February 25, 1986: Mrs. Aquino was inaugurated as President of the Philippines by Supreme Court Associate Justice Claudio Teehankee, making her the first woman president in Asia. Marcos held his own inauguration at the Malacanang Palace, only to fly into exile later that night.

December 1989: Rebel soldiers stage the most serious coup attempt against the Aquino government, bombing Malacañang and mobilizing thousands of troops; US Air Force jets assist pro-government forces in suppressing the revolt.

June 30, 1992: Mrs. Aquino ends her presidency and turns over the reins of government to her handpicked successor, former defense secretary Fidel Ramos.

August 1999: TIME Magazine names Mrs. Aquino one of the 20 most influential Asians of the 20th century.

January 2001: Mrs. Aquino joins the widespread clamor for the resignation of popularly elected President Joseph Estrada, who was eventually deposed by EDSA II.

July 2005: Mrs. Aquino asks President Arroyo to “make the supreme sacrifice” and resign, following allegations of election cheating triggered by the release of wiretapped conversations between Arroyo and COMELEC official Virgilio Garcillano.

March 2008: The former president is diagnosed with colon cancer.

December 22, 2008: Mrs. Aquino apologizes to Estrada for supporting EDSA II, amid the corruption scandals hounding the Arroyo administration.

May 2009: Mrs. Aquino undergoes surgery to remove parts of her colon.

June 23, 2009: The ailing leader is admitted at the Makati Medical Center for loss of appetite; her family appeals for privacy and issues a call to prayer for her recovery.

August 1, 2009: Former president Aquino passes away at 3:18 a.m. of
cardiorespiratory arrest with her children at her bedside.

You’re one of the only three persons in the whole world that I’m dying to meet… That’s quite impossible now because you’re sick. But if postponing the once-in-a-lifetime chance of finally meeting you in flesh and blood could help prolong your life, I am willing to wait and sacrifice for another five years, or ten years just to tell you that we want you to stay with us longer… Thank you so much for inspiring us Filipinos into not even make us dreaming the highest dreams we can dream about, but in simply trying to be the best that we can be by constantly praying in order for our country to attain the supreme sense of nationhood. I’ve always looked at you as my second mother… from the way you walked, the way you talked, the way you smiled; the way you lived, the way you loved… us. From a mother to a Mother of the nation is a big leap. Kahit na alam nya na malaking problema ang haharapin nya sa pagiging Ina ng bayan, she still takes the risk for our democracy. A woman of courage and prayerful.
    God bless you Madame Cory!

I join the family in praying for the quick recovery of who I highly respect as a Leader and who I consider the most transparent president ever, a woman of dignity, a woman of faith, a filipina who has taken back the respect of all the nations to our country, a mother, grandmother, the true mother of the filipino people, a living hero, a patriot, a woman of giving, a woman who would put her self first in line to protect and fight any threat to the democracy she has given back to our country.

May the healing hands of our Devine Lord touch our beloved President Cory Aquino and may he grant her complete healing and recovery.

Madame President, My love and respect for you will always be in my heart. I always see my Mom in you every time I see you.

  23. Anna Says:

I remember the day you swore in front of the Filipino people as President, I was there outside Club Filipino with my Mom and my relatives! I was only 12 years old at that time!

I even remembered how I queued the very long line just to see the wake of your husband one late night from Banawe to Sto. Domingo Church.

A “simple housewife” as they branded you before but you became a symbol of peace and unity among Filipinos. You made me very proud to be a Filipino!

But as time went by, things changed, people changed and life had to go on…

We will never know when God will take back the life that He has lent us… And for that we always have to be ready.

Am still praying for a miracle for you Madam President…

You have been a part of my life and you will always be a part of History.

God loves you so much… He will be there with you… Always!

