Wednesday, July 11. 2007It’s about attitude...
Things have been said about the RP National Team’s disappointing stint at the 2007 Jones Cup in Taiwan.
While I accept coach Chot Reyes' mindset that this is all about preparing and scouting against possible opponents in the FIBA-Asia in Tokushima later this month, what I cannot stand is the mindset of most of our players who play as if the games don’t matter to those who continue to make sacrifices for our National Team. Many of our current National Team players take many things for granted as evidenced by our losses to Lebanon, Japan and that humiliating loss to Kazakhstan, which highlighted the lack of a proper mindset of the team. I feel our current team is oblivious of the fact that Filipinos here and abroad look forward to inspiring stories from our National Team. There is a lack of effort as evidenced by the team's poor rebounding numbers. (Being outsized is not an excuse for not getting those all important rebounds.) Others say there is lack of quickness in rotating on defense. I say this is about laziness and the lack of effort to hustle back and cover an open man. Many have offered antidotes for our national team. But this so-called national team would near more than just medicine. It needs a major surgery! Trackbacks

If you guys think you can do better, then why don't you present yourself as the next National Team coach?
You are a member of SBP right, Mr. Trinidad? Let me ask you a favor: present us a list of players whom you think can work harder than these guys can do. Players who deserves more than the present national team. Can you do that? Another thing: do you really think Chot Reyes is doing nothing about this? Do you ever coach a team? Can you fire up those players better than Chot Reyes? If you do then, I therefore suggest... (*Chino Trinidad For The Next National Team Coach!*) you read that right, Mr. All-Talk-No-Action.

i dont know who you are,
i have no relationship with Mr chino. i think tama si mr chino. as we observed. the phil team really doing good but not yet in their best.kung mapapansin natin, tinalo pa tayo ng japan, na pinakamahina na team. bakit? yan ang tanong. kasi yung pagiging superstar nila at yung laro, wala sa puso nila. yung sa kasakstan, i cant imagine na 17 points ang tambak, na alam naman natin na isa sa kulelat ang team na to. nakakadismaya. yung will nilang manalo parang di consistent. nawawala yung puso. The comments of mr chino is only a wake up call. Players we filipinos are hoping na maka abot kayo sa olympic, sana naman ipakita nyo sa amin na ang paglalaro nyo ay para sa bayan, di sa pang sarili lang.there are so many players who can still qualified for the slot, but you are the chosen. until now, im still hoping that coach reyes can still include olsen racela as replacement for helterbrand. thanks ton

Do you still think sarili lang nila iniisip nila? Ang tanong panu mo nasabi? Alam mo ba 2 times a day sila magpractice, then a game later? If you don't see it as a sacrifice then I dont know what.
Ang hirap satin puro tayo mga talangka. Put yourselves muna in their places. Sorry, I dont see Mr All-Talk-No-Action's comments as CONSTRUCTIVE. Being constructive, you present them with SOLUTIONS. You dont call them LAZY AND EFFORTLESS just for seeing one game. Have you played competitive basketball Mr?

mr anonymous,
i know and feel that you really supported our team. even me. natural lang sa amin na nakakaintindi sa basketball ang mag comment ng ganito. as you observed during the jones cup, they played much more on showmanship, nawawala yung puso and will na manalo.Maybe they are still adjusting with the brand of game ng international. regarding your questions of , am i playing basketball? Grade 3 pa lang ako player na ako. and i am a coach of a varsity team high school and college. wag kang tira ng tira, think first. phil team fanatic din ako since adornado" time. its normal na mag comment sa team natin so that they shoul/must realized their mistakes and they should know kung ano ba talaga ang kulang pa sa kanila. is it ok mr anonymous? pakilala ka!!!

our players don't have the will win? HA!
our problem is not about the will to win but it is about -- CONSISTENCY. to refresh your minds, we beat the defending champion AIA (USA) and you have guts to say that our players don't have the rights to carry the name PILIPINAS in their jerseys? just because we got beaten by Japan and kazakhstan? that is f-cking rediculous. you know what? all of this is because WE LOVE THE NBA STYLE OF BASKETBALL so much that everytime we compete against other country, we always tried to catch up and have the feeling and atmosphere of FIBA basketball . that is why whenever there's a FIBA tournament, we always end up in 'kangkungan'. you know what Mr. Trinidad, instead of putting the blame on our players, why don't you put your money where your mouth is? lead us to glory. change our culture. ADOPT THE FIBA RULES and trash the NBA basketball in our country. that's the only way so we don't have to adjust whenever there's a FIBA competition. I repeat... PLEASE ADOPT THE FIBA RULEs!

Why are you attacking Mr. Chino Trinidad? What he is doing is using "tough love" technique. The players and their coach (Chot Reyes)should prove him wrong instead of giving lame exucuses. What about a change of coach? Say, Junel Baculi. There is no wrong opinion, so do not go attacking me on this okay. Best of luck to you.

The key for this game is not only a team work but the strategy on how to win the game. Coach Reyes did a good Job on the recent Jones Cup. I think we have a great team to fight on FIBA in Tokyo if we can find the ryhtm of Team Pilipinas we can beat the powerhouse China. GOGOGO! Team Pilipinas.

I agree Sir Chino. The RP team cannot win by the size of the body but rather the size of the heart and direction of the mind. Growth pills can do NO remedy for this ailment but rather an open heart and brain surgery. Despite our lack of height, we have proven that we could beat taller teams, only when our mind is in the right direction and our hearts in the right condition.
Wake up RP Team! We are all watching and hoping. Make us believe.

Obviously lacking is the mental preparedness and consistency. Before the advent of "open" basketball, we use to lament the fact that we cannot send our best players in international competition. But now, even with the best players around, the question of the desire to win is coming into fore. If of any consolation to us, NBA-laden US basketball is undergoing the same predicament as ours.
Inspite of all brickbats being hurled into their way, I just hope our team will give their 100% come the FIBA-Asia tournament. Good luck RP Team

i agree with comish chino, our problems are attitude, desire and consistency. we saw how the nationals played against taiwan. they played one hell of a game. the best defense ever played by the nationals. but we tend to relax just like in the 2nd half of the qatar game and in the kazaks game. let's just be glad that we didn't lose anybody in injury that our team is still intact. remember the centennial team? we lost the asian gold there the day we lost danny seigle to injury. let's just be thankful that we're still on track for japan. whatever happened in the jones cup, let's just continue supporting our national team.

