Thursday, August 26. 2010Our warped martial culture
We now know the fatal and tragic consequences of blindly arming career goons and gorillas who, inept and unable to employ reason or rationality, think with their guns and gonads.
Taking hostages at the point of a gun in place of a microphone and eventually peppering innocents with bullet holes will not be the last we will see of this. Unfortunately, so will continue equally inane and violent resolutions. The recent tragedy is simply just another in a series of absurd episodes as we careen down the path of mind-numbing violence. Behind it, we fear, is our terribly warped martial culture, insidiously permeating from the benign and spreading openly to the most malignant. The helipad beside the tennis court of a plush resort barely an hour from the metropolis had nothing worth stealing. Despite being nestled among well-kept walkways and gardens a quarter of a mile from the road, the deserted court was patrolled by a diminutive armed guard carrying a shotgun. Alarmed albeit amused, the prospective investors ferried by the helicopter were looking at the Philippines as a possible manufacturing hub for computer peripherals. But peace and order must be elusive. What could possibly justify deadly ordnance in an empty tennis court? The same holds for fast-food joints, bookstores and daycare centers inside malls. In a posh residential enclave in the heart of the city, one that hosts one of the best and most exclusive schools operated by the religious, an army of pistol-toting guards brandish deadly armaments like gunslingers. Daily, they crudely shout, yell and whistle at parents, drivers and nannies who drop off and pick up children along the school’s fortress-high walls. Their priorities are warped. Save for a handful, the army of guards seems more concerned that cars speed away from momentary congestion than they are with the children’s safety. In grunt-fashion they force children to squeeze dangerously between towering SUV’s as they press the traffic to quickly move on. Many guards are former policemen with minimum education. Some are academy rejects. Worse, the caliber of their deadly ordnance surpasses cumulative IQs as the martial gene is predominant. To this day, fetchers remember when one of them was violently run over by a vehicle apparently allowed by fawning guards to speed in the opposite direction because the truck was part of a politician’s entourage. While the blood on the curb was quickly washed off, for the young and impressionable minds that witnessed the incident, the memory stains a bit longer. Obviously there is a disconnect between the values nurtured inside the school’s walls and those outside representing a martial culture that distorts our society. Simply ask how many toddlers would rather become policemen than doctors, engineers, lawyers or teachers. Ask why and invariably the gun becomes a focal point. It does not take grainy cell phone video footage replayed on national TV to realize how warped and decayed our society has become. Indeed, we are nauseated by the images of a man treated as far less human, twitching in pain, screaming his last cries before death might mercifully set in to end the brutality inflicted by those, nurtured first and then virtually charged by our tax pesos. We are nauseated not by the images, but by the realization that this is what we’ve tolerated for far too long. This is what happens before those decaying bodies turn up in dumpsites and along the water’s edge with signboards tied around their necks, extremities cut off and torsos pockmarked with cigarette burns and bullet holes. It is nothing new. There lies the problem. The word “salvage” we’ve coined for such acts is by now colloquial, commonplace and cliché – long integrated into our crass crudity that diminishes the criminality behind the act but not less than the societal rot we all wallow in. The etymology is from the Latin salus that means welfare or safety. When used as an adjective, the word turns into salvus. That adjective, when combined with a noun such as legis or law turns into salva lege meaning “without violating the law”. It is interesting to see how far we’ve fallen from our Roman bases in democracy and law. We now know that those who inflicted the torture and possibly the death of the man in the footage were entrusted, armed and authorized to protect society and install justice as we would have it. We call them law enforcers and we know them by different names and under different degrees - from barangay tanods or village guardians, to security guards and night watchmen, to the military and the police. These are the men who constitute that part of our society we’ve purposely carved out from society’s underside, empowered, entitled, armed and called martial. Trackbacks

The worst from the bloodbath of teh hostage crisis was shown by CNN. A smiling abnormal president of teh country smiling during the interview after the massacre of tourists. Penay should have locked himself in a room and smiled and laughed herself to tears. Smiling in ´front of the cameras in that interview was an insult not only to the people with common sense but to Hong Kong and Chinese people in particular. Next time please use your brain and consult first your sisters before you go in front of teh cameras.
