I've been up to a lot lately, but two things in particular excite me profoundly; this blog, and the new tech segment I'm doing for News on Q on QTV Channel 11.
As a long-time producer of independent content for the Internet (blog/podcasts) it is a dream come true to have mainstream media as a platform. I get to do the same things but have a much wider reach. Having said that, I look forward to years of creative tech writing on this blog. But before I dive in, I thought a little introduction would be appropriate. So allow me to crank back my history button all the way back to my first baby steps online. Humble Beginnings I launched my first website all the way back in July of 1998. Hosted on the Geocities' Cyber Park, it was like any other "home page" of the day with some writing, photos, a calendar, and other personals. The site moved around a bit in the years that followed until I settled into my own domain in 2001. I started off as a web designer. Learning HTML and CSS on my own from books, dissecting other people's source code, online forums, and through hours and hours of practice. Was into graphic design too. Jakob Nielsen got me into web usability, and I gravitated towards designs that were clean, crisp, uncluttered, and user-friendly. Blogging/Web Writing In 2001, I read the book, Taking Your Talent to the Web and was inspired to do just that. MichaelJosh.com became a repository of my ideas, poetry, and articles. I also began journaling. At that time the blog concept was relatively new. I didn't know it then, but according to this listing I was one of the first few documented bloggers in the country. There were very few local online communities back then, and the net circles that I maintained were all foreign. Podcasting/Videocasting In late 2004, shortly after switching over to a Mac (thanks to the Halo Effect) I began to fill my iPod with this new thing called podcasts - audio programs distributed via RSS feeds. I especially loved Sound Seeing Tours done by Pod Father Adam Curry and wanted to do some of my own. With my background in broadcast, I decided to follow suit coming up with the Michael Josh Show on March 21, 2005, which along with my sister and a friend was recorded around my PowerBook using the laptop's internal microphone. It was the second home grown podcast coming out of the Philippines during that time, according to the History of Pinoy Podcasts. I was so crazy about this new trend and saw a lot of potential in it that I soon began giving a few lectures here and there to try to promote podcasting locally – but I felt it was not yet time. Our audience was basically composed of Pinoys living abroad and I was astounded by how many were interested in tuning into a couple of guys talking about random things. And yes I did get to do a couple of sound seeing tours, my favorite is a 30-minute walkthrough of the Muse de Louvre during a trip to Paris. The next logical step for me was to do a video podcast. This however was unchartered territory and very few had gone before, but we bit the bullet. What started off as a joke inside the car grew into a great concept. Two of my siblings and I produced the first video podcast in Asia - "HIT Weekly" which stands for Hot Interesting Topics. Because there were only 15 of us in the whole world at that time it was easy to promote the show and get the numbers we desired. During our first month we had about a thousand people subscribe to our feed and were struggling to keep up with the bandwidth requirements. Not long after this we were featured on CommandN - a video podcast out of Canada. The mention pushed us over our bandwidth allotment and pulled our site down for almost a week. Many people wanted to help pay for costs but there were no facilities to accept cash donations at that time. PayPal Philippines was a non-entity back then. When we got back online, we had been selected as a featured video podcast on the iTunes Music Store. Local press started noticing too a couple of magazine mentions followed. But alas it wasn't easy to produce a show with limited time on a limited budget especially if you also had to write, shoot, host, and edit all at the same time. Because of this we decided to put the show on an indefinite hiatus until further notice. Slowing Down I don't know about you but I often find that there's too much going on in the world around me and not being able to catch up frustrates me immensely. Admittedly, I’ve slowed down a bit, I've got a full time job and a ministry to think off first, but I still remain a true blue techie. I still spend most of my time online, blow away most of my money on gadgets, and have integrated technology even into seemingly "non-tech" activities like reading and running. The other week I sat in at the local iBlog Summit and was thrilled to see how the local community has flourished. You can no longer count Filipino bloggers and podcasters. They are just too many (in a good way). Everyone also seems to be on Twitter these days too (which is way cool). Funny how I blazed the trail of a few paths but was never around when the highways were in place. I regret never getting around to cultivate any relationships locally, except for my connections with the Philippine Macintosh User Group. Recently my friend Ederic Eder has been my guide to the local tech scene introducing me to key players - and setting me up as the tech guy of News On Q. New Beginnings But it's never too late to start. Which is in a way why I'm glad to be doing this blog. I can't wait to make new acquaintances from among all of you as well as to get to know the sights and sounds of this thriving tech community. There are several reasons why I want these two projects to do well. First is because I live and breathe tech so much so that I want to be able to plant the seeds of interest in as much of you as possible. Secondly, I want to be able to bridge the divide between techies and technophobes with posts that are both informative and easy to to understand. Without alienating the guys who know pretty much "everything" already. And finally I want to interact with you, I want to create discussions on issues and talk about the latest trends. I want to learn from you knowing that you have a lot to bring to the table, so much more than we probably give ourselves credit for. So dive in with me. Together let's take the plunge. Trackbacks

