There is injustice in the world. The family of Bambee dela Paz, the golfer whose father and brother were manhandled by the sons of Agrarian Reform Secretary and peace negotiator Nasser Pangandaman Sr., knows this very well.
Bambee’s post about the mauling has since exploded on the Internet and single-handedly turned the table against a powerful family with a direct line to the president. This underscored once again the potential of the Internet to be used by victims to seek justice. Bambee and her family are lucky to have such a medium in their arsenal. I don’t think I can say the same thing about other poorer Filipinos who have been victimized by those in power. Blogging is, by its very nature, a personal medium. This is why bloggers tend to write much more forcefully about an injustice if it hits them on a personal level, as it did the dela Pazes. But as we’ve seen in this case – and in other cases as well, most notably the Brian Gorrell imbroglio – once you blog about a wrong done to you, the whole blogosphere runs to your side, offering help and encouragement, even vengeance on your behalf. Once this happens, the mission to correct an injustice becomes a lot less personal -- it becomes a movement. If there’s one thing the Pangandamans probably regretted by now, it is that they did not check first if the people they violated had a blog, which, as we’ve seen, can be mightier than the goons of a trapo. The Pangandamans, powerful and arrogant, have been shamed and are now pleading to bloggers to please stop the vitriol. For this alone, the dela Pazes have scored a victory. Now, for Bambee and her supporters, the inevitable question arises: Is this it? We have demonstrated that we have so much power as bloggers, and is this it? What next? The thing about blogging is that it is so personal that whatever you post on your blog naturally flows from your experiences. So one moment you raise hell about the arrogance of those in power and, the next, you wonder aloud why the lip gloss you just bought doesn’t seem to have enough sheen. Truth be told, movements like Bambee’s are few and far between. Much of the blogosphere is inundated with stuff that are irrelevant, inconsequential and, well, personal. Then again, as I pointed out above, that is the original nature of blogging. The key word is “original” because, as we’ve seen, blogging is evolving. Blogging today is much different from blogging four or five years ago. Five years ago, blogs are like Twitter today: the medium is there and you’re still figuring out how to use it, so you publish just about anything, such as the crappy movie you and your girlfriend are watching or the hot chick you are ogling at the supermarket counter. These tell a thing or two about you or what you are doing but, in the larger scheme of things, they are meaningless and irrelevant. But is this all that we can do with a medium so evidently powerful? Today, blogging, apart from being both a narcissistic and cathartic exercise of self-expression among millions, is a potent information tool. News organizations use it to complement their journalism (take note: complement, not supplant). Activists use it to promote their cause. Victims use it to right a wrong. I guess what I’m saying is that bloggers like Bambee can – and should – use their newfound power and influence to right the wrongs done on other people. And, by God, there is so much injustice being committed out there! Yet, except in the circles of activists and human-rights advocates, I have not seen the same level of outrage in the blogosphere over the disappearance of Jonas Burgos, of Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan, of the atrocity done to Remegio Saladero Jr. and the hundreds of human-rights victims in the Philippines as we have witnessed in the Pangandaman incident. A post thanking your multitude of supporters is nice but not quite enough. Bloggers who benefited from the power of blogging to correct the injustice done to them have a duty, I believe, to pay society back. And the only way I can think of is for them to raise hell, too, about the injustice done to other people, particularly the oppressed ones – those who are too poor and marginalized to even own a computer, let alone know that there is such a thing as a blog. For delicadeza, the Pangandaman's should quit their jobs to avoid whitewash. Resign now you are not qualified to be a leader ofthe people/government.

If yesterday the pen is mightier than the sword--now, it's blogging! I've been an avid follower of GMA.NEWS.TV's blogs. I really like blogging because we can shout it out-what's in our deepest of thoughts. Kaya sana medyo maging maingat na yung mga taong kilala sa lipunan, na huwag silang gumawa ng hindi maganda--sapagkat napakaganda nilang subject para mabalahura sa blogs. To Bambee dela Paz, you just did the right thing---blog it! (But personally, I hope you won't mind---mukhang palaban din sa tingin ko ang hitsura ng father mo--siguro kaya hindi sila nagkaunawaan--both sides siguro ayaw magpaubaya sa isa't isa kaya nagkaroon ng gulo...wala akong kinakampihan, naaawa lang ako sa kapatid mong 14 years old...sana inisip ng tatay mo dapat hindi sya nakigulo kasi kasama nya ang pamilya nya....siguro kung sya lang...go! fight!pero tandaan nating lahat---lahat ng bagay ay nadadaan sa mabuting usapan). mukha din namang arogante yung mga dela paz. akala siguro nila komo mayaman sila kaya nilang magtaray sa kapwa. O hayan nakatagpo kayo ng katapat. akala kasi nyo kayo lang ang mayaman, nawaý maging aral sa inyo iyan. Of course marami ang maniniwala sa mga de la paz sa ngayon, para bang sila ay mga mahihrap na naaapi. di natin alam kung ano talaga ang asal ng mga dela paz.

