A Cory Aquino profile by Sheila Coronel
Sheila Coronel, one of the very few Filipino journalists to receive a Ramon Magsaysay Award, has covered every Philippine president from Marcos to Arroyo. In 2006, she wrote the following memorable profile of former president Cory Aquino in time for the 20th anniversary of EDSA’s People Power revolt. An excerpt below, with a link to the entire article.

Corazon C. Aquino. Photo by Lilen Uy
TO THIS day, Cory Aquino remains a firm believer in people power, never mind that its currency has been much devalued by the dashed expectations of those who had taken part in popular revolts. People power, she says, “will bring change but not the ultimate or desired change that will continue.” This is why, she says, “we have to change first within ourselves and we have to continuously find out what it is that we can do to offer to our country.”
To this day, Aquino talks about politics in moral and religious terms.
Her political vocabulary is firmly Catholic: she speaks of suffering, sacrifice, good and evil, right and wrong. Her analysis of contemporary problems is couched in religious parable. To Cory Aquino, life — and politics — is a morality play, and our lives are nothing but pale versions of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
“You know,” she says, “when Ninoy was in prison, I used to think all of us have a quota for suffering and when Ninoy was assassinated, I supposed I’d filled up my quota of suffering. But that isn’t so, and when we think of Jesus Christ who did not do anybody any wrong, He was goodness Himself, and yet He was prepared to make all of these sacrifices and His suffering did not end until he died. So I suppose, each of us, while we are in this world, while we are here in the Philippines, must think of what it is that we can still offer to make life better for our fellow Filipinos.

I just want to say thank you to Mrs. Aquino for the love of country, for being a mother to your countrymen, for being an example, for still being concerned about our country’s situation, for fighting for our freedom and the Arroyo’s evil intentions even if we all know that you are fighting something for yourself.
Your husband died fighting for the Filipino’s. Am praying that you will still be with us until we are a corrupt free country. That means you will still have a long life ahead. Please keep the faith that you have in you. I know you can do this. You did it before when NINOY was assasinated, and it was worst than your situation now. With your neverending faith in GOD, HE will do it again for you. Pls be strong for us. We need to take gloria down before she gets us. Shes worst than anybody else. Shes worst than marcos. I guess pareho lang sila ni RAMOS. Thats why they can’t afford to leave malacanang. You know everything thats going on. I know GOD will still extend your life because you still have to finish a long time battle that all of us are fighting.
GOD bless always Mrs. AQUINO. Our president, our mother, our pride.

i saw mrs. corazon c. aquino in baclaran church in 1986 and she gave me a handshake…which was an honor for me to meet one of the greatest filipino leaders in our time. the second time was during the funeral of her late husband, the former senator benigno aquino, filipino martyr and hero in our hearts. i had lots of photos and great memories during the funeral which i considered a great moment in philippine history.
today, i join every filipino in prayer for more courage in facing all the challenges, trials and sacrifices the nation is having now. God bless mrs. aquino, and thank you for the great legacy you have given to all the filipino people. our sincerest prayers for you…….

I hope PGMA will humble herself and pay PCCA a visit in the hospital. It will be definitely good news to see them together again. I think it will be a good respite from all the bad news that we are hearing if ever the two women presidents together again with FVR included. May they set aside their personal and political differences and instead work together again for the country.
We love you President Aquino and thank you for service and sacrifices for the Filipino people. You are truly a great person. We will continue to pray for your speedy recovery. God bless you!
July 7th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
I also hope that Mrs. Imelda Marcos will find sincerity in her hearts to reconcile with President Cory Aquino now that they are both aged. Although I hate and despise Imelda before and respect and admire Cory until now, I wish to see the two powerful women in their own rights together, setting aside their differences and setting a good example of true reconciliation and peace. Who knows the situation where our beloved President Aquino is in now may be the start of a new beginning for us Filipinos as we all come together and bridge our political, social, economic and personal differences and make this country great again. Who knows it will still be because of President Aquino that a new hope will dawn to our country.
July 7th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Thank you Mam for restoring our democracy. you are indeed a great person
and a great leader as well. We are praying for your speedy recovery May God Bless and Keep You Always..
July 8th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Thank you very much Tita Cory! Pagaling po kayo at rest assured, I and the millions of Filipinos are always thinking of you and praying for your health and your family. Without you, I am sure the Philippines would witnessed a violent history come the dictator’s demise and the power grabbing that would have ensued. Without you, the Philippines would not be enjoying a democracy imperfect and corrupt though it may be. Who says a nation’s progress should only rest on the leader - I think by now we know that it is all Filipinos’ responsbility especially the upper classes - think of the Indian exapatriates and what they did to India. Hope the rich Filipinos desist from further corruption and the masses to refrain from voting corrupt and or convicted Filipinos.