Isa pa food crisis was planned to take place to reduce population,to makes the WW3 happened to be the caused of food riots, financial breakdown and with the help of climate change 98% of world populations goinG to die, that is only predictions of french political analysis but it could happened. Josh job is something you should be thankful,he doesn´t produce food for the tables but he does help to keep us informed of the presents situation, with out them the reporters, the artist all the said people who works for media or film industry will not makes a perfect presentations of what they need to show. So,please try to appreciates his works at least he is a great help not a burden for the gov´t or society. Let the poor blames themselves not the people who has nothing to do with it.Isa pa iyon ang trabahong gusto nya, ikaw anuman trabahong gusto mo walang pipigil sayo basta wala ka naman naaagrabyado di ba? 20.1 pinay on 2008-05-17 23:20 (Reply)

Those people who don't have any idea about techonogies must better shut up. Come to think of it. Yes. Im speaking to Tinggay and Pinay. nice job Joshua! Keep up the good work. And to the admin. before posting comments like Tinggay and Pinay, can you please approve it first? Everybodys opinion is open, but it's an insult to the writer to receive comments such as these. Hi quote/unquote,i know it won´t make any sense to you,as you are senseless(no brain)
Zzzzzz, You just want to let the people know you are educated person but you forget you are going to the same grave those uneducated people you mentioned, don´t forget,"gaano man kataas ng iyong lipad ay sa lupa ka pa rin babagsak". I respect Josh for sharing his knowledge and the nature of his work,i didn´t insult him nor write anything bad, perhaps i even defend his rights to have his blog articles POSTED HERE as it is useful for those people benefits on his choosen profession...and we are one of those enjoyed the fruits of his hardworks, everytime we watch the news,or the shows,we know with out them(high-tech technicians)WE CAN NOT WACTH A GOOD QUALITY SHOW. We should be proud of him as one blessing for the country. "pinay on 2008-05-18 21:06 (Reply)
Hi quote/unquote,i know it won´t make any sense to you,as you are senseless(no brain)" look who's talking! you spilled your beans here of what you were and where you came from, blogging with "a blag" as in loud but empty thud and now flaunting how life has been good since hooking up with a, ahh forget it, .... don't you get it girl? people here notices your senselessness and direction-less statements, you even resort to story telling which is completely irrelevant to the subject. you won't be hearing from me again, promise You know exactly about me and that is something you should be thankful,at least i am not a plastic person...like some of the bloggers here does.
Also don´t tried to put down myself just because you have a better status of living than myself,i know you don´t need to experienced the life i´d been through just to visit otherside of the world. You are rich, well educated and have a chance to go farther than where you are now,but if you put down somebody just because you are more better person than them, what goodness does it brought to you?It satisfied your ego but it doesn´t makes others happy. I didn´t asked you to keep in touch with me,or spent your time reading my blogs,if my grammar didn´t passed the standard you looking for, then keep in touch with your fellow aristocrats people. Remember you are a college graduates while Erap just a school drop out and you expect him to speak like a graduates of Bachelor degree. Hi Pinay, you can not really please everyone. Maybe for some your comments are senseless but for some it's substantial (regardless of the grammar). Don't let negative reactions from others stop you from expressing yourself. Speak your mind, but always be reminded of your limits.
It's alright to commit mistakes, nobody's perfect. We're not here to comment on somebody else grammar. In fact, you should be given credit for defending Josh from the negative comments of tinggay. It shows the other side of you, the kindhearted Pinay you are...