Sadly, innocent heads rolled during the tragedy. Rsponsible (irresponsible if you wish) heads will roll after it. But problems will remain. People will kill and get killed. People will rob and get robbed, get rich quick at the misery of others.
We need to accept the truth that the problem lies not in the secular side of our life but in the spiritual side. When the spiritual side is healthy, the secular side follows. Didn't Christ Jesus said that "there is more happiness in giving"? Wouldn't this world a better and safer place if by and large citizens give more than take? When public servants do the same? When can we attend the Sunday service and remain loving, merciful, forgiving and giving the rest of the week? Or has our religion become just formalities bringing no values and benefits to our life? Or have we stopped believing that "faith moves mountains"? Had our Christian faith died together with the neglect of God's Word? Faith will move mountain-like obstacles. Hope will keep us through. Love never fails. Please stop the preaching. Organized religion doesn't have a good track record when it comes to violence. Christianity gave us the Inquisition, the Crusades, the conquest of the 'uncivilized' countries of the world, slavery, and lately, pedophile priests raping children. Islam, of course, has their share of crime and violence.
Can't you type properly? Your remarks are full of typo error.

police are expert only in torture. the swat is not armed with special weapons and definitely no tactics. pls bring them back to academy for further training.
I agree... the assault operatives is obviously not prepared for such situation. However someone from the Phil Navy told me that the assault team at that incident was NOT the Phil SWAT team. He also added in this kind of situation, nag uunahan raw yung mga iba't ibang PNP units mag pa "Pogi-points". Unfortunately, nag back fire yung papogi nila sa media... tsk tsk tsk tsk... If this is true, I believe malaking pagkakamali ng tactical office in-charge sa operation nito, dapat nag pa dispatch order sya for the REAL trained SWAT team and let them take over the operations.
It's disgusting that some politician in Congress are politicizing this tragedy. If they will blame the present administration, much should be blamed also to the past one because these policemen should have been trained in dealing with this situation. Obviously not. Noticeably also is the lack of equipments which should been provided by the past administration. No wonder why this country is not moving forward. We have this kind politician,
It's ABNoy's Call now... Don't blame it to the past administration. As a President, He has the power to avoid the death of the tourists. Stop hugging the balls of ABnoy. Election is over. It's time to prove that he deserves the votes of the people.
BWAAAAA......HA HA HA HA HA....SALAMAT WHITEKNIGHT....ISA KANG TAGA PAGTANGGUL KO SA MGA KUMAKALABAN SA AKIN....HA HA HA HA SIGE IPAGPATULOY MO ANG ATING PAGIGING DEMONYO SA MUNDO. MASARAP MAGING DEMONYO MARAMING NAGAGAWA. SI ABNOY ANG BATIKUSIN NINYO SA NAGANAP NA HOSTAGE. BWAAAA....HA HA HA....AKO SI GLORIA DEMONYO ARROYO....MAKAPANGYARIHAN SA LAHAT.......HA HA HA HA HA......
Is Noynoy a God to prevent the every tourists from dying? And whoever is in charge can't say they can. It wasnt even the Noynoys' call as I remembered it. It was Magtibay who wanted the assault (It was in the news), after they heard that the bus driver who escaped shouted "patay na lahat". President need not to come to every hostages' aid that's why there are policemen (It goes through the heirarchy of ranks) -- to do their job and do it "well".
I dont think you know what your talking about,, Noy Doesnt have the answer for everything plus he is not a Police or military personnel plus if he will be the one to handle the negotiation well its better if also you let Pnoy do your laundry lunch and even wash your ass. Thats why he have his cabinet and police officials to do their job. He's a president and not superman or Captain barbel who can solve everything.
Did you ever wonder why thee are only two people in your blog here?