I was 12 Years old when Pres. Aquino became the 1st Woman President of the Philippines. I Saw how she handle all the trials in her Administration and I can say she handle it very very well. Giving became Free to All. etc etc. i saw her too as she step down to the Presidency. I felt sad then but for her it ok.. She not Interested to grab or stay in Power for so long. When the time is up she really go out and step down. She A Living Legend to all of Us. I always support whatever since into.. During the Ratification rally for the US Military Bases in Olongapo.Even thought is raining very hard I walk with her in Luneta. I was college then. side by side i join here. Any Election personality that she endorse Lim etc etc I support it. every time she all or need us Filipino I Stand with her.. Now I’m not there to see her winning the Colon Cancer.. It very painful to me that know that she need our support im very very far.. But eve thought I’m here in Dubai I Want her to know that I will Always pray for her.. and I hope to See her strong again. I wish i Can visit her one day.. I Respect you Mr. Aquino and I will always put in my mind all the seeds that you gave to us, filipino. to love our country to defend our democracy to sacrifice for our country, One Thing I can Promise you is this if there will be others chance for me to serve to our country men. I will be Honor and Glad to say that I’ll Follow your footsteps as a Good Example of a True Leader of the Nation. God Bless you And God Bless All the Filipino….

I won’t wish for anything but BEST for you in GOD’s hands and for whatever HIS will is… ma it also be your deepest desire. God must have love you so much and so are we - Filipinos. Thank you so much for everything you have done for us and our country.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
One thing i noticed, is that Mrs. Aquino had sacrificed alot for our country. But no one seems to join her fight for freedom. I just read that the transport strike was a flop in Metro manila. I am sad to hear this news. We should all act as one. It’s not just the public transpo’s concern to go on strike. Imagine how much money this OIL companies will loose if no one. Not a single motorist will fill their tank on one day. They will loose millions of pesos. This isn’t just a cry of the poor. This should be backed-up by the rich people. I appeal to all the FILIPINOS to make that sacrifice that we are praying for. We are praying too much for Mrs. Aquino. Why don’t we try to do what she had done for our country? Imagine if we sacrifice just one day. Just one day. One day wiht no one filling up their gas tanks. One day without any FILIPINO sending dollars to the Philippines so that the arroyo’s can’t get anything anymore money from them. One day of prayer. One day! One PHILIPPINES!
GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY

Pamahalaang diktaturyal kanyang napalayas
Ako’y napaluha at napatanong,
July 20th, 2009 at 4:37 pm

The biggest and most important thing Mrs Aquino brought to our fragmented nation is the restoration of our democracy. At a time when the majority felt so scared against the dictatorship, Mrs Aquino stood there and met her adversary face to face. That alone paved the way for our freedom, our cherised democracy. Thank you Mrs Aquino for giving us the lasting gift of democracy, sadly many of us took for granted of such thing wherein once upon a time it was indeed wishful thinking.
Not to take away your contribution to democracy was your chance to restore the stability of it. How I wish you spearheaded the revival of the 1935 Constitution, the 2 party system et al. Again it hurts to say this but your biggest mistake in my book was creating an entirely New Constitution, wherein a multi party system promotes instability among the political landscape.
Still, I salute your contributions and I promise to tie a yellow ribbon somewhere my backyard.
July 25th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
to our beloved former president Aquino.. my prayers are always be with you.. hope u will overcome these struggles.. i believe that u are a woman of great faith… OUr Almighty God will help you…. thank you for bringing back our lost democracy and independence…..sana po gumaling ka na from your illness…. jelo