I agree with chito trinidad proper mindset and heart is the key to victory.
And the correct mindset is to win !!! PLEASE NO EXCUSES ... the heart break of every lost can not be mend with the sacrifices of our national team being shown in every commercials. In international basketball league every game should be consider your last. Giving your best in every game. No time for mistakes and they should play until the last second with full intensity. I'm an avid reader of Mr Recah and Mr. Al, and i think their their writings had already influenced some Filipino on how sports should be played. The professional players in the PBA are individually good. They know they are getting paid no matter what. Some of them may not really care whether they win or loose. Why not start getting players from the UAAP or other collegeate teams and start the preparation there for international tournaments . Make it mandatory that they play for the flag before going to the PBA. Even if we loose initially, we can be guaranteed that these players would have experience and learn. Hopefully this can get us back on track and make us at least the best in Asia.
Brad UAAP players? hello gutom lng yan.. u mean cla c soc rivera, arao etc. ang magbabantay ni joseph vogel 1 of the giant sa lebanon....c'mon dude wake up..im not understamating those player becauser may potential dn cla sa future pero wat's best for them is to enhance their skills muna bago tahakin ang land of the giant...

What do we expect,
Our basketball glory was affected by particularly the BAP mess, so suspension occurs and lifted, now we have the SBP (parang tagalog lang ng BAP) Now 2007, this is the right time to go to the next level in terms of basketball, THE OLYMPICS, Remember in 1989, shortly after FIBA modified its rules to allow professional basketball players to participate in international competitions. admitted or not it's really hard to accept what was happening now in our basketball, See what happened in recently concluded Jones CUP, we can see the roster of Lebanon, Jordan, Japan & Kazakhstan as evidence of our losses, their roster might only the 2nd stringer we played, and yet our roster are superstar in PBA, SEE THE POINT! We need to have a sign of commitment & insurgency in playing basketball against any team, Now we will wait & see, what will happen in our Manila Invitational, though i just red here in GMAnews.tv what was happened in Jones Cup, Hello SIR CHINO TRINIDAD, hope you can help us! Bring this up to Comm. NOLI EALA, Hope the PBA.PH should come up for a live feed of Manila Invitational just like what NBA.com did in summer league here, or should broadcast it in ANC on a delayed basis, this will be a great help for us who dont have a tv coverage, thanks.

Pagkayayaman na nila pero ayun lumalaban in strange lands just to make themselves better! And these players and coaches you are reprimanding are actually the ones cleaning up their acts! Oblivious pa din ba sila Mr. Trinidad na their country is hoping for them to win? I like your insights Mr. Trinidad, but I think there was a part that was out of line. "The team needs major Surgery". That is below the belt. That is not constructive either. Because of what you said, I see you are a "GENIUS". Don't you see the sacrifices that those players and coaches make. Yeah, maybe they lack heart. But don't you see the point of joining the Jones Cup??? They are there not to give their best, but to get familiar with their opponents especially Iran and Jordan. The only loss that is unacceptable for me is their loss to Japan. They remedied every situation right?? So let us just support the team ok?? Let us wait for the Tokushima games... That is the REAL game.. I'm sure they will give their A+ games all the way there..

All of us have the right of expression but I hope we don’t exploit this as giving bad comments why can’t we be positive? Let us suggest instead of what was do we think would help.
Philippine Team joins in Jones Cup for team objectives alone and not for the title for your info. But of course winning includes there. Lot of our players shone on those games, but I don’t see they didn’t use their hearts every time they played there. We’re always talking of hearts don’t you realize the efforts they made? 3x a day practice, apart from their love ones, and what do you think James Yap? James sacrifice his romance and his newly born son in exchanged for the country for a while.. and what he earned? Injury! Did he show disappointment? No because he feels that he did that for us FILIPINOS and what we respond to them our critics. Criticize - I think this need of medication need major surgery those did not help instead criticizing and criticized why not MOVE the talk? To the PHILIPPINE TEAM: What the team needs to address is the finishing touch, the consistency in defense, grabbing the boards and manages turn over and I’m sure we will see Philippine Team playing in Beijing. Have FAITH Filipinos…

I agree with Chino, every game should be played seriously regardless who the opponent would be. Losses from Lebanon, Japan and Kasakhstan are unexcusable. Tall players are vulnerable as we saw in the early days where Jaworski, Ocampo, etc mindsets their tall opponents in boxing them out of the shaded lane everytime the ball goes up. Dennis Still was the tallest at 6'9" during the Jones Cup of 85 and yet were able to dominate inside against taller players and eventually won the trophy against USA. Our players now should condition their minds on blocking the path of tall or any opponents everytime the ball goes up i.e. box-out, avoiding your opponents turning garbage into gold or avoid them having offensive rebounds.

To Mr. Chino;
I agree with your comments and the inconsistencies in the focus of our players are very evident. We can also say that they are overconfident thats why they loose their games against Japan and Kazakhztan. I think whatever the outcome, the result of the our team's performace is still acceptable considering that we had done nothing internatinally in the past two years because of the FIBA suspension. Its a good start but we need more than enough. Another observation is that our team overdo the three point shooting. Its undeniable that beacuse of this we were able to catch up with our opponents but, later it became so predictable that the team were limited from penetrating the basket, thru strong drive / cuts / post up plays. Mark Caguioa did a lot of impresive plays but this cannot be regarded as team play because the team relied so much on him on offense. Most of the time the basketball only rest with the hands of Alapag and then to Caguioa taking it all to the basket. There is actually limited ball rotation therefore converging the opponent's defence to only one / two person of our team. The team also failed to maximize the role of Ritualo not only in Jones Cup but also in the previous tournaments they engaged in (even Ritualo and Coach Chot admitted this (and off course they knows best. I think the purpose of Ritualo's inclusion is his extraordinary shooting ability (only), but what is the reason behind of benching him. If he will not be allowed to serve his purpose because of his limited role, then why not replace him with players who are much taller and can do multiple roles including outside shooting. I think most of the team players are capable of shooting from the outside and can make up Ritualo's exclusion. And again defense, our team is not that torrid when it comes to this department. They just ignore the opponent's big guys that made surprises from the outside. Whoever holds the ball, whoever the opponent, I think our players should give them irritating defense. We should also atleast emphasize our presence inside in terms of rebounds. Although the team is short in height, they can help each other in gambling the ball. Dont let Asi Taulava doing the job alone, he is really in need of help. Thanks. Allan Ibasco kung merong dapat baguhin eh yung mga ugali natin sa pgcomment.. kulang nalang batuhin ng kamatis ang buong NT eh.. sana kung magcocomment tayu ung balance lang.. and the most important we can contribute to the NT is a great encouragement para sa NT.. kahiya tayo.. parang mga walang alam sa buhay.. peace..

hey ballers,
correct ka dyan Mr. Chino...you know nman na walang pupuntahan ang team pinas sa japan... sa asian ranking, we're probably 5th, 6th or 7th. kahit anong practice natin, kahit anong sacrificio ng mga players natin, sa kangkungan sila pupulutin.. Im talking about talent ha...., so kun mababa na un talent, wala pang puso to play the game, wala talaga.. pero kahit baliktarin, may puso walng talent, wala pa rin diba?!!!hehe... swerte lan tlaga pagasa natin, c Danny S pagasa natin manalo, we need to take advantage of what we have, which is run,run,run... later