Cause, these two people were the only ones who could have the "patience" to actually read what your saying here. But, that doesn't mean they actually understand the words you are using. Gmanews were probably too busy to read or proofread your article here, hence, the continues barrage of high sounding words all over the place. There's no need to impress anyone here by using a lot of words that they have to look for the meaning in the dictionary. Nothing personal buddy, just commenting and exercising my right under the freedom of expression. Thank you very much sir. Speak for yourself. Dean has always impressed me let alone educated in a lot of his blogs. He is just very entertaining to read and what he is saying is true. Time to look at ourselves in the mirror and realize that we all have allowed this to prosper. Our police ranks should all be required to take ethics, training to handle all sorts of critical situations such as bombing, hostage taking, even national disaster. Time to remove hotheads from the police service. The church should castigate its flock to remind them that violence in the homes, in the society are not humane acts and children should start learning that bullying is not a good start/can lead to violence later on. Keep on writing Dean, we need to rise up to your level.
the comment was directed to dean's style of writing and not necessarily about his ideas and or opinions, as expected, not only that you are the most opinionated blogger here, but also, the one who just don't understand what you are reading.
you must be a member of the western police district, or are you? You are not the only one entitled to voicing your opinion and you are the one not understanding the written word at all. I like his style of writing and also his opinions. Form and function get it?
yes your right...I have a hard time reading and understanding the message of DEAN. I think the goal of writing is that the readers understood and get clearly what you are trying to say. The beauty of an article is not of the alienatic words you use but the content and the message you are presenting to people of all ages.
Mas okay na kayang unawain at madaling kunin ang punto:) i agree with you totally. dean's writing is so highfaluting. its like he converts simple words with all the most complicated synonyms in the thesaurus. who are you trying to impress mr. delapaz?
i disagree. we have a relatively non-violent culture. for example, manila, which has a population of roughly 10 million, has relatively few violent crimes, compared to other cities of its density in other countries. filipinos tend to be non-confrontational, which in the long run, makes us rather weak and easy to manipulate. so what you see as a culture of violence, i see as a really small minority of bullies who give a bad name to the majority.
the police's incapacity to protect the people excerbates the problem. we've seen how badly the hostage situation was handled. there was no need for things to end as violently as it did if better decisions were made by the law enforcers. you speak of armed security on helipads and "posh residential enclaves." these places are exceptions rather than the rule. how many filipinos use helipads or live in upper-class subdivisions? and i bet the armed security is employed by some corrupt politician or businessman, who probably deserve to live in fear in the first place. 70% of crime victims don't bother to report it to the authorities due to the fact that our Foolish patola's will ask the victim to pay upfront for the logistical expenses in pursuing their case and to arrest the perpetrator/s at hand.
i see your point, but i was referring to violent crimes, such as homicide. more often than not, they are reported to the police.
i also doubt that manila is the only populous city where crimes are under-reported, or where the police fudges its crime stats. sao paulo and mexico city probably have us beat in police corruption, and yet their reported violent crimes are over the roof. In the first place, if you say the Filipino are stupid then Honky are even
more stupid It is a known fact that Philippines is one of the most corrupt, dangerous and filty countries in World. Yet these stupid Honky chose to visit the Philippines - they must be looking for cheap sex, not gambling as they can get it in Macau these tourists are stupid and looking for cheap sex? are you nuts? they were touring fort bonifacio with their CHILDREN. idiot.
fuck you tatai you're just a beggar who do you think you are?! go home buy some food for your family a food that came in the garbage!!!!!!
the blame game always follows after every crisis or mishaps
but the point was there has been so many instances that an abductor-kidnapper-hostage taker manage to inflict damages to civilians & foreigners alike to the effect that govt give in to their demands why cant we apply a no negotiations policy to those culprit especially when govt authority-laws-policy were questioned & at stake? kahit po kasi may mamatay or wala ay sisihin man nila ang gobyerno dahil sa nangyari diba? huag man magpakita ng kahinaan ang gobyerno dahil sasamantalahin ang bansa ng mga MILF NPA sa nakita nilang ganyan kaliit na hostage lang panu man kaya kung hostage nila ang constitution????
