - and you may not like it, a 'religious fanatic.' Don't worry, they consider Mormons and Iglesia ni Kristo cults too! Moses never wrote the Pentateuch by the way. Do your own research on that and don't rely on what (I tell you or..) your JW leadership tells you. Be a critical thinker, question everything including your own faith. I see also that you are parroting the evangelical Christians' Intelligent Design idea. Be original, come up with something new. ID is creationism plain and simple. Stop it, it is not science. It is faith, which I am sure you have a lot. Peace! Sun is the God of this planet Earth with out the Sun this planet Earth can not sustain life of itself.
Sun is a ball of fire,it has the power to give life or kill lives. Imagine with out God or with out Sun,what this planet Earth would be like? Sun is nothing but a star of fire, burning almost infinitely.....It does sustain life ang can destroy it. But to refer it as a GOD is insanity....You just might have been born a too late to have this kind of faith...But its yours.. so suit yourself!
"sun is nothing but a star of fire"imagine if sun don´t give lights no more, where this planet earth will get its needed energy to keep every inhabitants stay alive?
planet Earth consist of different kinds of elements but it has no much to what planet Sun has when it comes to power.Planet Mercury becomes a charcoal planet for being so close to the Sun,but what more if there is no Sun exist at all, would you still exist? i strongly believed the secret power that God posses was in the Sun,His power to creates and destroy are His works...see it yourself,Sun has power to give each creatures chance to live but He has also power to kill them and burn them with His scorching heat. therefore, with out the Sun we won´t even exist,is like with out God,we were not created. just imagine a year of living with out sunlight nor moonlight, will the inhabitants of this planet earth stay alive? Be it known that what you knew is different from what you beleived. It's a different concept. There are some stuff that you had to know before you belive. Your faith in God is..... you believe in him...period. You don't have to know him.
But Sun is God?????Give me a break. You may know some stuff about the sun. You believe some stuff about God. You cannot collaborate both as one...you need to check with psychiatrist dude! I got something for you...If you believe so much that Sun is God.... Araw-araw kang mag bilad, mag didipa ka sa kalsada ng hubad...Sambahin mo ang Araw....see waht other people will think of you... "Sun is nothing but a ball of fire".... what i meant to say was, it's just a matter, gas, helium, fire..whatever that thing is...nothing spiritual....
I did not deny the factor of Sun in our very exixtence. Like I've said, it sustains life. You make it sound like sunlight is everything.... Straighten up your facts before reacting on my comment....baka wala kang maibuga pag nag debate tayo..... on the end of this world, the Sun and the Moon would not give light no more, that is the end of this world, lucky are those going to be saves because they will all live in heaven while unlucky bad creatures will suffer and die in hell.
You are still repeating the Bible assertion that the Moon gives out light. It doesn't. There is no heaven and no hell, no gods and devils, nor demons and angels. Go on with your wishful thinking if it makes you feel good.
This is a very nice and inspiring article. Thanks for writing such post.