Thanks to GMA 7 for doing this blog site. Thanks for letting us say something. At least to express what we feel about our Former President and about our current president.
Aquino. Salamat sa Diyos at ginawa nya akong PILIPINO.
Lets be proud and fight. Lets continue CORY’s cry for freedom. Let’s be FILIPINO’s again. Let’s vote against any Administration candidates. Lets Vote for someone who is willing to be a FILlIPINO.
GOD BLESS US ALL

President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino symbolizes greatness, courage, dedication and humility she’s the Philippines most loved President that follows the likes of Ramon Magsaysay,Manuel Quezon and Manuel Roxas. She inspired the world as the real icon of democracy in modern times that can be compared to the great leaders of civilization in the likeness of Abraham Lincoln,George Washington,Mahatma Gandhi,Winston Churchill,Nelson Mandela and Lech Walesa. Her triumph exemplified change in Communist Europe and Authocratic Asia. She’s a leader par excellance that every aspiring leader must emulate ,a woman of courage who sacrificed her personal comfort and embraced hardship for the sake of her people. Now in the most challenging time of her life her legacy remains a strong force to unite a filipino nation in the midst of another threat of yet impending political crisis,President Cory’s struggle to defend democracy will linger in the minds of many generations and will serve as a shining armour that freedom is a God given gift that no mortal can suppress. Her contribution to the world will be forever lingered.May God grant her miraculous healing and be able to recover ,for her mission is not yet over.

I watched again and again the documentary of Ninoy and Cory Aquino’s life together and I cannot hold my tears and emotion how the martial law of Ferdinand Marcos made the hell on their lives. The cruelty of dictatorship is like burning fire of hell. And in the midst of these inhumanity that strucked our nation’s history, the culprits including Imelda Marcos are living free nowadays. Well, history had already judged the Marcoses as the worst nightmare the Philippines ever had.
Long live President Corazon Aquino!, whatever happens, your legacy and Ninoy’s will live in the hearts of freedom loving Filipinos forever.
WE LOVE YOU MADAME PRESIDENT! I PRAYED THAT THE LORD WILL GRANT YOU COMFORT AND HEALING..

Maam CORY
Ilaw ka ng aking Bayang kinagisnan
Haligi’t suhay ng Demokrasya sa Silangan
Ina, Gabay, Pinuno, lahat iyong ginampanan
Bagkos kami’y Pinag-kaisa’t Ipinagkapit-bisig
Dahil dito’y bumangon kaming Mahihirap

As far as I remember I was in grade 2, when I tasted a cookie in which ma’am Cory baked during the birthday party for Kris. I never thought that she will become our first woman president and an icon of democracy. The last time I saw her was in 2006 when I went back to the Philippines for vacation, and brought her a bag of pistachio nuts and before we leave for New York, my wife and I visited her again for courtesy, she never fails to give us words of wisdom, and she always tells us to pray, go to church every Sunday and stay connected to our family.
With much respect I humble myself in thanking you for all the blessing and kindness that you and your family gave us. With this, for the Filipinos around the world, they have consider her as the First Woman President, an Icon & Mother of Democracy in the Philippines, to us you are Ma’am Cory, because you consider us Family even though my father is your family driver for the longest time. Thank you and get well, we are still here praying.

I’m still in shock when I heard the news. I live in Canada for almost 10 years now and I never really had a chance to read any Philippine news until today. I didn’t know that Tita Cory is sick for sometime now that’s why when I heard the news, I can’t stop crying.
This is a sad, sad day.

Tita Cory…good bye and thank you…you will always be alive in our hearts and minds. Thank you for being our President and for being the most honest, simplest, humblest, most sincere president not only in the Philippines but in the whole world…no one can duplicate you…
I can still remember 1986, when we marched (together with my colleagues in COA) from EDSA to channel 4 and 2 and to EDSA Camp Aguinaldo…it was such an event that i cannot and will not forget as long as i live…this bloodless revolution that helped return democracy in our land. Thank you Tita Cory…and Paalam…we love you!

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit… May your Soul “Inang Corazon Aquino” rest in peace. Amen.

