Chiz Escudero answers top 10 questions in new web show Examine

Posted on 09 October 2009 by GMANEWS.tv

In the pilot webisode of Examine, one of the pioneering web shows launched by GMANews.TV for Eleksyon 2010, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero answered the top ten questions of Filipino web users from all over the world.

For an hour, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero answered tough questions that ranged from his political ambitions and platforms, to his “Chizzyness.” – GMANews.TV

Netizens sent almost a hundred questions through different platforms including e-mail, short messaging service (SMS) or text messaging, and even social media like Facebook and Twitter. The questions covered a wide range of topics – from the Senator’s favorite drink to his views on land reform and the pending reproductive health bill in Congress.

Gang Badoy, the founder of RockEd Philippines, a non-governmental organization advocating alternative education and youth empowerment, asked the top ten questions which were chosen by the GMANews.TV editorial team.

Escudero, who is perceived to be one of the major contenders for next year’s presidential race, gamely bantered with Badoy as she followed up some of the questions posted by GMANews.TV fans.

When web user Jan Carlo Punongbayan of Quezon City asked Escudero how he plans to finance his campaign and recoup his expenses, Badoy commented, “they always ask that question,” to which Escudero jokingly replied, “Actually ang tinatanong nila yung tingin lang nilang walang pera. Yung mayaman ‘di nila tinatanong.” (Actually, they only ask those whom they think don’t have money. The don’t ask the rich ones.)

On a more serious note, Escudero said he plans to keep within his means. He added: “I’m of the firm belief in Kevin Costner’s words in the Field of Dreams, ‘If you build it, they will come.’”

A Facebook user, Seph Holandes from Fairview, Quezon City cheekily asked, “Bakit po robotic ang manner of speaking ninyo? Aminin natin. We all want to know.” (Why is your manner of speaking robotic? Let’s admit it. We all want to know.)

Escudero answered, “Kasi natuto akong i-distansiya ang emosyon ko sa ano mang ginagawang trabaho … kung kaya kong baguhin ‘yun (ang aking pananalita), binago ko kahapon pa.” (Because I’ve learned to distance myself from any task I’m working on … if I could change the way I talk, I would have changed it yesterday.)

He also shared his thoughts on key issues such as land reform, reproductive health, and corruption and fielded questions about his track record as a Congressman and Senator.

Examine with Senator Chiz Escudero is now live at Your Vox, the web election primer of GMANews.TV. To view the full episode, click here.

Sen. Escudero was also featured in Exchange, the first and only live chat forum in the Philippines for election candidates last September 10. To view video excerpts from the chat, click here.

This web show is a wonderful idea! I hope it paves the way for the country to start a presidential debate with a nationwide broadcast. The problem is that it would be difficult accomodating more than 5 presidentiables in one show since we do have at least that number of candidates during the presidential election.

  10. Natividad Avila Jusay Says:

I believe chiz has the capability of being a good president. He may not have the money, machinery, and party like other aspirants. Hopefully, people will see the honesty and integrity in the man and vote for him.

Lets face it we will never have a leader that we seek unless we do not believe that somebody is worthy and capable of our trust to carry the long time aspiration and hope of this country.

    Hello my countrymen,

First time in our country to have the highest number of candidates running for President. First time to have an automated computerized election, and hopefully our first time to have clean honest counting of votes.

Calling the attention of all filipino voters, not to forget the qualifying 3M’s in choosing the most qualified one of candidates (1) MakaDiyos (GOD fearing) (2) MakaTao (Pro People)

    (3) MaKatarungan (Righteous and Just)

We have been deprived of clean honest election, we must see to it that this is now the real clean honest election. We must have a good government officials to run execute a good governance so to have a good government. May pagasa pang natitira, buhayin natin ang pagasang para sa ating inang Bayan… MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!!!

    Ang inyo pong lingkod,

    Kabayang Juanito Memoracion Jr.

    P.S.
I believe if all voters will sincerely select the candidates in good
faith applying qualifying 3M’s as I mentioned above then the candidate for president to win will be no other than Bro. Eddie Villanueva.