Yes Mr. Conde marami po kami ang naghihintay sa Topic mo na ALABANG BOYS malalim po ang inputs na miibibigay ko dyan. alam na man po natin na drugs ay isang malaking problema ng ating lipunan. I commend the PDEA officers for rejecting the bribe offer, MABUHAY PO KAYO! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK diyos na po bahala sa inyo..but nalulungkot naman po ako sa DOJ dahil po the price/bribe is too much for them to reject.. si GOD na po bahala sa inyo, isipin nyo na lang po na may oras ang lahat ng hunde gumagawa ng tama. DOJ magpakatino po kayo dyan huwag nyo maliin ang tama at itama ang mali.. without crarification with PDEA na dismiss agad ang kaso, susmaryosep!!! prosecutor po ba kayo or defense counsel ?

why not legalize it just like they have in the Netherlands. Return the death penalty, and punished those who are dealing outside the allowed area. Of course with rules on controlled substance.

I just spent some time with the head of the fact-finding committee. He has submitted all pertinent facts to the board and leaves it to them to make the necessary decision based on all the facts. I will outline the facts to you as it was outlined to me. Rest assured that the facts were obtained from all parties involved and all witnesses at each incident site. The statements were obtained both by the valley fact-finding group and by the NBI as well. Testimonies were recorded, verified, and re-verified. Fortunately for the parties involved, there were always witnesses to give supporting statements on the events as they occurred. I will compose the outline shortly as it will be lengthy but just to whet your appetite or get you thinking, you will be quite surprised with the findings. Let's put it this way, the people we thought of as villains weren't quite what they were depicted to be. and the supposed protagonists may have yet been quite as factual in their testimony as it turns out to be. Even our 14-year old isn't as innocent and "prayerful" when all the details come out. just give me a few minutes.... In the interest of making sure that no facts might be left undisclosed, I will take it upon myself to start from the very beginning. Firstly let us start by saying that on or at about 12:40 p.m., the party of the Pangandaman' s registered at the starter's area. They registered for 2 flights comprised of 4 individuals per flight. Unfortunately, they still had 2 members of their group that had not yet arrived, so they initially tee'd off as 2 successive threesomes. The starter and marshall were informed that the 2 individuals that had not yet arrived would just catch up with them in the fairway. On or at about 1:05 p.m. the Dela Paz group registered initially as a twosome but since this isn't normally allowed, they registered as a 3-some even if the elder Mr. Dela Paz was not really going to play. When the Dela Paz 3-some was playing on hole number 3, they were passed by 2 golf carts containing Mayor Pangandaman and his companion (in one cart) and the caddies being brought by one of the starter personnell. The Pangandaman' s did not ask permission to drive through because they did not want to disturb the Dela Paz's who were in the middle of the fairway. Upon reaching the green of the 3rd hole, Mr. Dela Paz asked the caddie why the people in the cart just went through. Mayor Pangandaman who was already positioned at the 4th hole, personally informed Mr. Dela Paz that they were part of 2 foursomes. At this point, Mr. Dela Paz said "ah okay, courtesy lang naman". This was verified by the caddies. Mr. Pangandaman said that he did not disturb them anymore because the player was about to hit. At this point, Mayor Pangandaman thought everything was okay so he proceeded to the 4th hole (Par 3) where his other flightmates were. In the records it says that Mr. Pangandaman was not yet even done pitching into the green when a ball landed near his 8-year old child so they immediately made sure the child was secured in the cart. ( For those unaware of the common practice at Valley Golf, on every par 3, the group behind you is signaled to hit into the green once everyone from your group is already on the green) Until you have been cleared to hit by the group ahead, you should not hit into the green. It is common sense and basic precautionary procedure. In this particular case, we have no corroborative testimony. One set of caddies say they were given clearance, while the other say that no clearance was given as of yet when the ball/s had landed. The Pangandaman' s claim that the same situation happened in the 5th hole (Par5). Even the caddied confirmed this. At this time, Bambee Dela Paz had called the Marshall to tell him that the flight behind them was complaining about why their pace was slow and that the cause of the delay was the 5-some in front of them. Shortly thereafter, a marshall on his motorcycle appeared and approached the Pangandaman' s and asked if they were playing as a fivesome to which the Mayor said no. "We are 2 foursomes". Nonetheless, the Pangandaman' s had already agreed among themselves that they would rather the Dela Paz's play through. The Mayor was even quoted saying to his Father. " magagaling yung mga bata at malakas pumalo, baka mabagalan sa atin" They informed the marshall that they would just let the Dela Paz group play through and the marshall informed the Mr. Dela Paz of this. ( Just as an aside, the investigative group actually asked the group behind Dela paz if indeed they had complained about the slow down and the group said that the y said no such thing to the Dela paz flight. They were not even in contact at anytime before they arrived at the tee house to see the fight and eventually help stop it) When the Delapaz group reached the green of hole 5, the caddies of the 2 kids gave them their drivers so that they would waste no time playing through. The Mayor, who at that time was sitting along with their companions, stood up to personally tell Mr. Dela Paz to play through. Caddies, and the tee house server claim that the Mayor told Dela Paz na "Mauna na ho kayo" and walked to approach Dela Paz, The response of Dela Paz was "Huwag mo akong pagtaasan ng boses" Dela Paz began to question the Mayor why they were playing as a fivesome. The Mayor said that this was not the case but Dela Paz was insisting and