  24. Philip Acob Says:

Yes, I am Ilocano, kababayan ni Marcos but I admire President Cory Aquino for her leadership before and not for extending for her term and gave another chance for another leader at that time simply by applying what the Constitution said, Mrs. President Aquino, I pray for your continouos healing and believe that through the wounds and bruises of our Lord Jesus Christ you are now healed according to Isaiah 53:5. Try to see this verse in the Holy Bible. I hope that you are still alive for many years to come especially for next year to come. That for 2010 election you are still in the TV asking for a clean and honest election and you will see a transfer of power for the righteous and have a heart for the poor next President, Believe Mam Pres. Cory that you are now healed by our Lord Jesus. I believe that maaabot mo pa ang 100 years of your life. Thank you.

  27. Jomel Says:

Hope Madam Cory will be ok, Our prayers be with you madam, but please,

    To All;

wag naman sana natin masyado isapubliko ang ganitong bagay, let’s not make the people worry so much… it’s good kasi ngkakaisa ang pilipino to pray for madam, pero pano ang mga taong hindi na naasikaso ang Bayan at ang sarili, naapektuhan lang sila masyado dahil sa pagkalungkot ng taong bayan.. dahil sa impluwensiya ng pagsasapubliko ninyo ng kalagayan ng dating pangulo..

    thanks

  28. Ricky Says:

After EDSA, Cory visited Pampanga and delivered a speech, If my memory serves me right that was the time she was adopted as a daughter of Pampanga, I was with my father then, an elementary public school head, I never seen my father cry until the day he listened to Cory (I noticed tears in his eyes then). My late father was a die-hard Corista and I am a die hard fan of my father.

Now I know the feeling, as I am reading the comments above, I can’t help but to shed tears for madame Cory. This is one of the very few times that I become sentimental. I know the feelings of Kris and Noynoy, three years ago, my mother died of leukemia.

I am from Pampanga and I vouched that pampanga is a Cory province, why not Cory is also a Kapampangan by heart. Madame, i am an evangelical christian and you are always in my daily prayers. I believe that prayers make miracles, and should God decides to take you home it is because God wants you to0 see Him face to face.

    Love you!!

She sought not for fame when she entered the political arena, but for redemption for a country thrust mercilessly into a hellish cauldron of corruption, abject poverty, dictatorship, and hopelessness. Hope springs eternal was her motto, and made the most of what she had-dogged determination, hard work, eloquence, genuine love for her nation and people, and launched a revolution- resulting in the restitution of true freedom and liberty for all. Thanks, Pres. Cory for a life well-lived…for others.

  54. LARRY Says:

I was once then a young boy during her reign as a President and I remebered her poster hanged on our classroom wall. She was the President whom I have grown without any grievances. I thought that time, maybe I was just unaware. But when time passes by and reality brought to me by knowledge and studies of Philippine governance, I clearly realized that she did her best and she proved those criticizers were wrong. Inspite of being one of her daughter’s fan, I really admire Former President’s way of her upbringing her family. She really a model mother to the Filipino women. Inspite of being busy in her career as a leader, yet she had her time to manage her family and we can see how good and organize her family now.
My Dear President, wherever you may go, I know that God Almighty or Allah will be there to welcome you in His Eternal Kingdom and He will reward you the Everlasting Peace that you dreamed of.
Viva Madam and your legacies will always be in our Hearts, just always look on us and may your Prayers will always be with us. I know that Mama Mary awaits you in Her Temple for your being devoted to Her teachings.

  57. Jessie Says:

The Philippines lost a great, if not its greatest, leader in Cory Aquino.

Madam Cory, you will always be remembered as a woman of steel and velvet. A strong woman yet a loving mother and grandmother. Understandably so, at first you were a hesitant leader but when you realized God’s call, you took up the reins of government and led the Filipino people using the best of your abilities given by Divine Providence. Against all odds, you did your job as President with aplomb and quiet dignity. You may not be perfect (who is?) but you certainly did not sell your soul to the devil. You might be a person of means but you never failed to treat everybody around you as a fellow human being regardless of their station in life. When your children erred, you did not shun them but you accepted them just as God accepts sinners who return to Him. Indeed, you are a woman of honorable principles and unswerving faith in God. Your faith will see you through. May we always honor your memory and example.