THE TEAM PINAS PERFORMANCE IN JONES CUP HAD ITS +'s AND -'s BUT BETTER GIVE THEM THE TRUST THAT THEY JUST PLAY STRATEGICALLY IN THAT TOURNAMENT IN PREPARATION FOR BIGGER TARGET. SAYING THAT LET'S GIVE OUR SUPPORT TO THEM AND RESERVE OUR FINAL JUDGEMENT. TO YOU MR. CHINO YOUR DOING A VERY GOOD JOB ALSO...KEEP ON WRITING AND JUST IGNORE THOSE "BAKLANG CRITICS". Mr. Chino Trinidad,
I truly agree on what you said. The so-called "Major surgery" you're implying simply means that they need to change their attitude towards the games itself. The last time I saw the RP national team proved it's true worth was with the Centennial Team. We won against Kazakhstan in that Bronze Medal game. Thanks to the heroics of Jojo Lastimosa and Andy Seigle. We still have a couple of weeks to go, I think that the players on their last game at the 29th Jones Cup were not inspired to play because of the fact that they will end up in 3rd place whether they win or not. We must instill the never-say-die spirit amongst the chosen members of our National Team. Good luck and More power!

After practicing 2 times a day, leave their love ones here in the philippines to represent their self to our country. Do you think that is not a good attitude? C'Mon!!! Give then NT team a break. Napapagod din sila.
We are not the best team in the asia. 5-4 w-l record is not bad. Beating Qatar and Iran is a good sign. Kung may nakikita kayong weakness ng team, you can ask Coach Chot about that. Hindi yung mag sasalita ka lang dyan. Do you think na makakadag dag ba yan sa moral ng NT? Nilulubog mo lang sila eh.

Hi Chino, para lang maiba but still related to team Philippines. At your calibre, alam mo na eto but need to stress is out to our Basketball Officials. I have written one article, in a website blog, our problems in Philippine basketball starts in schools/amatuers, just wondering up to now why our school leagues are still divided, i.e.NCAA, UAAP, MUCAA, etc. In my article, I critized "the battle of champions" where the top 4 only from both leagues (NCAA vs UAAP) battle it out like a minor league. Why not all the schools in Metro Manila and provinces battle it out with one major title, that goes also to all sports. Abolish these existing leagues then unite into one. In this way we will be able to find the best athletes in the land and future national team for the Asiad or Olympics.
My only concern here probably is the schools from Visayas, Mindanao and remote areas in Luzon on the food, travel and other expenses they need. Its a dream, all schools in one venue/league and probably discover tall players that need training while still young. The culprit is also technology in someway. I said this because I witness teenagers that are 6 footers but prefer to play computer games instead of physical games. We have to build up programs that will make them interested in sports. I convince my kids, 12(girl) and 7(boy) to play basketball, tennis & badminton which they are now, but gameboy, playstations are an obstacle. Thanks and more power

not to take away from these guys, they're working hard and they did volunteer and donate their time for the country and all that is appreciated. the problem here, correct me if I'm wrong, is the motivation. or the lack of it, for the competition anyway. these guys are paid millions by their corporate ballclubs so and not the country. while they will play ball it won't be as much as they can since they have to protect their investments. themselves. imagine getting a career ending injury playing for the country? i seriously doubt if the gov't will compensate them for their troubles. if they get injured playing for their clubs is of course another story. good call mr. trinidad.

Hey guys,
Don't worry. We are not playing at our full potential yet. I guess we're just giving 20% of our effort. We don't want to see them how good we are. Just wait until we played for the real game and you might be surprise. To give you some clue on how good we are, we already beat Spain by 10 pts, Argentina by 15 pts, Greece by 5 pts, France by 8 pts and Germany by 9 pts. These are via secret practice so that team china will never know. Now, cheer up. Don't worry, China will have no chance against us and in olympics, I predict we will be the team to beat.

What is good about the Jones performance? Its a learning process, its better for the team to learn their mistakes now rather than have it in Japan. The bottom line is, every critism, comments in this thread should be noted and taken it seriously by the team, wag ma offend yung mga nag disagree sa article ni Chino.
Go Chot and the boys, kaya niyo yan Hello Mr. Trinidad,
When I watched the games of our team pilipinas what i observed is that the team still lacks mental preparations because all the loses we absorbed during the jones cup is all mental lapses... Specially Kirby and don2 the way they play is a sub par performance... One more thing is that they have to practice more on their free throws all of the players ... We are all going to lose close game just because of free throws!!! But with all my hearth I am going to support team pilipinas all the way... Mabuhay pilipinas!!! Laban Hanggang Katapusan... Paul

Let's not judge the National Team this harsh...
They showed they can win, and showed they can lose once they relax. It's not easy to practice 3 times a day for at least 5 days a week, it takes toll physically. I was able to watch the last game against Kazakhstan, yes at times they were lazy and they committed errors defensively, but let's consider this, they played 9 straight games, most of which were hard fought. They are still a work in progress, but who are we to judge their character? everyone that is involved with the National Team have given (*sacrifices*) to train, play and perform every chance they get. Hindi madali ang ginagawa nila, I played college ball, we practiced 2 times a day 4 times a week. The players and coaches personal lives had to be put to hold just for this endeavor. Let's give them a chance. They know what they have to do.... (*they aren't playing for themselves*) Each and everyone of us had dreams of someday playing in the Olympics, Championship Games, kahit sa liga man lang diba?

mr.chino is right.. theres a lack of mental toughness... pero diba nga this is just the stepping stone of coach chot reyes 4 year program?? of course before we achieve our main goal.. marami tyo problema na pagdadaanan and as we experience those obstacles we should make proper actions to correct at malampasan sila... sabi nga ni coach chot jones cup is still a part of the learning process before going to japan.. but i also want to have changes in our current roster.. i think we should have 1 or 2 guys who has experience and has the heart to lead the team.. like racela... i know some of our guys played with him at the heart breaking loss last BUSAN ASIAN games... another thing... we also need defense... i recommend coach yeng to be on our coaching staff.. and think about ritualy.. who is questioned on his defense... i also think hes not consistent with his offense.. hes just a shooter. pero kapag sineswerte.. we need consistent man like james yap who has defense and also has the height..

I think Chino Trinidad is just making his observation on the attitude of most of the National players. Hindi naman siguro nilalahat. I do share the same observation. Make it a formal talk or seminar. As a player, you may get the chance to play for the country siguro at most three (3) times. Yung iba nga isang beses lang, kasi there are better players coming around. Iilang games lang naman ito at 40 minutes per game, so sana put your hearts out whenever you play. Go Team Pilipinas!