even said (again corroborated by the caddies) "Linoloko mo ba ako?" "Member ka ba dito, Kilala mo ba ako?" (as you can see, this question did not come from Pangandaman. In fact, in the recorded testimony, this is exactly what Pangandaman claimed delapaz had said to him and yet in Delapaz' recorded statement, he never said that the mayor asked him " kilala mo ba ako" Completely different from when the media was already involved. When Delapaz was posing the above question, the mayor was heard to say. "Sandali lang, hindi naman tayo nagaaway dito. Akala ko ba naayos na natin yung issue kanina sa hole 3? At about this point Delapaz closed his umbrella and then poked the mayor on his stomach using the pointed end ( some caddies say Dela Paz swung the umbrella and some say that he poked the Mayor) The investigative board asked Dela Paz what he did, he said that he poked the Mayor in self defense. When asked who was attacking him, Dela Paz said that he was being surrounded by 4 men. The caddies and other witnesses on hand said that when the umbrella incident happened, it was only Dela Paz and the mayor that were talking. The other parties were in the tee house about 15-20 yards away. The Mayor says he was poked and so he backed off and just as he was about to be poked again, his brother, Hussein ran and attacked Delapaz and hit Delapaz knocking him to the ground.( At this point the commotion took place. One of the things observed is 14-year old Bino hit the Mayor with his driver. Apparently, the mayor parried with his forearm and hand so this is where he sustaned the injury. In the process also, Hussein was being pulled off the older dela paz by his 2 children but again Bino was seen to hit Hussein in the face and head while Bambee had scratched the other side of Husseins face. At this time also, witnesses say, that 3 or 4 other members of the flight excluding the Secretary, the 8-year old boy, and the girlfriend of Hussein were involved in attacking or subduing the older dela paz but this lasted very shortly and when the combatants had been separated the existing people in the tee house as well as the new flight that was playing behind the dela paz's. At this point the Secretary told the delapaz group to leave so as to avoid any more trouble. As the elder delapaz was leaving he was heard calling someone on his cellphone saying " may away kami, pumunta kayo dito" No one knew who delapaz was speaking to as he walked away towards the main clubhouse. A few minutes later, the secretary and his group decided to end the day instead of continuing to play. When they got to the clubhouse, Hussein wanted to wash up because he was bleeding in the neck area. As he got near the reception area, he saw delapaz and was heard to have said "O, nandito pa pala kayo" to which Dela Paz said "Hindi pa tapos ito gaganti pa kami". At this point, Bino got in between his Dad and Hussein while saying " Tatandaan ka namin" (None of the witnesses in the clubhouse, and there were many, ever saw Bino kneel and say that he was only 14 years old at maawa na sila) On the contrary, Bino was acting like anything but a helpless child. He sounded tough, angry, and antagonistic enough that the fight broke out again. At this point, the bodyguards of the Mayor ran into the clubhouse via the poolside entrance. When questioned about this, the mayor said that one was his driver and the other was his "Yayo". As far as the board was concerned, the "Yayo" was also a bodyguard. Said Yayo came into the clubhouse with a clutchbag containing a gun and brought out the gun without pointing it at anyone. The Mayor immediately instructed him that there was no need for guns and the gun was put back. During the investigation, the Mayor said that the handgun was his and that his "yayo" was likely going to give it to him but he declined. Upon instructing his "yayo", the man just stayed in one corner. At this time the wife of Dela Paz and his other son arrived. The son was wielding a baseball bat and the wife had a knife which she pulled out of a scabbard. These two were subdued by security but they were verbally threatening the Pangandaman' s during this time. There was also a reported incident where the driver of the mayor ran out and came back with a suitcase containing a supposed armalite as claimed by valley security. The driver never pulled it out or pointed it at anyone but it was readily accesible[/i] HAY, NAKU ETO NA NAMAN TAYO??

bambee dela paz is now under libel charge by masiu mayor nasser pangandaman jr. any thoughts on this? for me, i prefer the masiu mayor includes you in the libel for your sweepingly bias blog on masiu and its people, a typical bigot's take on things he can't accept. how can you say, only place that can have such mayor. reality is there are always two sides to a coin. i beg you don't sink in your f__ces! i agree with you. i find them really shameless. why won't they resign or at least go on leave while the whole bruhahaha is bein investigated? let us admit it...they are seeming to be clinging on to power...sa japan lang ito nangyari, nagpakamatay na involved sa hiya nila- whether totoo man ang nangyari or not. sila, walang tinag! i "admire" their guts!

the libel case filed by the pangandaman's in marawi smacks of harassment, power tripping and abuse of authority. who is to draw the line? i think that since they are government officials much is expected from them.leadership by example. the office of the ombudsman, the doj and the chr should take the cudgels for the de la paz family. pgma must revisit her decision to appoint the dar sec to the peace panel. he has no more credibility after this violent episode. the leaders of asean involved in the peace panel must put pressure on the arroyo government. it is only by rejecting pangandaman's appointment will they make it right for peace. in the same light, bloggers must unite to legally protect themselves. i say that libel suits arising from blogs be conducted online as the supposed offense was "committed" online. sending de la paz to marawi is a death sentence. Say love our Muslim brothers

what a government officials!not only resign put them into jail,so other government officials will not take advantage of thier powers!those people are still alive but thier soul is burning in hell!!!!
mabuhay po ang mga Bloggers!