To the whole family, friends & relatives of the late genuine President Corazon C. Aquino we would like to say a warmth condolence not just for you but for the entire Filipino nation.
It’s been sad to those who really believe that this matter comes along our way…but as Pres. Aquino say’s, we must be united and be on fight for our rights mostly for democracy.
Great leader comes along the way…but we must not forget those great times they shared to us…hoping that we could be able to continue what she showed to us.
Into the respective family…it deeply hurts; but it is much worst if we could be able to see much of her that suffering from pain. Somehow, I felt the same when my mother passed away. We must be thankful for the days that your family united even before and after your great Father died; but still there were much memorable days to count.
Let us just pray for her soul and mostly for our country and as well as our countrymen…let us not give chance those in the positions to handle everything and to acknowledge thier corrupt mental beliefs. In due that even Ms. Aquino does not like this scenario for all of us.
Again, condolence to the respective Aquino family…more braveness for all of you, especially on Kris…be proud that you have that kind of mother, hope to continue what she really wants not us for individuals but for the Philippines and we are thankful for sharing her to the entire Filipino nations.
Madam…Mabuhay po kayo at Pagpalain pa tayo ng Poong Maykapal.

I’ve known Cory Aquino as the wife of the late senator Ninoy Aquino, and then as the mother of the t.v. personality Kris Aquino.Pero ngaun, as she peacefully past away, unti-unti nakikila ko ang tunay na Corazon Aquino.I now know as her a democracy icon, a strong willed woman. I may not have a yellow ribbon tied on my car, or I may not be wearing a yellow shirt. But Cory’s legacy, her memories, her love for the country, nandito at bumabalot sa puso ko. Let us not mourn. Sa halip, let us all rejoice, for the good Lord gave us Cory. My deepest and sincerest condolences to all whose lives are touched by President Cory. Mabuhay ka Presidente Cory Aquino.

A woman of eloquence and simplicity. Her thiry-minute address at the US Congress brought $200,000,000.00 aid from the USA.Her administration engendered opposition and political enemies, and coup-d etats. Yet, Cory was unruffled and stood sturdy and stately as a rock, even a rock of refuge for her countrymen. Now she is gone, she will long be remembered, leaving a legacy that will spur everybody to emulate her shining examples of courage, dignity, love for freedom, and genuine concern for others, especially the less fortunate and needy- and fear and love to her Divine Protector and Deliverer.

It’s a tragedy for us FILIPINOs loosing her.

I have never been experienced writing a blog or comments to someone who is a history icon. I was in grade III when we had our People Power and I even asked my father how to vote for Snap Elections. At the very young age, I have learned the true meaning of Democracy because of her. Afterwards, my interest in social issues became more responsive as I grew up. She left marks to my childhood principles in a way that showing how genuine faith is and not all war is companioned by bullets.
I deeply thank her for the freedom what we’re enjoying now and teaching how to hold faith in our hearts. I can’t manage myself crying….

Me and my family was deeply saddened by the death of Tita Cory yesterday morning. Me and my brothers were part of the historical Edsa People Power 1. I went there and distributed sandwiches and juices at my own will.
Malungkot man, ay masaya na rin because she’s now in peace with Lord.
At sa mga anak niya… love each other, we love you, too.

I was not able to witness the 1986 Edsa Revolution. I am young. But I know how important Ms. Cory Aquino is to our country. I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family. We are all at a loss. My family is very sad, the whole country mourns because we know we have lost THE MOST IMPORTANT WOMAN IN THE PHILIPPINES, THE GREATEST FILIPINA THAT EVER LIVED. She would always say ‘THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR HELP”…BUT TRUTH IS, WE SHOULD BE THE ONES TO THANK HER.
kung wala si Cory Aquino noon? Nasaan kaya tayo ngayon? Nakamit kaya natin ang demokrasyang tinatamo natin ngayon?

It hurts to say GOODBYE! but we need to accept the will of God in wich we prayed to Him “MAY THY HOLY WILL BE DONE”.
We know that Cory Aquino is gone by her physical, but she is alive in the memory of every Filipino, for what she have shown to the nation.
I salute you madam President !!!

I’m just a High school student, I know what our former President Cory Aquino faces many sacrifices since the Martial law was been ordered by Ferdinand Marcos. I’m so glad that a good, simple woman raised her 5 children without her husband. And now she is now with her husband Benigno Aquino in heaven.
St. Cory, Patron of Democracy. Pray for us all Filipinos.
I’M PROUD BEING FILIPINO!!!