Instead, tayo ay makiramay, magdasal, and let them rest and peace...... "Pray peacefully and have faith on God" Thats the wrong thing with Filipinos...you cant get everything you wish thru prayers..you have to work hard for it too and pray. Prayers alone is not sufficient.
Well,do I need to explain everything?
Everyone knows action speaks louder.... Please figure it out what's move on means.....again we have to have faith in God no matter what......
The father of Mendoza said his son went to Manila to return his service firearms. He was already suspended or terminated for more than a year and yet he still has his armalite and 45 pistol with him. What a lousy Foolish Force talaga. nakakasuka ang PNP. Talagang sa kotong lagn at sa pagpapayaman kayo magaling.
DILG king Robredo said the failure was to the fact that the police force came from teh arroyo administration. If the operation was a successful one, then the police force was formed by teh aquino administration.
There's nothing to argue here, fact is that the SWAT operation was both a failure and a shame. I join the many Filipinos who call for the chief executive to rid inept and irresponsible persons in government, starting from DILG Secretary Robredo, PNP Chief Versoza, NCRPO Chief, Manila Mayor Lim, MPD Chief Magtibay, Ground Command and Negotiation Team, all of them should be fired, not tomorrow but NOW, or resign in the case of Alfredo Lim.
Mina ng kwarta yang mga position na yan...do you expect them to resign voluntarily. No way.
Sir I am a member of the Armed Forces as an officer. San naman, sa mga pangyayaring ito, do not again let the leadership organization of both the APF and the PNP to reform itself. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. It is so long a time that government always let it happened. wE NEED SIR TO REFORM THESE INSTITUTIONS AND OHTER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES THROUGH EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS. KAILANGAN PO NATIN NG BAGONG BATAS PARA SA BAGONG MILITARY JUSTICE SYSTEM AND PARALLEL ACTIONS SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE PNP. LASTLY, MATAGAL NA PO ITONG PROBLEMA NA PILIT PONG INAAYOS NG MGA INSTITUTIONS NA ITO, PERO WALA PO SILANG MAGAWA. DAPAT PONG IRECALL LAHAT ANG MGA TAUHAN NA ITO NA NAGSISILBING BODYGUARDS KAHIT NA LANG KUNG KANI-KANINO NA PATI SI AIKO MELENDEZ AY MAY BODYGUARD NA PULIS. lABAG PO ITO SA MGA ALITUNTUNIN. POLITICIANS CAN HAVE BODYGURADS PROVIDED THOSE THEY ARE GOING TO EMPLOY ARE NOT IN THE ACTIVE SERVICE. THEY CAN BE MILITARY OR POLICE, BUT RETIRED OR SEPARATED FROM THE ACTIVE SERVICE. PAG HINDI NYO GINAWA ITO, WANG WANG WILL DEFINITELY ON ITS WAY BACK PAGKATAPOS NG TERM NI PNOY: IT IS CERTAIN
Napaka lakas po ng chemistry if you combine a politicians and a bodyguard either a police or a military. it is often turns naghahariharian. ang mga bagay po na ito ang ay mas na aadopt ng pulis at militar kaysa pagiging professional
Napaka lakas po ng chemistry if you combine a politician and a bodyguard either a police or a military. it often turns naghahariharian. ang mga bagay po na ito ang ay mas na aadopt ng pulis at militar kaysa pagiging professional
kung sakali pong makagawa po tayo ng bagong batas na mag-reform sa militar at pulis, sa kabuuan ay magiging maayos po ang mga ito. madali naman po sigurong gawin ito dahil we can always refer to what the americans did to their military justice system. Pwede tayong mangopya na we always do.
The title of this article is interesting. It implies (or even concludes) that the fiasco was "martial" in nature. What was "martial" about the affair? That guns were used.