Ang ating pambansang bayani na si Jose Rizal ay nakilala po hinde dahil sa dahas nakilala po sya sa talas ng kanyang pagsusulat. kaya po atin pong isulat ang ating nalalamang mga kaapihan ng ating mga kababayan na mahirap, walang pera para kumuha ng abogado. sa totoo lang po marami po me kilala na tumatahimik na lang kahit aping api na ksi po mahirap lang sila at di po nila kaya kumuha ng abogado sa mga kaso nila. di po nila maipagtangol ang sarli nila dahil alam naman po natin na mahina ang justice system sa bayan natin nasusuhulan po ang mga judge, fiscal, kaya po ang ang magagawa na lang po ng mahihirap nating kababayan ay TUMAHIMIK at UMIYAK... kaya mga kapuso na BLOGGERS huwag po tayong matakot at tumahimik na lang sa kaapihan na dinaranas ng ating mga kababayan. mabuhay po ang mga BLOGGERS!!! powerful as it seems, the might of blogging is confined in the cyberspace. It may reach the farthest point in the globe but it remains in the digital world.
The issue about the Dela Paz and the Pangandamans may have touched millions of heart and join the agrieved party in their crusade against their oppressor but what the Dela Paz needs now is the assistance of these "millions" in the cyberspace in their fight with the mighty family of the Pangandamans in the real world. I personally know their family because I live in their Region since birth and I could feel their influence even if I am miles away from their territory. Only one thing this family understands and it is - Power. If only we could unite the millions of bloggers all over the country and form into a cohesive wave of influence... until then I can say that the Dela Paz really have won their battle. manindigan po tayo sa katotohanan, ilantad po natin ang katiwalian, ibagsak ang mapang api, usigin ang sakim sa kapangyarihan. huwag po tayo papayag mga kababayan ko na manatili sa gobyerno ang mapang api, mabibigat ang kamay, abusado sa pwesto at maliin ang tama at itama ang mali. kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan! kabataan kumilos tayo para pabagsakin ang mga tao sa gobyerno na abusado, magnanakaw, mandaraya, at wala sa katinuan para maging Government official..

We should removed the covered face in statue of woman holding balance one is rich and one is poor. So the world will know who we are if we do not changed that is our symbol of justice here in the Philippines. At this time, Bambee Dela Paz had called the Marshall to tell him that the flight behind them was complaining about why their pace was slow and that the cause of the delay was the 5-some in front of them. Shortly thereafter, a marshall on his motorcycle appeared and approached the Pangandaman' s and asked if they were playing as a fivesome to which the Mayor said no. "We are 2 foursomes". Nonetheless, the Pangandaman' s had already agreed among themselves that they would rather the Dela Paz's play through. The Mayor was even quoted saying to his Father. " magagaling yung mga bata at malakas pumalo, baka mabagalan sa atin" They informed the marshall that they would just let the Dela Paz group play through and the marshall informed the Mr. Dela Paz of this. ( Just as an aside, the investigative group actually asked the group behind Dela paz if indeed they had complained about the slow down and the group said that the y said no such thing to the Dela paz flight. They were not even in contact at anytime before they arrived at the tee house to see the fight and eventually help stop it) When the Delapaz group reached the green of hole 5, the caddies of the 2 kids gave them their drivers so that they would waste no time playing through. The Mayor, who at that time was sitting along with their companions, stood up to personally tell Mr. Dela Paz to play through. Caddies, and the tee house server claim that the Mayor told Dela Paz na "Mauna na ho kayo" and walked to approach Dela Paz, The response of Dela Paz was "Huwag mo akong pagtaasan ng boses" Dela Paz began to question the Mayor why they were playing as a fivesome. The Mayor said that this was not the case but Dela Paz was insisting and even said (again corroborated by the caddies) "Linoloko mo ba ako?" "Member ka ba dito, Kilala mo ba ako?" (as you can see, this question did not come from Pangandaman. In fact, in the recorded testimony, this is exactly what Pangandaman claimed delapaz had said to him and yet in Delapaz' recorded statement, he never said that the mayor asked him " kilala mo ba ako" Completely different from when the media was already involved. When Delapaz was posing the above question, the mayor was heard to say. "Sandali lang, hindi naman tayo nagaaway dito. Akala ko ba naayos na natin yung issue kanina sa hole 3? At about this point Delapaz closed his umbrella and then poked the mayor on his stomach using the pointed end ( some caddies say Dela Paz swung the umbrella and some say that he poked the Mayor) The investigative board asked Dela Paz what he did, he said that he poked the Mayor in self defense. When asked who was attacking him, Dela Paz said that he was being surrounded by 4 men. The caddies and other witnesses on hand said that when the umbrella incident happened, it was only Dela Paz and the mayor that were talking. The other parties were in the tee house about 15-20 yards away. The Mayor says he was poked and so he backed off and just as he was about to be poked again, his brother, Hussein ran and attacked Delapaz and hit Delapaz knocking him to the ground.