"Many of our current National Team players take many things for granted as evidenced by our losses to Lebanon, Japan and that humiliating loss to Kazakhstan, which highlighted the lack of a proper mindset of the team."
--- Chino Trinidad You know what Mr. Trinidad, I suggest you judge the national team after the Tokushima joust, not before they plunge onto it.You boost their morale as their countryman, not the other way around. But as Voltaire once put it, "I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to death your right to say it".Tutal karapatan mo naman talaga mag-express as a journalist...Ang hirap sa atin kasing mga Filipino, laging may lumalabas na genius sa ganitong sitwasyon. You think Coach Chot likes what transpired with those four losses at the Jones Cup? He was human enough to accept his mistakes, do you read the sports articles? I am already based in the US but deep in my heart, RP brand of basketball pa rin ang hanap ko.From my Molave dorm days in UP Diliman, we watched how the then-Centennial Team won the Jones Cup in 1998 before they were bludgeoned in Busan. That was painful but it presented life as it is.But we must learn from those experiences and I hope Coach Reyes has that in mind. For Team Philippines , tiis lang for the glory of the country. For my fave player Danny Seigle who didn't see action during the 2002 Asian Games because of injury, now is the time to showcase what you got.And for Chot Reyes, show your countrymen you are truly the deserving "national" coach. May God bless us all.

Pag nanalo naman aaminin nyo kaya sa sarili nyo na you didn't believe in them when they were losing?
Mr. Trinidad is right, The BOYS need to have a major Surgery, a specialist who can simply do operation the "illness" of the Players. How about the style of Robert Jaworski or Ron Jacob who build well motivated and disciplined players like Hector Calma,Alla Caidic, Elmer Reyes,Yves Dignadice, France Pumaren, the three naturalized Filipino, etc. Dear Mr. Trinidad,
I understand exactly how you feel about the team. In the last Asian Games, I was in high spirit until Danny Seigle got injured followed by the painful loss to Korea. From then on I was an advocate of "forget basketball movement". Then the FIBA ban was lifted and this present team was formed. Slowly, I bagin to see a glimmer of hope. Let us give them the benefit of the doubt. I think announcing the official team members will solve the problem. This is the reason very few of them are consistent especially if a player sees any form of favoritism or 'padrino' system rearing its ugly head. Remember, Coach Reyes handles a PBA team and San Miguel is attached to the team's name. I had national player friends before who confirmed to me about the 'palakasan' in the selection. So if the team is formed officially as early as now then the problem is solved. Mark Caguioa and Jimmy Alapag are players I call 'suicide players'. The kind of people who would die for their country. Coach Chot start from them please. To me this is our last hurrah. Thank you!

And Guys, Let's face the Fact that Basketball is not the sport we can be Supreme of, lets just leave and wait what this new set of players can give us. Both Coach and Players or forsure doing their BEST to achieve what every Filipino wants a re-entry to Olympics. Lets not put pressure on them, lets pray. And Guys, their so much sports we can be supreme of ... bowling, billiards, boxings and our national sport SIPA!

To all of you bloggers:
We have all given our positive, negative comments, suggestions, criticisms etc. the question is after all these tournaments wat will happen to our national team? Yes balik uli sa PBA, balik sa dating gawi and worry the next problem as it comes. In my own opinion wat ever happen sa Fiba the PBA as well as the management of sport in our country should have continuity , consistency and heart to see to it that the programs of the national team will continue, tuloy tuloy , anyway every year we have international competition. that is the time you can do major surgey. Recruit young blood from UAAP and NCAA, training and international exposure. Come to think of, it is our own attitude that need a major surgery. PIlipino nga tayo!!!!

Team Pilipinas losses to those teams where really bad ones. They tend to slack-off at the end of games. There is still time to correct that. I think the mix of players that play our already the best we can get. In fact if you take a close look i belive that these guys have worked hard to be in their best shape ever, Thanks to Dennis, the conditioning coach of the team. An expample would be Asi T. You never see him run up and down the court in the PBA the way he does now. There just needs to be that killer instinct when it comes out to closing out games. We are a team loaded with guards and speed is our advantage, so why not use it and get to the Olyimpics for the first time since 1972.

On the issue of importing players, before we can say that we have enough pool of players that can compete internationally, we first need to address our local sports programs. Im sure there are many talented atheletes there that can one day make it to the big leagues, however we still lack the proper program to address this. Look at Mark Caguioa, Pure Pinoy, Pango, but where did he hone his game? US?, and now hes probably the best player in the RP team. In Football, there are a lot of good football players here, but what? we lack the proper training and the proper nutrition to be competitive internationally. We started winning in football when these 2 younghusbands joinned? dont take it away from our Fil-Players, they may just be talanted and willing to help thats why they play here. I would beleive that the 2 younghusbands dont get paid the way they do in England for playing in our national team?.

in my opinion Mr. Chino is right, i definitely agree on what he said about our current National Team. We should face the truth that some of our players were not so eager to perform well, ofcourse we have the talents, but what is important is the heart of every player in our team. We cant always rely to our individual skills but also in our team effort and discipline. We should not take for granted all the small things that we can deliver in the game in order for us to improve and be more competitive. Lets just temporarily conceal all the unnecessary things that will not probably help our team to bring home the bacon.
But in the contrary we should appreciate all the hardworks of the team just to give our flag an achievement to be proud of. Gudluck Team RP

Maybe it takes years of preparation to win an intenational championship. The government must help in funding, to have a dedicated and intact team to represent us in international competetions.
But still, our prayers and support for the Philippine team. Go! Team Pilipinas!! GoodLuck

the RP National Team has an awesome offensive firepower. I particularly like our snipers from the outside namely Ritualo, Hontiveros, Alapag. They could really burn the hoops and outrun their guards.Grabe ang shooting nila.Kaya lang medyo mahina ang depensa ng RP Team pati sa rebounding.I noticed that during their Jones Cup stint and in the on-going Invitationals. They tend to relax pag medyo malaki na ang lamang nila.Dapat sana kahit ganun, they should keep the pressure on their opponents, no letting-up on defense.dapat no mercy sa depensa hanggang matapos ang laro.defense would win us games. To all RP national team members and staff, we believe in you...kayang kaya nyo yan!!! OF THE 12 ORIGINAL ROSTER LINE-UP OF TEAM PILIPINAS, WE HAVE SEEN ALL THE PLAYERS PLAY AND THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN THEIR CHANCE TO PROVE THEIR WORTH. ALAPAG, CAGUIOA, NORWOOD, TAULAVA, HELTERBRAND, HONTIVEROS, SIEGLE, RAYMUNDO, PENNISI, RITUALO, DE OCAMPO, AND DELA CRUZ.
ALL ARE DOING WELL EXCEPT FOR SOME, WHO CAN BE RELEGATED TO THE RESERVE LIST. TONY DELA CRUZ - JAY WILLIAMS IS A BETTER CHOICE, A REAL THREAT IN OFFENSE AND DEFENSE. RANIDEL DE OCAMPO - A GOOD PLAYER BUT HARDLY A FACTOR. CAN'T CONTRIBUTE WELL IN OFFENSE AND A STEP LATE IN DEFENSE. JAY WASHINGTON IS A GOOD SUBSTITUTE. RENREN RITUALO - HE MAY BE A GREAT 3 POINT SHOOTER BUT HE LACKS THE VERSATILITY IN OFFENSE AND A LIABILITY IN DEFENSE . RONALD TUBID, THE FEARLESS,SURELY CAN TAKE HIS SPOT. THE ENERGY HE WILL BRING ON THE TEAM WILL BE TREMENDEOUS. AS FOR THE REMAINING PLAYERS, ERIC MENK HAS SLOWED DOWN IN OFFENSE AND DEFENSE, JAMES YAP IS INJURED AND KG CANALETA MAY BE TAP IN THE FUTURE RP TEAM.