I was only 1 year old the time she started ruling our country…
I don’t have enough knowledge that time, on what is totally the main event in this world, especially in our country…
I don’t really know how she put people in the right stage of leaving…
I’m always asking myself, “how far Madam Cory Aquino does goes during her time (as the President) for the people to show their respect, love, care and sympathy to her and to her family as well?”
…but that question is answered already…I think what the people doing right now is the real answer…
She wants us to build the true meaning of UNITY, which I think, the most important thing that we must show to build a better nation or to make our country a better nation…
To Madam Cory Cojuangco-Aquino,
Thank you for being an inspiration for others…for them to build the faith, dedication, courage, love and respect to their selves…
The nation will be missing you…and I’m sure that the whole country will truly open their hearts, not only for what you did, but for who you are…
Madam Cory Aquino, a leader, a mother, a, sister, a friend of all nations….
Thank You so much!!!

TO YOU MADAME CORY, I DEDICATE JAMES HENRY LEIGH HUNT’S POEM:
ABOU BEN ADHEM
Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight of his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:-
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
‘What writest thou?’ - The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered ‘The names of those who love the Lord.’
‘And is mine one?’ said Abou. ‘Nay, not so,’
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerily still; and said ‘I pray thee then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow-men.’
The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names who love of God had blessed,
And lo! Ben Adhem’s name led all the rest.
Truly Madame Cory, your name leads the rest…
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND FIND ETERNAL
HAPPINESS WITH NINOY AND THE LORD!

Kaban ng yaman kailan man di pinag-intirisan
Demokrasyang ipinaglaban aming iingatan
Naisin man nilang bawiin handog mong kalayaan

I personally have not met our president Cory, but i was touched by what i heard from her interview by Jessica Soho when she mentioned that she would like to thank the lord for being a Filipino….. that word struck my heart…for so many years(iam 47yrs old) that i have been a christian, i have never thought of thanking the Lord for being a Filipino…. Now,my mind and heart was opened that i am very proud to be a Filipino, no matter what, no matter how hard, i am proud that iam a FILIPINO and this is because of MY PRESIDENT, OUR PRESIDENT, OUR MOTHER, Cory Aquino. We love you and i have promise myself to contribute in anyway to our country.
August 5th, 2009 at 8:41 am
Cory was first a mother to her children, a father and a mother when Ninoy died and then, a mother and a father to the Filipino people. She’s the only President closest to the Filipino people because she is very dignified and yet within our reach. A president we can call TITA.

Please pray for GMA that the holy spirit may bless her that she steps down not in 2010 but now. LETS START a new revolution. Lets continue CORY’s fight. Lets rally again our people and let gloria go. WE dont need you anymore gloria.

In behalf of all students who had not witnessed what you’ve done to our country, we felt your bravery and pureness not only as a president but also as a mother. Condolence!!! You may not be the best president yet, but you are The Most Pure and Simple EVER!!!
thank you po!!!

it is worth waiting for her (tita cory) as her coffin pass by along roxas boulevard in front of manila hotel and the statue of sen. ninoy aquino. you are both our inspiration of my family.my father was detained at camp crame together with sen. mitra, and sen. ninoy aquino and he always told us the kindness of sen. ninoy.i also went to edsa during people power days to support tita cory in her fight for democracy. now i still went to this event not just to be a part of philippine history but to thank her personally (in front of her coffin) and ask her to give my gratitude to sen. ninoy in his kindness to my father when he was with him at camp crame.tita cory and tito ninoy you are really the COUPLES FOR CHRIST.you are the best model for filipino couples because you love each other so much.I hope that the filipinos not only appreciate your fight for democracy but they may also realize that you remain faithful with each other hanggang sa kabilang buhay. we love you. pakikumusta na rin po ako sa tatay ko na kasama nyo na rin ngayon. salamat po ulit at paalam. mamimiss po namin kayo.pero mananatili po kayo sa puso ng bawat pilipino.

My 93-year old Grandfather, Felipe A. Fernandez, Sr., a U.S. Cavalry during World War II from San Francisco, CA. He sent his condolences to Aquino family with this song, with a tune of Military Taps.
This is for Corazon:
So now good night
Peaceful night;
Till the light of the dawn is shining bright.
Do not fear,
God is near;
CORY GOOD NIGHT.
Grandpa.