( At this point the commotion took place. One of the things observed is 14-year old Bino hit the Mayor with his driver. Apparently, the mayor parried with his forearm and hand so this is where he sustaned the injury. In the process also, Hussein was being pulled off the older dela paz by his 2 children but again Bino was seen to hit Hussein in the face and head while Bambee had scratched the other side of Husseins face. At this time also, witnesses say, that 3 or 4 other members of the flight excluding the Secretary, the 8-year old boy, and the girlfriend of Hussein were involved in attacking or subduing the older dela paz but this lasted very shortly and when the combatants had been separated the existing people in the tee house as well as the new flight that was playing behind the dela paz's. At this point the Secretary told the delapaz group to leave so as to avoid any more trouble. As the elder delapaz was leaving he was heard calling someone on his cellphone saying " may away kami, pumunta kayo dito" No one knew who delapaz was speaking to as he walked away towards the main clubhouse. A few minutes later, the secretary and his group decided to end the day instead of continuing to play. When they got to the clubhouse, Hussein wanted to wash up because he was bleeding in the neck area. As he got near the reception area, he saw delapaz and was heard to have said "O, nandito pa pala kayo" to which Dela Paz said "Hindi pa tapos ito gaganti pa kami". At this point, Bino got in between his Dad and Hussein while saying " Tatandaan ka namin" (None of the witnesses in the clubhouse, and there were many, ever saw Bino kneel and say that he was only 14 years old at maawa na sila) On the contrary, Bino was acting like anything but a helpless child. He sounded tough, angry, and antagonistic enough that the fight broke out again. At this point, the bodyguards of the Mayor ran into the clubhouse via the poolside entrance. When questioned about this, the mayor said that one was his driver and the other was his "Yayo". As far as the board was concerned, the "Yayo" was also a bodyguard. Said Yayo came into the clubhouse with a clutchbag containing a gun and brought out the gun without pointing it at anyone. The Mayor immediately instructed him that there was no need for guns and the gun was put back. During the investigation, the Mayor said that the handgun was his and that his "yayo" was likely going to give it to him but he declined. Upon instructing his "yayo", the man just stayed in one corner. At this time the wife of Dela Paz and his other son arrived. The son was wielding a baseball bat and the wife had a knife which she pulled out of a scabbard. These two were subdued by security but they were verbally threatening the Pangandaman' s during this time. There was also a reported incident where the driver of the mayor ran out and came back with a suitcase containing a supposed armalite as claimed by valley security. Talaga lang ha...makati will develop with or without Binay?
Question is, nakatira ka na ba sa makati? gaano ka na ba katagal tumira dun? Baka nga di mo pa naabutan yung dating barangay ng Culi-culi dyan eh. I am not politically favoring Binay, but I am crediting in what he has done in Makati. He has been trying to work out the squatter problem. Mahirap din naman kaya hanapan ng relocation yan. Check mo ang Magallanes area (near the highway, sa may riles), dati tadtad ng squatters yan. Ngayon malinis. Problema nga lang, pasaway ang mga squatters dyan, bumabalik pa rin. As for the riverside, mahirap na problema din yan. Lahat ng namention mo e mahihirap na problema yan and those problems cannot be solved overnight.And give credit to the guy naman, kahit papaano.

ABE is right, THE BINAYs have been there for eternity and yet REAL develoment has not come- like, humanitarian relocation projects for the squatters, hindi yong pampalubag loob lang, real 'spic and span' environment like Singapore, untarnished image of 'public servants' there. Ang paglilinis at pagpapaalis ng mga squatters sa tabi ng railways at iba pang lugar ay di ginawa ni Binay. Ito ay project ng MMDA through the leadership ni Bayani Fernando. Let's give credit to Mr. Fernando. He has done enough to make Metro Manila a better place than before. Kailangan din natin ang tulad nya. Kailangan yung firm ang decision at strict kasi ang kailangan ngayon ng Pilipinas ay yung taong hindi natatakot sa mga lahat basta tama ang ginagawa. Gusto kasi ng mga mamamayan eh magagawa nila lahat ng gusto nila, pero hindi dapat. Dapat sumunond sila sa batas. Imagine how the city of Marikina became the cleanest city in the Philippines. It's through the governance of Mr. Fernando. that's what am hoping and praying, too -- I'm saying all this because this year 2009 I will no longer have a house because I can't afford to pay due to the credit crises here in the US. If a 5'6, 140lbs person swung a driver at me, I am pretty sure I will not be asking his age before I strike back (assuming I survive of course) - and strike back I will with intent to make sure he doesn't swing that driver again. 3) Dela Paz didn't give Valley employees and security staff a chance to stop the incident from escalating. Per witness accounts, the dela paz family kept provoking and making threats na "gaganti sila". Jovi, if you want to get the whole story - come to valley golf club and make your own investigation and interview the witnesses. However, I find it disconcerting that people tend to take bambee's work for everything that took place without even trying to understand or figure out what REALLY happened. They just assumed that the Pangandamans were the devils and the de la pazes where angels. (From all accounts it was the senior de la paz who started the fight and the pangandamans had a disproportionate reaction - kinda similar to current world events, if I may add). We all know that when people are distraught and they tell their story, there is a tendency for people who to embellish their story just a little bit in order to get sympathy (if you say it's not true, I'm calling you a liar). We all should listen to the other sides (probably another exaggerated version of the the events from their point of view) then we as objective, uninvolved observers should decide how events REALLY took place. Remember one important fact, WE WEREN'T THERE. Most people took a look at someone's appeal for sympathy then we believed immediately. That