Jojie you have the point but let’s put it nicely by going back to the early years. 1972 was our last appearance in the Olympics, there was no PBA that time. 1975 was the birth of PBA formatted after the NBA; this signaled a breakaway from international competitiveness and left Puyat alone to supervise international participation.
From this point, our Olympic dreams have banished "completely" and our last major international competition was the World Basketball in 1978 being an automatic qualifier by virtue of hosting the venue. As years go by, PBA has become a channel for commercial companies. Millions of money has been invested, player salaries have gone up significantly and income earned thru sales, TV rights and endorsements were divided to teams and players. My point here, you may be right in a short point of view but not profoundly. To all players, PBA has become a source of income and personally, I have nothing against it because they have the right to live and survive their families. However, it’s not yet over, PBA has realized it setbacks already (thanks also to SBP for getting their heads together for lifting the FIBA suspension) and now starting to have its program. Starting somewhere like adjusting to FIBA rules and familiarizing international type of play are positive signals for future Philippine Basketball. Probably we may or may not realize the results of this program this coming Olympics (according to Chot were 85% ready now) but definitely in 2010 Asiad, 2011 FIBA qualifying and 2012 Olympics we will be an Asian power alongside China if PBA will continue its programs, financially and physically, for international basketball.

When the RP Team beat the US Team during the Jones Cup in Tawan, I told my american friend rightaway about how the game came about. I felt the pride of telling him that the Filipinos can play basketball. And not only that, we play with pride.
Mr. Chino is right in the way the RP Team were beaten by Japan, Lebanon, and Kazakhstan. We had a great chance of winning but over-confidence and lack of focus in crucial games prevented their quest for winning the game. Many of us here abroad are keeping track of RP Team. Go go go RP Team. This is one of the ways we could show the world the we Filipinos or Fil-Ams can play basketball. Take pride of winning. Share the millions you earned for being a basketball pro, which almost all kids aspire, by giving us happiness and pride of ourselves through this basketball game that we all love. I'm here in Gainesville Florida, the home of Florida Gators, that won back-to-back collegiate basketball championships(2006-2007. We are all so proud here that we reside in this champion city. we all need those losses and we thank japan, kazhakstan and china, etal for teaching us a lesson this early... winning time is in japan and what we have seen now in general is liking our chances. chot, jong amd other coaching staff have done wonders to our RP Team. We thank the PBA, SMC & MVP for sacrificing a lot for our country. We thank all the players for taking all the pains with all these criticisms but i think they all need these critics. We are too small but look at the respect we have shown to other teams. Olympics is attainable for people who believe...win or lose, we are on the right track this time or next olympics because we have just started on our program....A mix of pinoys and fil-ams, fil-etc is the only way....we have to accept the new pinoy..a mixed race...

the beauty of the job we have is that we are allowed accesss into our subjects.so i made sure i get to see the national team in action and spend a little time with the coaches and the players...
though we won the 4-nation tournament..there is much work to be done.. coach chot reyes and mark caguioa shared the same sentiment that the team needs to develop its "KILLER INSTINCT" especially in closing games. but coach chot says he likes the progres of the team and they're targetting to hit 100% peak form in two weeks time. jimmy alapag, who has been a revelation since the jones cup impressed me with his big fighting heart. i have to say alapag is the heart and soul of our national team.where jimmy goes;we go! gusto ko yun puso ni jimmy when he plays.and after receiving the mvp award he said:WHATEVER IT TAKES!WE WILL SURELY BE OUTSIZED.WE WILL JUST HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND PLAY WITH A LOT OF HEART! this is the kind of attitude that we have been challenging our national team to display in their games... a change of heart is what the team needed.it had to believe it can win against the very best in asia. and this is what i was referring to as:THE MAJOR SURGERY THE TEAM NEEDED! PEACE...

i will bet my left nut that the NT with all their "firepower" and "skill" will lose.. get a team of ballers from the courts in jersey or l.a or anywhere else for that matter and they will still wax the pinoy team.. thats just how it is going to be... short legs and poor skills will always be what pinoy players be known for. and the almost comedic "porma".. you will never be the winners of the old days.. just get over it.. that was years ago.. never happen again.. remember when the teachers in elementary always say that the philippines was the most educated country in south east asia?? well, look at the grammar and spelling and the sentence construction of the people that blog here.. stupid little monkeys.

SOMETIMES I BEGIN TO THINK ALL THIS TRASH TALK BETWEEN INGLISEROS AND BASKETBOLISTAS SERVE NOTHING BETTER THAT TO SHOWCASE ONE'S ABILITY OVER ANOTHER'S INCAPACITY. WOULD IT DO JUSTICE TO OPINE THAT IF YOU'RE PINOY, STAY AWAY FROM BASKETBALL AND ENGLISH BECAUSE YOU WON'T EXCEL IN BOTH? I HOPE YOU'RE NOT INTO THIS JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE FEELING 3 SHEETS TO THE WIND. Opinyon niya yun kaya may karapatan siya but at least he have moral obligation kahit di na sa mga players or sa mga fans but sa family ng mga players na nagsakripisyo duon. We can't always expect the best for the RP team. Dyan tayo magaling eh magngangawa sa panghihiya dapat higit pa natin i encourage ang mga players to give their best kasi di naman ma iimpose sa kanila na dapat i take nila yun as a challenge. Kahit saan mo tignan masasakit yang mga binitawan niyang salita.
Di niya dapat din i dahilan na sarili niyang opinyon yun kaya wala tayo paki alam, being a sportman himself( if he is) dapat marunong siyang magkonsedira ng nararamdaman ng iba.