I remember one line of an article of the late President Corazon Aquino many years ago, regarding in the commemoration of the PEOPLE POWER, and I quote “knowing when to leave is no less important than knowing when to arrive”. It seemed that the structure along the Pasig River is indeed a home that anyone would not want to walk out with. And rightfully this passage may have dropped curtain calls to somebody who aspire trilogy in the palace.
Ninoy died for his country. Cory resurrected his death and more so recuperated the country’s state of coma.

SALAMAT TITA CORY. GoD is Good in sharing to us Tita Cory. My own opinion is: LET US SETTLE OUR HEARTS, CLEAN & PURE. NO MORE BITTERNESS no matter what comes along the way. let us conquer our hearts bitterness, mga sama ng loob , mga tampuritis, tsismitis, lahat pakawalan yan ! at upang mapagtagumpayan ay laging manalangin ng tulong mula sa Holy Spirit na tulungan tayo all the time in all our transactions in life. kasi lagi tayong i tetest kahit sa maliliit and yet nakaka inis na situasyon. GOD BLESS TO ALL.

my heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of Madame Pres. Cory Aquino.
she was a saviour to the filipino people,a good leader, she restored democracy to the filipino people, loving mother to all.when she lost Ninoy, it was the beggining of a new era of fredom. i say goodbye to Madame Cory, but the legacy remains in our hearts, among the filipino people. my prayers for the rest of your soul.
August 6th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
we will be forever grateful to you madam president. ikaw lang ang may kakayahan sa ating bansa to unite our people. sana nakita mo that even in death you’re still helping our country. so nice to see people na magkakabangayan before but for your sake they become civil with each other. sana each and everyone can find forgiveness in their heart so that our country can be at peace. sana rin hindi gamitin ng mga pulitiko ang death mo for their political ambition. we love you and rest in peace. GOD bless you

a humble tribute…. =)
I am but a flower
You can wish to leave me in your home
Or usher me to the streets
Under the sun, fighting amidst people unknown
I am but a flower
I can swing proudly from your shoulders
Or you can leave me on the graves of my race
And drown in cries of mourners
I am but a flower
I do not break in the unforgiving gale
I offer you my strength
Let generations learn from this tale
And so it is my life
All these, the truth you now know
Indeed, I am no ordinary flower
For my color is yellow….

A Cory’s magic!
Is this a sign that Marcoses already accept defeat for the majority of Filipinos because they are Filipinos too and humbly accept the wrongdoings of their father? Or just a God’s will that they go there guided by the Holy Spirit so that Cory will be happy to see it and finally laid her to joyful rest?
BY THE GRACE OF GOD WISHING YOU SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE NOW IN YOUR JOYFUL REST WITH THE LORD JESUS.

CORAZON C. AQUINO
Cory! Cory! Cory! Filipinos do love her!
One icon that united our people together.
Razed down decades old dictatorship without a gunshot;
Administered her duty and for herself thinking not.
Zealous in her faithful service toward our country,
Opened her prayerful heart with much piety.
Not even physical death could cause her from our hearts depart.
Cory! Cory! Cory! What integrity she did impart!
About fund that is private or public
Quite clearly impressed even on grandkids
Unveiled as a person whose words matched her deeds
Illustrated a worthy pattern indeed.
Never ambitious for herself,
Outdid many to others help.

there is no question on President Cory’s sincerity, integrity and devotion to country. the hero that ninoy was, Pres. Cory carried on the torch. but i have some minor comments. she once was a president, and she knew how difficult and lonely it was to be there. when she disagreed with PGMA, i would that she just kept silent. after all, there is definitely no shortage of critics to PGMA. i am no fan of PGMA. one thing i admire about past US presidents is that they do not criticize publicly the sitting president. they had their time; they knew they that when a former president critizes a sitting president, it diminishes the office. it also saddened me that she joined forces with former marcos people in marching against PGMA; unrepentant marcos loyalists at that. lastly, her unswerving stance against charter change is almost like saying that our 1987 constitution is perfect. i think we need to have an open mind on this. don’t get me wrong. i am among those who rallied at ayala during the 80’s. i was at edsa during people power 1. i campaigned and voted for her. she deserved all the outpouring of support shown during her funeral.