The article even takes to task the armed guards doing their jobs. Would he say the same about armed guards protecting high value institutions such as banks, government institutions and schools (where innocent children have been victimized by armed kidnapping, drug and other criminal gangs). Would he care to "put his money where his mouth/pen is" and live in high risk areas without protection? Further, was the writer concluding that an violent alternative is never a wise option? But the force-option was actively being avoided by the government, albeitly quite incompetently. Armed action (again, incompetently) was only resorted to when it became apparent to the ground commander that no other option was available. About ten years ago, a fellow named Willie Almeda decided that good words, good intentions and faith were enough to convert the hardest-hearted terrorists. So with some followers, they trooped to the Abu Sayyaf to convince them of the folly of their ways. What happened was that they added to the problems of the AFP, leading to additional casualties on the government side. It is overly simplistic to attribute the fiasco to "martial" mindsights, and risks over-simplifying the issue. I hope that the writer can conduct a deeper analysis, by not just writing from his comfortable location. If, after spending a year or so in Abu Sayyaf, NPA, MILF, crime-ridden zone he still feels the same, then by that time he should reiterate his opinion. And only then will I respect it. in my own personal opinion, Pnoy's character being kind should not be his trademark. He should be tough and use the police and the military to make things right. masyado lang maraming allergic sa pulis at militar. hindi nyo kasi alam kung paano talaga patakbuhin ng maayos ang mga ito. singapore has used effectively these two institutions to have an economic might. Look at them please. forget about martial law, kasi nga hindi tayo marunong kung paano gamitin itong mga ito. Please! Please! Please!
i just learned that another official of the PNP was relieved related to the recent incident. this will not change anything. please, reform your AFP and PNP through NEW LAWS. huwag nyo pong pabayaang mag magaling na naman ang pulis at militar na irereporma nila ang institution nila. tatlong dekada na po and ganun pa din po ang ugali ng pulis at militar dahil pinababayan po natin sila!
Looking at a wider picture, all government agencies not only the PNP and AFP need total systems overhaul and cleansing of the ranks. For the past 3 decades or more, the discipline and sense of nationalism deteriorated, which breeded corruption in all ranks. Operation was professionalized by Marcos and his cronies and perfected by leaders after him. There is no hope in sight for Filipinos to improve, evidenced by Erap garnering 8 million votes during the last elections. 8 million Filipinos entrusting the future of the nation to a convicted to a convicted plunderer is deeply troubling. Noynoy has to build foundations for change, NOW! He has to strengthen public institutions to gain back people's faith in government, take full control and show iron hand in governance.
How could he govern..hes not got a family of his own. The simplest form of governance.
this is but pure personal attack on the president him being a bachelor over the executive post has nothing to do with hostage negotiation mishaps
considering all the former presidents has got nothing to do with hostage crisis delimna how can you isolate Pres Noy among them him being a bachelor president? please think & argue with logic facts & reasons NBi is probing who brought the hostage taker in fort bonifacio. If the NBI is not an idiot agency they should be investigating Mendozas possession of his armalite and pistol even after expulsion from service.
BWAAAA...HA HA HA HA HA HA...HINDI BA NINYO ALAM KAYA NAGALIT SI MENDOZA AT PINAGBABARIL YONG MGA HOSTAGE? DAHIL KAY MECEDITAS GUTAY-GUTAY GUTTIEREZZ...ANG UMBADSWOMAN NA TUMANGI SA HILING NI MENDOZA NA IBALIK YONG PENSIYON NIYA. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHABWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHABWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA KA RIN! Be it known that Communist China is more of a violator on human rights with regards to Tibet (The Dalai Lama), Taiwan, HK & other colonies to name than one single disgruntled RP policeman
WE WANT CHINA TO READ THE FACTS & NOT TO RESORT TO BULLYING ON DEMOCRATIC STATES AFFAIRS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes you were right, yung mga kapatid nya ang nagdedecide ng gagawin ni Penoy.