in itself is dangerous. What's to stop the next unscrupulous individual from writing a blog about an event about some untoward behavior against another public official in order to get the public against him/her, yet this time all that is written is totally fabricated and false? I'm not saying this is the case with the de la pazes. Here, I think the Pangandamans are jerks for abusing their position. The greater your power, the greater your responsibility to restrain it, even against all idiocy. Like the elder de la paz trying to show off to his kids. (As a parent, you should set an example of restraint to your children). Personally, the Pangandamans should lose this case and hope that the elder de la paz learns his lesson even if he wins this one. In another topic: It greatly disappoints me that I should read some of the comments posted here that blankets all Muslims into one group with the Pangandamans. The Pangandamans DO NOT represent all Muslims, just as the Marcoses and the Arroyos DO NOT represent all Christians. One bad Muslim does not make Islam bad just as one bad Christian does not make Christianity a farce. I grew up in Mindanao (Davao). I also have had the privilege of knowing a few Muslim colleagues. I was baptized a Catholic, although now I am non-practicing. Why? Because I have been disappointed by actions of both Christianity and Islam. But despite that, I do not say they are wrong, it isn't just right for me. And generalizing a whole people because of the actions of a few idiots isn't right. It leads to social intolerance, in extreme cases it can lead to genocide. One bad apple DOES NOT represent the whole tree. Filipinos fail to realize that in this basketball and boxing crazy nation, some of their sports heroes are Muslim. Let us be more tolerant towards other people who are different from us. Here is somebody who has no choice but to affect peoples lives even if he doesn't want to, because he, fortunately or unfortunately, has been given great power. Everyday he has to choose whether to use the power to either (1) act for good, (2) act for self-serving reasons, (3) or not to act at all. Each choice having a consequence, and each consequence he must live with. A fact hammered to him by the death of his uncle. Government officials chose who they are. If you are elected, you chose to run and campaign for the position. If you are an appointee, you chose to accept the appointment. These people chose to be in a position of power and after which, they must make everyday choices regarding the 3 options listed above. Sadly most of them chose #2 and #3. You're right, they didn't watch Spider-Man Also, I feel sad for your Muslim friends. a=b,b=c therefore b=c this statement is always correct.. you made a wrong illustration dude.. a king is a ruler.a ruler has 12 inches therefore a king has 12 inches.. the "b" element which is "ruler" are not the same words as used in the 1st and 2nd statements.. a king is a ruler - the word "ruler" is someone who has authority over others. a ruler has 12 inches - the word "ruler" is an instrument used for measuring length. therefore, the element "b" in your illustration, is not the same. it should have been a=b,c=d therefore a=d if b=c. a=b,b=c therefore a=c is always true.. analyze first your illustrations before blogging one..

Dude, I meant that as a joke. But still to illustrate the point I grouped ruler (12 inches) and ruler (king) together because they have the same object name. Which shouldn't be. Just as some people tend to group Muslims (Pangandamans) and Muslims (all others) together because they share the same group name. Which shouldn't be. For the sake of arguement. What gave this bloggers the right to judge persons or entities when they only read one side of the story. A blog post should not and never be an indication of someone else's guilt. Mehry above said blogging is a powerful tool. I agree. So powerful that it can be used for good acts or despicable acts. That's why it must be used responsibly. I understand Carlos Conde's article means that blogs should be used to bring proper attention to some perceived injustice which has been previously ignored, but it should not be used as a basis of declaring one party's guilt or innocence. A blog post is a view of one side of the argument without giving attention to the opposing side. Imagine this: a taxi driver who might be computer illiterate happens to offend a pretty young female IT programmer. She get's so incensed she writes in her blog what happened to her, exaggerating a little bit and even naming the driver and/or his vehicle plate number. The public sympathizes with this girl and condemns the taxi driver, who doesn't have a chance to defend himself because he doesn't know anything about blogs. This things can happen for as long as there are unscrupulous people, there would be unscrupulous bloggers. Be careful in writing, reading and believing in blogs. thanks for sharing your thoughts. we all try to be as open minded as we can, given the limitation on information...buti na lang at di nga tayo nagmumurahan dito which just says that edukado naman tayo. bias towards one side or the other is to be expected, based on which side you think is right....you may be on the left and I may be on the right side of the argument, but whats important is that we deal with the issue with logic. i agree that this has really gotten out of hand and sana si mr. conde could have been a pro-active moderator. better to be vocal, active and ethically open-minded about the issue at hand, rather than to just keep silent and pretend that the incident never existed....lets try to point towards a solution as what the 2 parties now are doing, they've now brought it to the court for resolution...if in the end, they just opt to reach a settlement and shake hands on it, thats just as fine with me and probably for most everyone else. but to keep silent...yun ang truly nakakahiya. cheers!