Hello Darlene,Thanks for understanding my grammar.I knew,i can not please everyone, but i´d tried to let them know about my reactions on their negatives remarks about my opinions/comments or ideas,it is healthy to voice out your ideas as long as you didn´t over run to somebody else feeling or reputation.I have no knowledge about what are these techies does, for even to fix a computer if it no more works,i have to depend on computer technicians to do that task.
I am just an ordinary woman, blessed enoughed to learnt the simple abc´s of english, yes i am still interested to learn more but now,i just have too much chores to do. It is good enough that i am a good wife(according to my hubby)and good mother(as my children say)and let those techies do their jobs for us. I have a niece lookslike Josh, that is why his success makes me happy as well even i am not his relatives. That is how i appreciates hardworks.

In this blog it is not about spelling and grammar but to express your thoughts and opinion freely with a lot of sense and a little bit of humor to make the discussion lively. To the new comer respect our veteran friend bloggers who has more than one aka in this blog. Sometimes I could detect regulars other aka by their style of writings.
Hi Pinay. Apologies that I have tagged your name. The person I really mad at is Tinggay. Sorry for including you in the subject. Nywz, just speak tagalog freely dahil puro pinoy din naman nagbabasa nito.
Hope this discussions about this ends now, and lets continue to share all our ideas about the topic. I forgave you for that little mistakes, but i hope you don´t mind i used english languages for posting in this fully english words blog.I want to practice more on using english words, the only way to help me make it perfect.
We can use tagalog or taglish on Mr.Abet blog as it mainly contains tagalog writings as primary.I also need to learn more about deutsch, french, spanish and italians as it is the common languages used around europe and the only ways to learn other languages is to buy dictionary of english/french,english/deutsch etc. It is english that help us learn other languages as there is no tagalog/french,tagalog/deutsch,tagalog/italian etc. We should thank UK for giving us the authority to learn their languages if not we could be not understand other languages as fast as we can. Hi Josh,
you remind me of the book i read recently, Accidental Empires. It's all about how computers and computer nerds evolved from late 60's to present. How Microsoft came to be what is now. How Bill Gates started and was actually selling something that was flawed even during its presentation. You are lucky you know who are the "key players" but those guys who evolutionized what computers are today didn't even know who had the best idea and were, in a way, actually working together. WRONG COUNTRY, WRONG BLOG, SPRATLY ISLAND IS N0T FOR SALE, UNDERSTAND.
Peps,
i agree with you. translate ko para sa yo, sayang lang aral ko ng mandarin,;-) " you are selling imitation or fake items" "go and sell it in another place" nice day to you shinygemstone here's for you:
You are the one who spread all those imitations. Better be called the "Master of 1st Class" IMITATIONS (that includes DVD Piracy). My condolences to your country, but I cant imagine you have time to discuss your topic here. Poor Siopao! miki bihon,
Sorry shinygematone. Wrong response. Should go to Wholesale etc. Sorry again.
Thanks!

Miki,
'tol, no problem....a smiley would suffice, no need to say sorry, dami kasi dito nag aaway e, lets make it different........ Whatever catastrophe or disaster tookplace in other countries,we should not blames them for it,also what happened to them could happened to our very own country...it is a way of chinese to sell anything they could to makes money at,anything from shit to gold they will sold it worldwide to help their economy booms...even India also using that technique to bring more incomes to their over populated country.
India could be the next to emerge as asians tiger after chinese,India is now the investor favorites haven for a cheap labor. Can not you see Made in Bangladesh or India are also known worldwide, while Made in Philippines continue to perish. Our countries only resources is its manpower,if our OFW stop sending money home,i don´t think Philippines could ever afford to import fossil oil...when even rice has to be imported from other countries. If our gov´t officials continue to depends on remittances not focusing in the capacity to stand to itself to feed itself,we filipinos will be the poorest of all poor in the part of asia. Im surrounded by tekkies at home, of course the younger ones, but i am still illiterate to cybertechnos. At my age Im still a playstation 4 gamer, i mean 3, its a freakin', awesome graphic dude. Talk about blueray hidef out of this world, like, like u r in the real holo if u know what i mean....Sorry for sounding like a teen. Wooohooo...you gotta PLUNGE yourself into the tube and burn baby burn.
pinay's reaction to attacks against her and all her writings are more interesting to read than the blog itself! LOL
OK!!!! I didn't expect to read that. Now that's a splash.
Kudos on the new blog. SURELY! she sounds like melanie marquez. And an empty can, maingay pero walang laman!