Based on my own personal opinion, we should not blame the President, the police and the hostage taker for what happen. The best thing for us is to correct our system on how to deal with this kind of situation. Mistakes can be corrected although its quite late already but sacrifices should be done in order for us to open our eyes on the real world we are facing at.
Pointing an accusing finger with each other will not do good but instead create more confusion to the minds of the Filipino people. To all who suffered in this incident, Allah will be with you in your sufferings. Hostage incidents happen because media is proliferating the scenes of hostage taking through TV soap operas, and films. Media in turn sensationalize an issue, a conflagration of news which is actually an isolated incident. Now people who are watching are influenced, and in times of desperation emulate what they saw on T.V.
The cycle goes on and on and on. Soon enough through Philippine media and Philippine entertainment, Filipinos will become a people of murderers and whores. I will ask my children not to watch your brain numbing shows that promote promiscuity and violence. Not unlike your shows, party Pilipinas teaches children to be party goers, promiscuous, slanders, uneducated jejemons. Your soap operas teaches them to be cry babies and social climbers lacking any morals. With special mention for ABS CBN as well. GMA 7 may not be in the same intensity as the other network's promotion of Meeja attitude but GMA 7 and ABS CBN are in the same league. Slanders, warmongers. BWAAAAA.....HA HA HA HA HA HA HA....AKO ANG MAKAPANGYARIHANG DEMONYO SA PELEPENAS.....KAYONG MGA ALAGAD KONG NASA GOBYERNO AT NASA BLOG NA ITO IPAGTANGUL NINYO AKO LABAN KAY ABNOY. BWAAAA...HAK HAK HAK SARAP ANG DEMONYO MARAMING NALULUKO LALO YONG NGA ABNOY....HAK HAK HAK HAK.......MABUHAY SI GLORIA DEMONYO ARRROYO AT ANG ASAWA NIYANG BUWAYA MIKE KANTUTERO ARRROYO......HA HA HA HA HA.....
I do not agree with warped martial culture. The Philippines for decades have grown into a socalled "private army" (goons and wannabe goons),elite society. These goons and wannabe goons private armies molt into the police force, as a result of "pare pare" system and "bata" camaraderie. I remember growing up with private armies for this governor, that congressman, this mayor, security guards for the rich and so forth. A need for these bodyguards came about because of crime, political rivalry, and some just for the heck of it, flaunting power, wealth, and insecurity to amassed material things. In a society struggling to achieve and balance as much needed goals, like our society, sadly police work is still primitive, and crude killings are hideously uncontrolled due to poor police force, loose enforcement and weak legal system. What we need is sophisticated police work and equipment, a legal system that works inspite of the "pare pare" system. And also for the reason that hostage taking and terrorists attacks are true potentials in our midst.
Thank you for the reply. Sadly, you do not get the drift.
According to Coloma from Penoy media communications group, Gloria Arroyo is to be blamed regarding teh torurist bus massacre. It would have been appropriate if he just said that Ferdinand Magellan was to be blamed because he discovered the Philippines; this would have been acceptable than his futile search of alibis and shielding of his abnoy boss.
BWAAAA.....HA HA HA HA HA HA....MGA UNGAS KAYONG LAHAT.....YANG PERANG PAMBILI NG KAGAMITAN NG MGA PULIS AY NOON KO PA KINURAKUT. BILYONG PERA ITO AT NASA AKING SARILING BANKO NA. Hoy, putang ina mo gloria arroyo. Shut up!!! You're fucking shit in this blog. Dahil sa iyo nagkakagulo ang bayan. Shame on you pig. You steal all the money of the filipinos. Fuck you.