The DAR chief said his son, who is the mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur, filed Thursday the case against Bambina “Bambee" de la Paz. He said his son found the blog entry, which heavily criticized the Pangandamans, libelous. “May na-file nang kaso ng libel kahapon ang anak ko doon sa probinsya (Lano del Sur) against Bambee de la Paz (My son filed a libel case against Bambee de la Paz yesterday in our home province)," Pangandaman told GMANews.TV in a phone interview. Pangandaman said the one-sided accounts of the Valley golf incident in the news and on the Internet that favored the De la Paz family have already tarnished their reputation. He said the allegations hurled against them, especially those contained in Bambee’s blog, were only meant to discredit them. Bambee, 18, posted a detailed account of the melee on her blog Vicissitude, and comments against the Pangandamans flooded in. “Of course we were affected by the incident. Let’s face it...it already happened. But (what they are doing) is a character assassination," Pangandaman said. The libel charge is the latest addition to a string of charges that the Pangandamans took against the De la Paz family in connection with the mauling incident last month. The earlier charges filed were grave threats and physical injuries. For their part, the De la Paz family has also lodged two counts of slight physical injuries and two counts of child abuse against the Pangandamans. GMANews.TV was unable to reach Bambee for comment Friday night. Pangandaman declined to recount to GMANews.TV his side of the story regarding the golf course spat, saying, “I don’t want to be cited for sub judice. I don't want to comment. I just want our lawyers to respond." Several days after the brawl, the Pangandamans and the De la Pazes were called for separate meetings by board members of the Valley Golf to get each camp’s side of the story. During the meeting, golf course officials asked both parties if they could make amends with each other. Pangandaman said: “I am open to reconciliation but we will not initiate it." Pangandaman insisted that they did not instigate the fight. He also denied reports claiming he sent an emissary to settle the matter with the De la Paz family. “I have no representative from my camp who approached the De la Paz family. I did not authorize anyone at wala kaming plan na ganun (and have no plans to do so)," the DAR chief said. He reiterated that his apology was meant, not for the De la Pazes, but for the Valley Golf management and the public, given that he is accountable for any public demeanor that he displays. Asked what his only fault could have been during the incident, Pangandaman said lightly, “My only fault was that I invited my sons to play golf. But it was the holidays. The truth is there is no justice for poor Filipinos like us. Most bloggers are well off and have their own computers wit DSL connection at home. Poor people like me do only blog at internet cafes. Not only that majority of Filipinos especially in the countryside (of where I came from) do not know what blog is. Education is the key to solve poverty and injustice too but I think it is slowly eroding when fixcals, corrupt law enforcers are sprouting like mushrooms. I think this case of libel suit against Bambee as everybody knows is just a form of harassment, but not only against Bambee but to all bloggers as well, they meant to stifle the freedom of expression in the internet or comments against erring public official. I think it's high time now for bloggers to close rank stand up agaainst this latest attemt by the pangandaman. maybe some bloggers can start a symbolic online petition of re-call against the masiu mayor.
mr. conde, kindly discuss the issue again in the light of developments saying that the pangandamans had a bloody lot of gall to sue Bambee for libel. Libel..imagine that. for complaining about your day. for being harassed by a public official and his litter. You said so yourself that blogs have a personal nature and i believe bambee has every right to complain. it wasnt character assassination as the DAR secretary (fallen from grace) would have us believe. who knew that issue would be a hit - millions of blogs are written everyday. Pangandamans should accept by now it was their own doing and undoing that their characters were assassinated. dont blame the dela pazes. you laid the punches.

In a two page resolution, the golf course’s board of directors sanctioned Dela Paz for “disorderly behavior” when he instigated the brawl with Masiu town mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr., his brother Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman, and their bodyguards. Nasser Jr and Hussein were banned from entering Valley Golf’s premises. Pangandaman Sr., a member of the golf club, was held liable for allowing the actions of his two sons. "The board unanimously recommends that Mr. Dela Paz be expelled for his disorderly behavior and instigating the brawl while Nasser Sr. be suspended for a period of two years.” Valley Golf spokesperson Teofilo Abejo said in a press briefing that their decision was based on the accounts of marshals, caddies, three house attendants of the executive’s course’s hole number 5, and the statements from both parties. In this case the Pangandamans have been losing in the propaganda war because people have been quick to take the side of the De la Pazes based on what Bambee de la Paz wrote in her blog. The downside of blogging in this instance is that other bloggers are too quick to swallow the side of the De la Pazes simply because there was a 14-year-old and and a middle-aged man involved. Why don't these bloggers explore Bambee's blog further and it would be rather easy to visualize the De la Pazes acting like they owned the town. Each and every one of us should be responsible for their actions. Kaya nga tayo na bubuhay sa mundong ito mayroon tayong kanyakanyang responsibilidad sa buhay, responsibilidad sa sarili at sa kapwa. You speak as if the incident is over. The incident is not over until these thugs who hide behind the "presidential-skirt" are sanctioned by the Courts with finality. Sadly the essential lesson will never be learned by politicos: that they are made to serve by the mandate of the people and not because some wheeling-dealing king-maker had favored them with power. This is a culture bound disease.... derived from the Spaniards. How to treat the disease of patronage-politics in this country is a huge task bigger than the war on Jihad Crying savages. What Bambee demonstrated us though, is that, blogging can be used to CHECK these power-hungry money-pocketing politicians. Sayang the Bloggers missed the boat on the "North Rail" affair and the "ZTE" or the Garcie-Tape fiasco . Too many players were paid, no disgruntled player knew how to blog it, or no body really wanted to tell all because the money and threats were too much. Too deadly.... This should serve as a lesson to all of us. While blogging is a way to express our personal sentiments over matters whether trivial or of utmost importance, one thing should come to mind--credibility. The issue on Bambee being sued for libel shouldn't be seen as a form of suppression but rather a reality check for all of us that we should be more responsible in the things we post online.