After 9 games and another 5 here in Manila, my observations:
1. We need to maximize our quickness and speed by applying full court pressure defense, we didnt show that at all. I would think that is the key in neutralizing the bigger teams. Khatib was having his way with Raymundo in the 3rd quarter but we werent making the adjustments like trapping him at midcourt near the midcourt line. Lebanon just relied on Vogel and Khatib all night so they became predictable in the 4th quarter, Lebanon is an easier game to coach, lets concentrate on scouting Jordan and Iran for the next 2 weeks, both tall teams. 2.Asi Taulava should have an inside game, this will be too predictable if everytime he gets an offensive rebound, he is not even looking to shoot, he nids to learn some post moves, try to look at past tapes of Adrian Dantley and Mark Aguirre, both 6'5 players but who has some post moves that are hard to cover by bigger players. 3. Eric Menk needs more touches when he shoots that mid range jumper. Mark Caguioa and jimmy Alapag are the only guys that are driving hard to the basket they will get by once in a while but Mark needs to be able to play like Lebron James and Asi needs to roll like Andersen Varejao. Bottomline, we need more inside offensive presence.

So much for the comments,
Here is my prediction for the final 12 man line up: 1st five: Alapag Cagioua Hontiveros Williams Taulava 2nd five: Norwood Ritualo Siegel Raymundo Pennisi Menk De la cruz Reserve: Helterbrand Yap De Ocampo I put helterbrand on the reserve list because he has an injury, and he is not performing well recently, however the fast and the furious will not be complete with out jayjay, hopeful pa rin ako that he will be included. James yap as well is not in tip top condition, because of injury and he just recently join the team. No time for adjustment. Mawawala lang sya sa play. On the part of De ocampo, he is not really performing to wat he is expected to do for the team. I think it is logical that he is on the reserve list na lang muna.

My observations in our loss to Kazakhstan:
Same reason why US loss to Italy in a game played before the Olympics. We failed to defend the Center who shot threes.. Asi can't defend the 6'10 3pt shooter at the 3 pt. line and our guards are too short to defend some one that tall. Definitely Team China and the rest have big men who could shoot the 3. So how do we solve that problem?

itong comment ko doesnt have to do with commish chino's blog.. i just want to comment about the chinese coach's criticism.. na 'WALANG TEAMWORK' ang team natin.. do you accept that guyz?? that is an act of not becoming a gentleman... wala xa sa teritoryo nya para sabihn ung ganun.. i mean ayus lang mag comment.. pero wag lang below the belt.,. pede nya sabihn un after ng FIBA.. ksi dun talaga ang laban.. hindi sa mga ganitong tournament... this games are just part of the preparation.. anyways.. i want to thank him.. for saying that. kc bingyan nya ng isa pang malaking reason ang team para manalo at ipahiya ang china sa FIBA-ASIA.. regarding to commish chino's blog... siguro un ang hinihintay mong major surgery.. kc that probably boost the moral of our players.. sigurado nag iinit yan sa mga sinabi ng coach na un.. they wont take a comment like that as a criticism but they must take it as a challenge,!!! chinese team coach's comment should be taken in a positive sense. He did say that it was not for him to comment or to criticize another coach..that was i think in an article in Manila Times or Manila Standard. If our opponents decide to play us 1 on 1 like what Taiwan did, we will have the advantage with our individual offensive skills (we beat taiwan by 18 pts)but Kazakhstan did not play us 1 on 1 and their zone defense was harder to penetrate because their players were much taller and longer.. if we had good teamwork like the chinese coach pointed out. we can beat the zone. The chinese coach did us a favor by pointing out this area where we need work.

RP Team is just playing well, talagang LUCKY lang o swerte ang ibang team dahil napapasok yung mga last shot kaya tayo natalo.
But looking forward with the development of the team CONSISTENCY na lang actually ang kailangan madevelop, we don't need no more major surgeries, when the guys are healthy they can fairly match with this guys of Chinese, Lebanese and Koreans. Based on my observation and study this RP TEAM will be a 3-0 on Group A ahead of China and Jordan. Goodluck team Pilipinas!

I think TEAM PILIPINAS are now 90% ready to go to BATTLE at Tokushima, we are just nursing some injured player but if Danny Seigle would be healthy, I think we have a good chance of toppling China, Jordan and Iran at Group of Death.
We have a POWERHOUSE set of players at our team, and with those close lost at Lebanese, Japan and China, I think it's enough for the TEAM with the coaching staff to protect a BIG lead the next time they played. Maybe what Chino have said was really a not sound to ear to be hear, but for our players to be boosted more they also need those TRASH TALKS for them to be more HUNGRY for the GOLD!

I think everybody has a chance. The only way to know if they will succeed in Tokushima is to give them a chance. I have watched several games of our RP Team and have seen them winning and losing. It seems that in every game they played there are revelations and positive results. I think the players are now improving and playing as a team. I think we should stop judging them and give them a chance.

I don't want to judge the RP5 right now. But I think they're still in a growing process, our team has a great chance in making the Olympics. We been out for a very long time in the Asian basketball scene, but I'm quit satisfied on what they achieved so far, considering the very short preparation. Hope all of us will support the squad. Win or loss still proud to be a Filipino. God speed all!

lack of effort?!? I dare you...tell that to Asi Taulava, tell that to Mark Caguioa, tell that to Kerby Raymundo, tell that to Jimmy Alapag! Alam mo ba ang routine ng national team for the past 2 weeks? Practice sa umaga, training shortly after, game sa hapon, nuod ng tapes sa gabi... and through that time, malayo sila sa pamilya nila (figuratively and literally), at sa kabila nuon tatanggap sila ng batikos mula sa mga katulad nyo. I don't think you have the foggiest idea of what you are talking about.

Dear Chino,
Whoever may compose the final 12 of the Philippine National team to do battle in Tokushima, Japan should be reminded by the acronym that Chot coined on Game 7 of the PBA championship series when he steered Purefoods to a PBA title (I think against San Miguel)- (*D.I.E.*) for "Dedication, Intensity and Effort". I know the past tournaments where meant to both scout the opposing teams and solidify the national team but there where very obvious lapses that still needs to be addressed. The most obvious would be the team's free-throw shooting, our poor shooting from the stripes cost us a lot. Next would be the team's playing consistency - I don't know why our team grows cold after every break - we can't even maintain our lead in every game. Another area that I need to see improvement is the minimization of errors in every game as well as converting the opposing team's error into game winning baskets. Also the national team has yet to show its attitude in overcoming the opposing team's lead and winning. As regards defense and offensive patterns, I think the coaching staff have their game strategies ready. But what would make these strategies more awesome is if they would exhibit "D.I.E". Thank you.