If 2 million Pinoys gathered at Ninoy’s funeral, more should join this time because she is our mother who led us away from the grasp of the dictator-bully. We are proud that we were born Filipinos like her.

Condolence to the Aquino Family — from us in Uganda.

  58. Cris Says:

    Our Dear Beloved President Cory,

  62. ARNEL B. BUHANGIN Says:

Congratulations & GOD Bless!!! MADAM PRESIDENT CORY C. AQUINO

Your emergence to the Nation as the 1st Phil Woman President and so in Asia was the very time i got oriented in Philippine Politics system, wherein you became very inspirational to me as i grow older. Eventually, I joined youth politics as SK-Sangguniang Kabataan Kagawad while at the same time I was a scholar at PLM-Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila taking up Business Administration…Conratulations sa sa’yo mga magagandang alaala na naabutan kopa sa aking kabataan at bahagi na ng ating kasaysayan.

  68. Fabe Class of 96 Says:

    Dear Madam Cory,
My snappy salute to you, ma’am.
I don’t know what more can I say..I am deeply sad as i can’t not even see you at the very last time being out of the country. I don’t know how my messages through the internet could even reach your family to let them know how thankful I am for coming to the Filipino lives and fight for our freedom. I could not imagine now that I have two teenagers how life would it be without your courage more than two decades ago. I will keep my kids informed about your heroic acts when I was at their age, and being a true witness to that event. I joined the PNP ten year after to serve the people, but honestly I could not do the same as you did as I was eaten up by the culture and the system. so I decided leave the service in compliance to the last stanza of “pledge of loyalty” and go straight forward. How I wish you were reading my messages in all internet forums..please keep watching our country as get close with the Lord. We will miss you…Again, I am rendering my last and most snappy salute.

    Tanghal…na!

  69. LIA Says:

I’m a genuine Ilocano, but I praised former Pres. Cory Aquino during her reign as our President. Marangal ang kanyang panunungkulan, what admired me most about her was, she was NOT involved for any corruption in our country. I did NOT hear any of these issues during her time. She’s a God-fearing president, and she showed care to the Filipino citizens. BINANTAYAN NIYANG MAIGI ANG KABAN NG MAMAMAYAN. M A Y Y O U R E S T I N P E A C E. YOU’RE DEARLY MISSED.

  77. Tess C. Sanglay Says:

News of her death made me backtrack to the People Power Years.. when democracy was restored in the country. Once again, the filipino has become free.. it’s a shame that your heroism was kept for the books, shelved with the past. Our children know little of what you did but for us who walked the streets and joined in your endeavour will not falter on speaking the truth about your priceless contributions to our nation. Your life and deeds will forever remain in our hearts.

In prayer, we May you rest in peace as you join our Creator. .

  78. Bjorn Timario Says:

    Tita Cory!

You have touched the lives of the majority if not all of our countrymen. Selflessly, you have chosen to live your life for God and Country. You are a great mother to our nation. You continuously inspire us to love our country and be proud that we are Filipino.

Being an OFW, I sometimes blame and hate the Philippines for making me decide to leave to search for better opportunities in other countries. But when I saw and heard you say the we Filipinos should love our country because it is the only country that we have, I reflected and eliminated my negative perceptions about the Philippines and brought back my love and respect for it.

You are one of the reasons why I continue to be so proud of being a Filipino.

    Maraming Salamat Po!

You became a President of the Philippines not only Filipinos vote for you but God gave you that power for us to know that God still the most Powerful. May you continue guide our leaders. I love you very much madam president.