u can blame anybody out there
dyan mahusay ang pilipino_blame game! kasalanan rin ng presidente kase binigyan niya pa ng high powered guns ang polisya diba? dapat sana batuta nalang ang panlaban nila sa hostage taker blaming the recent president out of this mess was quite ridiculous knowing that alot more brutal hostage taking over the past presidents have never been noticed .....Gracia & Martin Burnham, japanese korean kidnapping, sipadan-patikul-zamboanga hostage taking of foreigners lahat ng yan isisi nyo ba kay P-Noy? sala kayo sa hulog kung ibunton nyo kay president Noy lahat ng sisi! Pnoy is the head of state and the Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces so he is accountable for everything! This is what youi call command responsibility. Ano ba ang ginawa nya during that 12 hours hostage taking? At ngayon ang mga OFWs ang nagsusuffer because of the katangahan.
The most popular Phil President will never be remembered for his achievements, but rather, will always be subject to strict criticism because of .......mere envy
Coloma of Pnoy media shield and blame factory...idagdag mo na kasalanan ng USA ang tourist bus massacre and bloodbath..mga amerikano naka imbento ng armalite. Parang mas me tunog pakinggan kaysa kay gloria mo isisi.
in the meantime soldiers are frequently being killed, ambushed, mutilated and executed by the NPA. this is the trend right now and i hope it will not continue
The military should just take over the government, abolish Congress and instill real discipline in all our countrymen.

again sir, i am a member of the AFP. Ang mga sundalo at pulis po ay isa sa most effective institution po natin if you just know how to use it. Medyo may trauma lang tayo ng Martial Law, but if Pnoy would only reform it, total overhaul, not just through executive actions but most importantly through legislative actions, napakalaking bagay po ito. If you will not be able to do it, then expect nothing from your government.
IF THEY WANT BODYGUARDS THEY CAN GET THOSE WHO ARE NOT IN THE ACTIVE SERVICE.
if police will be able to say this in our language.
Well said Mr Matibay!naniniwala ako na taga AFP ka nga.Retiradong pulis ang ama ko and I heard those words before.Graduate sya ng criminology during the sixties.malayo ang disiplina ng mga bagong graduates ngayon yet they should posses the same thinking as police work is always a police work.
actually they already have this kind of offices to look and go after erring soldiers or police but their power is limited and they are answerable to their bosses who is the AFP CChief of Staff or the PNP Chief, sa tagalog "hawak sila sa leeg". The right thing to do is for congress to make new laws to strengthen this offices and detached them from thae main organization, but their ranks and qualification will be retained. It is like a parallel office.
Ilang sundalo at pulis na po ang Napatay at pinatay ng mga insurgent sa loob lamang ng isang buwan and we never heard anything from this Government. YOU HAVE CONDEMNED THE CPP-NPA! Huwag nyong pansinin ang mga pangyayaring ito, I do not know where peace talk will bring you, but please say something, anything a comment, your soldiers and policemen are dying in the battlefield, not just through ambushes but execution.
I will agree with Matibay, you cannot achieve economic might if you will not reform the Police and the AFP. Kahit anong development will be nothing if you will not know how to use the police and the military properly.
you need police to protect banks from robbers, you need police to arrest people, even government officials who will steal money from our coffers.
Baka naman you have in your mind Pnoy na magtratrabaho ako yung kaya ko lang at hindi ako si Superman. Resign early if you have that thinking. We need more than Superman para iahon ang kapakanan ng ating bansa.
BE LIKE LEE KUAN YEW. BE LIKE SINGAPORE. THEY REFORM THEIR POLICE AND MILITARY TO HELP THE GOVERNMENT ACHIEVE ITS ECONOMIC GOALS, AND ACHIEVE THEY DID DI BA?
you have stayed sa Manila na medyo matagal na panahon na since you became the President, hindi mo ba bibisitahin ang ibang lugar sa Visayas at Mindanao. You have to see it yourself.
Marami pang matinong Pulis at Militar, ang problema kasi ay external Forces to reform these two. Huwag nyo silang pabayaan. Napaka powerful ng mga institution na yan. Use them wisely for the country's benefit and not for themselves alone.
let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with ourselves.Godbless.