"Guys just want to share this fact, it may not be as relevant but these are the things that usually helps you to evaluate the toughness of your national team.
Just yesterday, Serbia-U20 national team bagged the U20 World Championship against the powerhouse-future NBA stars USA-U20 86-76. Almost simultaneously, from a nearby fellow European country, the Montenegro-U20 national team won the U20 European basketball title over Germany. Before going to their respective major tournaments, the U20-Montenegro vs U20-Serbia national teams played two tune up games in Serbia (the same date when the RP team was in Serbia) which was won both by Montenegro U20 via close margins. What I am trying to say here is that the SMC-RPteam beat the Montenegro U20 national team in Serbia in a dominating score of 99-85. This is the same Montenegro U20 team that beat the Serbia-U20 I mentioned above that won the recent U20 World Championships over the USA. What is my point? The point is when we played the Japan-U20 players in the Jones Cup, some Filipino quarters were torturing the national team branding them as hopeless, yet these people simply do not know how to distinguish an apple from a mango in basketball. Japan is too far a world-calibre in any youth basketball wars, we loss because we played below our level but within the Japanese level. Yes, we loss in the end due to poor decision-making, but such loss won't give me sleepless nights. We were too cautious palying Japan because we wont' gain anything from them but only to be scouted by the their Japanese senior national team watching back home in Tokyo. See guys the strenght of this RPTeam, not an acaccurate gauge but you have the facts that no youth team in the planet can easily breeze past over the current Team Pilipinas. And this include China which will parade a predominantly young team in Tokushima. China will be reinforced by some of their seniors but just the same, their top guns are their youth ones(below 23)." -from Jawo of pacland (sori ser, di na ako nagpaalam sa inyo, para naman sa bayan to eh)

actually i think the tournament that your talking about is under 19. In the states and some europian countries, 23 and up is the start of their prime. USA lost because in europe, you can start playing PROball at the age of 15, so they have gained experince. americans are not allowed to play commercial leagues cause of the NCAA sanction. at 15 their still balling junior varsity.
you have a point that we can and infact should beat those young teams that we are playing in japan because of the PRO experince that our NT has. and damn their in their late 20's.... overall, its sad, it shows how we're so behind in the game of basketball, that we are so crazy about....PEACE

it's another loss for RP Team and coach reyes is once again blaming the refs. the refs contributed to our loss alright but if you watch the game again, they are also generous in calling the fouls on iran with the driving kerby raymundo.
but what was i think was very evident is the coach's fault of choosing renren ritualo over james yap. you see, the no. 2 spot was missing. siegle got injured (as usual), mark caguioa graduated again (lacks good judgment in committing useless fouls) and gabe norwood (also graduated with five fouls which can be attributed with inexperience). could have been james in the line up and because of his experience and defense in the back court, it would have been a different result. the guy is good in trapping defense unlike ritualo who commits two successive fouls in the end of fourth quarter which results in free throws of the opponent. as i have said before, the guy can't play defense.now where are those 3's your talking about? renren is scoreless in the entire ballgame. furthermore, james and kerby could have played together because they know each other well being in purefood's team. again, kudos to all of you who favored renren over james. a very wise decision indeed!

Chino,
your absolutely right about our team. Attitude killed us last night. Last night was a game of death for the Rp team ang burol today china and tomorrow ang libing jordan. Coach chot was simply out coach. It is your fault coach.... you should be the one to be lock up on your room and concentrate.

Dear Mr. Trinidad,
I am sure you want Team Pilipinas to win as much games in the 24th FIBA Asia. As i listen to your comments in your live telecast of the games, i seldom think if you are really cheering our team or trying to critique the things that are happening. I suggest that criticising the team should stop, even in your live coverages because it only affects the Filipino People. Saying stuff like "Kelly should have done this, Mark should have done that" only belittles the hardwork that the team has put up over the last few months. Of course they know better because they are the ones on the court not me and defenitely not you. I value your opinion but please....put it in your columns not on TV during the games, we are on the same side Mr. Trinidad. The FILIPINO people would appreciate it more if you cheered the team during the games. If they do commit mistakes in the game, you are entitled to your opinion in your column/s, your job as a tv commentator should only describe the play by play action as it happens. If you are not going to say something good about the team then you better quit being an anchor and just put up your own basketball clinic, you may be better at critisizing than giving a morale boost. Again i know you want Team Pilipinas to win. People listen to you Mr. Trinidad, maybe you can use your influence to make sure the Filipino people appreciate the hardwork of the Team by making sure that if we WIN or lose, the team tried, then they should go back with heads high and planning for the next stint. Thanks!

To Sir Chino Trnidad,
Your criticisms espcially when the team is down / individual players are not playing well does not really help. Its very destructive especially to us viewers. It seems like you want are baming someone / them all pag may nagkakamali. Sometimes I feel the same in such situations pero not to the point of blaming. This is a basic attitude in a team sir chino trinidad. Tao lang sila at nagkakamali at dapat walang sisihan. Are you really with us? or you are just there to make news / issues you walk to talk about. You can criticize but make sure that this can contribute to the team's development and not to dampen their / even the viewer's spirits. Constructive criticism Mr. Trinidad, may be you know that. Try to make some difference in your comments para hindi ka maituring na kabilang sa mga Media People / Showbiz Talk Show Hosts na halos ang alam lang e gumawa ng headline para makilala at kumita. Commisioner ka pa naman, paano na kaya kung yung PBL team na syang magrerepresent sa SEA Games ang matalo, are you ging to do the same considering that you're the leader? No offense Mr. Chino. I still believe in our national team because there are some players who played with their heart like Alapag, Raymundo and Caguiao. Other members of the national team are not really true pinoy thats why they dont have the pride, the heart to win. They just feel proud to be in the team. feeling superstar pa rin kase ang mga players natin na member ng national team. Tsaka yung level ng competition kase as PBA is not like the level of competition pag nasa labas ka na ng bansa. Iba rin mindsetting nila. Unlike before, the team of Patrimonio and others, most of them are true pinoy who played with all their hearts kaya kahit maliliit lang sila, naka 2nd place pa sila.
In the games versus Iran and China, Alapag and Raymundo is stepping up, makikita nyo how they play. Sana walang halong takot kase lahat naman sila can shoot the ball, ang problema lang pag naunahan ng kaba. High praise to Raymundo, keep up the good work. We are excited to see u again play at PBA. Good luck to our Team Philippines.

For the benefit of the others, it was not Chot who caused the Technical Foul, it was Caguio..
Makitid utak, kahit sino pa ung natechnical dun, ok lang lang same result nmn eh. I still don't believe right in the first start na si Chot ang hahawak sa national team. ang daming maling judgement. Also I don't believe in the fast and the furious. I'd rather call them the fast and the stupid. Get over it kups.