  80. Symphony John C. Castillo Says:

    Kanyang buong buong maiintindihan

    Ngunit nakalulungkot at nakauubos luha

    From; Marilyn Quiogue RGN
    Cherry Orchard Hospital
    Dublin Ireland

Our deepest sympathy to Tita Cory’s daughters, son, grandchildren and her extended family members, Filipinos here in Ireland are so deeply saddened by her death.
We know she will be a big lost to our nation. Though she have not done all our expectations during her reign, she will still be remembered as the only President who tried her best to unite our country until to her last breath and even to death, through prayers, like the essence of the Peoples Power revolt who propelled her to presidency.

What a waste, now that she is gone we hope we could (as a people) be again prayerful, conscientious and will still be a God fearing nation as we’ve always been.

As OFW’s, wherever we are prayers is our only refuge, that makes us stand out for whatever predicaments we faced. You are not just an icon Tita Cory, you are an inspiration, thank you…

    OFW and Cory
    By: Sonnel 8/5/09

Far from the land of our birth
We thrived on this one land called earth
To be back home our constant dearth
Our fatherland, our countrymen, our mirth

    Adopted, yet unwanted.
    Paid yet unneeded.
    Seen yet unseen.
    Here yet keen.

Keen to see the day of our return.
Hoping and weeping, graceful and silent
    Struggling,striving and always benevolent.
Sending our dollars like we’ve tons to burn.

Keen to see our nation’s rebirth.
See Happy pinoys with none so poor.
    humble leaders with diminished girth.
‘Tis we should see at the end of our tour.

The death of cory increased our sorrow.
Yet we struggle on coz there is still tomorrow.
She was the mother would have not let us leave.
A fellow pinoy who would have wanted us to cleave.
She believed what many of us forsook.
The road she travelled, we did not took.

Yet in the depths of our hearts we are brown.
We knew then and we know now that we can.
That we Pinoys can never be let down.
And we may yet prove that we are her avid fan.

  96. Ruby Says:

  111. i can Says:

My Ilocano mother-in-law said she could not recall anything big Cory has done during her term. With all due respect to her (my mother-in-law), I beg to disagree. For somebody to keep the peace and democracy inspite of multiple coup attempts and natural disasters. The people couldn’t ask of anything bigger because Tita Cory has given everything for the Filipino people, her husband, herself, her prayers and finally her death. Nobody else could have lead millions of people to EDSA without magic — The magic that only a humble yet courageous housewife knows. And yet even this magic she shared to the people. Now that’s what I call Cory magic.

Maraming-maraming Salamat at Paalam, Madame Cory!

  112. Ariel Aquino Says:

She Is Now A Rose At The Garden Of Heaven
    A Tribute To Cory Aquino

In her time, she lead’s and showed us the light
Guiding us to the path with unselfish heart
Leading us to our freedom with devotion and love
She’s the greatest leader that we ever had

In our darkest moment, we are not alone
She is always with us every step of the way
Like a beacon of light in our journey in life
Like a caring mother to a newborn child

It is now her turn to be cared upon
By angels and saints in paradise
Don’t feel abandoned, for our greatest lost
At the garden of heaven, she is now a rose

God has a purpose in our heartache in life
There are precious lessons in each sorrow and test
Like the freedom we have that we took for granted
It’s the greatest gift from our president

God always knows what is good and best
It is not our lost, but her graceful exit
It’s the end of her path in her journey in life
It’s her time to be cared by angels and saints

  113. Beth Provido-Enoy Says:

  114. Gian Carlo de Jesus Says:

    Madam Cory,

Thank You President Cory for your Leadership Legacy!! I wrote a simple poem and I want to dedicate this for you for what you did in our country. I am bless and thankful because I am a Filipino!! We love You!!!

    Butihing ina at kilalang makatao
    Madasaling kaibigan at huwarang totoo
    Iyan si Maria Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino.

    Ilaw ng tahanan ang pagkakakilanlan
Hanggang sa dumating panahong ‘di inaasahan
    Kanyang asawa’y ikinulong, pinarusahan’t pinaslang

    Buo n’yang pagkatao’t pamilya’y inialay

    Kaysarap balikan panahong ipinamalas