A slap on a face for Chot. Not a good decision when Chot Reyes pulled off from the bench Ritualo and then get him out of the court by not even reaching 1 minute. He never trusted Ritualo eversince. What's the point in getting Ritualo for the 12 man line up for Team Pilipinas. He put much trust on Caguioa though made a lot of errors. As i have noticed Alapag during the first never had a lot of minutes. Instead, Helterbrand was used. Though good performance for Caguioa and Helterbrand, i've noticed more 1 on 1 play from them. Oops..sorry mali pala dribbling performance ginawa nila. Puro dribol puro dribol. They didn't take their advantage in 3 point shooting which we saw during Jones Cup. No set plays for 3 point shooters. Not much of a play. He even pulled Kelly Williams out on the last minutes of the game. I could still remember when he took a technical foul during the game between Iran and Philippines.I still have much to say but I'll end up saying "what a coach"! no offense...Maybe thinking much of a pressure that's why it happened Coach Chot...If I may be the coach I would also feel what you feel...But in this situation, your a coach and not me...it's not an excuse. It's a learning experience again and again for more than 2 decades for the Philippine Basketball. Oops...that all..I said I'll end up. So be it.

We are very sorry for the loss in the Beijing qualifying tournament, although we have a very talented lineup, but the use of their talent and role was not properly utilized. For example renren ritualo must have used by Coach Chot Reyes for a better outside shooting so that can establish quickly a big lead over opponents such jordan and iran.
Maybe the coaching staff is really held responsible with this drastic loss, that will lead us to another 4 years of preparation to meet that perfect combination and equation to reach olympic berth on 2012 olympics at Russia.

So its finished - we are not going to the Beijing Olympics. What happened to our National Team is a just rude awakening for SBP and all the stakeholders involved that we need to improve our basketball in order to compete internationally. This tournament that we decided to participate in is what we call "THE BASKETBALL COMPETITION" that all basketball players and coaches from Asia look forward to. This is where every team from Asia play "SERIOUS" basketball. What we all saw in national TV is the best of Asia's basketball. So we lost, but we lost to stronger teams, we should all accept that. And with this I commend Chot for focusing on this event rather than just settling for the ASIAD. This is the Philippines' strongest delegation to this event, since FIBA allowed professional players to represent the National team. Now we've seen how our neighbors in Asia play - then I think we should broaden our horizon than just looking at China and South Korea. Also, a challenge to the SBP - are we competing for the qualifiers for the 2012 Olympics or are we chickening out and settle only for the ASIAD. What now? Thanks.

The NT has been relying too much on lucky breaks and 1 on 1 plays instead of precise offensive plays & hard defense.
SBP should now work on to new programs after this FIBA season, lets move forward and prepare for the coming Asian tourneys. Hire an international coach preferably a Serbian or another 'Ron Jacobs.' Lets face it now, our coaches are not familiar and have no experience in a FIBA type of game even PBA teams should hire a seasoned international FIBA coaches to change our PBA from 'NBA look alike' to FIBA type of plays. We should invest on this until we familiarize the FIBA style of play, including adjustments on the offciating, no. of fouls to 5, shorten the 3 point zone, etc.... and to condition our minds that PBA is not the NBA of Asia.

the problem with the mindsetting of Coach Chot Reyes is parang gusto lang nya maka tsamba upang makapasok sa quarterfinals para manalo sa FIBA-ASIA.
Caguiao 2. Helterbrand 3. Siegle 4. Pinnisi 5. Taulava 6. Alapag 7. Williams 8. Norwood 9. Eric Menk Pure Pinoy 1. Raymundo 2. Hontiveros 3. Ritualo How can you win a international games kung papadala natin e puro hilaw na pinoy na walang pusong pinoy.

You know what happen?
Most of our key players got injured in this last competition, why? It is because these players are playing extensively long enough for only a short period of time! Imagine ilang beses ba mayroong conference sa PBA? Then yung sunod-sunod na preparation from the U.S. stint, Iran Asian Cup, Slovenia, Jones Cup and the Manila Invitational at ilang araw lang na pahinga going to this Fiba Asia Olympic Qualifying tournament. Sa tingin ko pagpasok nila they’re overexhausted, they looked old especially when the 4th quarter comes. Let us re-introduce them back again to the zone defense and three point shooting, let them learn again the basics of basketball!!! To the next coach, you must teach again to whomever your players would be the fundamentals of playing basketball…. you cannot win in international tournament experimenting repeatedly on the floor to get the right key players….

I like what Mr Recah wrote in his article in Inquirer :
The RP squad, indeed, came ready to die trying -- as its coach had maintained -- but, on the whole, it had to rely on an uneven game that left so much to chance. First, it could not mount a surefire offensive when the need arose. Second, it could not sustain a reliable defensive stand at very crucial points in the game....... RP was a team with a heart, no doubt about it, and this was typified by the short, sharp, sizzling immy Alapag On the whole, though, the team was often left without a core. There >was no visible floor leadership because, despite Alapag's heroics, he was at best a mini pacemaker trying to provide direction to his hugely scattered squad...... *great defenders*, in the tradition of Badion and Melencio, often had to turn into monsters whenever the situation called for it.(Recah Inquirer) ( What if Tubid, miller and Junti ...who can make offense and defense. We need an ENFORCER --rizal)

alam nyo supebillionaire naman yang sila Cojuanco at mga big bosses ng PBA, kahit wag na nila paglaruin sa PBA ang mga selected athletes natin sa RP Pool, kaya namang swelduhan ng mga BOSSES ng Pba ang mga players na iyan, eh puro bilyonaryo yan kayang kaya swelduhan ng mga taong yan lalo na si Cojuanco, para tuloy tuloy ang program hindi papalit palit ng players at hindi late ang preparation at para always ready to fight for international competition, pagawaan din ng sariling GYM ang mga RP Pool Members, give them the benefits and everything they need, they deserve it. If we will have a continuing program regarding preparation for International Competition in basketball let the Big Boss of the PBA finance them. Compare to their billions and trillions savings in the bank.

Just meet the ff. requirements: 1. find a 6'6" point guard who got moves like Alapag 2. a 6'8" shooting guard that shoots like Allan Caidic 3. a 6'9" small forward that can play like Danny I. 4. a 6'9" forward who can play like danny seigle 5. a 7'2" center that has the moves of asi taulava. hehe, hirap hanapin ano??? kasi basically, pandak tayong mga pinoy eh. it's time na kasi for pinoy to focus our efforts on ball games na we can win!
basketball is just far off from our reach for now! masyado na tayung naiwan. ------------- my sites: http://reallovedoc.blogspot.com http://asiantravelguide.blogspot.com

There are a lot of bloggers here who are pathetic. IT seems that they cannot see the big picture and the underlying reasons why. All talk, much like some people surrounding the Philippine team, and even some who are part of it.
I think the losses stem from attitude. You can practice twice or thrice a day, but come game time and your heart is not there, then it's useless. Of course there are exceptions, but players now,no longer have that NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE! The author does not allow comments to this entry