I agree with you that what happened was clearly a reality check for all. However, it doesnt apply just to Bambee, even the Pangandamans should take this as a valuable lesson.

pero nakakalimutan mo na meron pa ring mga mayayabang dyan na kasama rin sa kwento, at naparusahan din sila. actually, wala itong pinagkaiba sa away ng 2 maton sa kanto, nagkataon na yung isang maton, matanda na pero makulit....yung isa naman, maraming siga na kasama....ayun, nagkatagpo at dahil di marunong umiwas yung matanda sa away, napitik tuloy. kung nagkataon nga na dalawang di kilala ang nagkasalpukan, malamang wala tayong mababalitaan sa nangyari....ngunit sapagkit away ito ng dalawang mayaman na mayabang, siyempre headline yan. “(T)he tales told by both camps are miles apart. Thus, how can one know the truth the except when there are other witnesses to corroborate their stories?” by Ducky Paredes The Philippine Blogosphere (a coined word that has come to mean the prevailing opinion on a particular issue as reflected by bloggers on the internet) has been agog over an incident in Valley Golf and Country Club in which one participant reported that her kid brother and her 56-year old father were beaten senseless by a cabinet secretary’s son – a small town mayor in Lanao – over nothing. In fact, according to her blog, this senseless incident had her and her brother pleading for mercy while these thugs beat them to a virtual pulp. Upon reading this, since Malaya had no issues during the Christmas-New Year break, I wrote a short piece on a golfer’s reflections on the incident in my blog (www.duckyparedes.com/blogs) based on what I had heard as a member of Valley. Now, from testimony of witnesses to the incident – caddies of both parties, the marshal, the starter and other club personnel – to the investigators, I am clearer on what happened. What I narrate ignores the testimonies of the so-called victims (Delfin, Bambi and Dino De la Paz) or the alleged ruffians (Secretary Nasser Pagandaman of DAR and Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr. and four other male companions) where these have no corroborating witnesses. Here are the facts: On December 26, at or around 1:00 p.m., there were two flights from the Pangandamans followed by one of the De la Paz family. Since there were two late players in the Pangandaman flights, they teed off with three players on each flight. Following them was a flight of two players – Bambee and Dino – with the father walking with them. On reaching the green of Hole No. 3, Delfin was surprised to see two golf carts with two players getting off at Hole No. 4. (The other golf cart carried their caddies and was driven by a grounds marshal.) Delfin accosted them. Mayor Nasser, Jr. explained that they were part of the group ahead and were only joining them a bit late. When Delfin told him that they would be five players in their flight, the Mayor explained that there would only by four of them, since one of the players in their second flight would move up to the first flight to accommodate the two new players. Thus, they teed off. On Hole No. 5, a De la Paz caddy was sent to ask why there were five golfers in their flight. Nasser Jr. explained that there were only four and that, besides, they would let the De la Paz flight move ahead of their flight on the next hole. The caddy says that he relayed this to Delfin. Between Hole No. 5 and 6 is a tee house where one can take refreshments. There Nasser, Jr,’s flight caught up with Secretary Nasser’s flight. The mayor asked his father to let the next flight through since they seemed in a hurry and, besides, he said that they were long-hitters and good players. They agreed on this. When the De la Paz flight was coming in from Hole No. 5, they were waved through by the players and the caddies to the next hole beyond the tee house. The mayor decided to personally inform Delfin. He started to say that they were allowing the De la Paz flight to move ahead of both Pangandaman flights but was met by an expletive: “P—– I—M-. Sabi mo apat kayo; bakit lima kayo?” When the mayor explained that they were only four in his flight, Delfin was further incensed: Don’t you know who I am? Are you a member here? While repeatedly stabbing Nasser, Jr. with his umbrella. At that point, Hussein, the younger brother, joined in by punching Delfin. Bino to the rescue! He swung his driver at the mayor who parried the blow but injured his hand. Both brothers then repeatedly punched De La Paz father and son, who also fought back. The rest of the Pangandaman group – except for the secretary and the woman companion of the mayor – tried to stop the fight and eventually succeeded. The De la Paz group went back to the clubhouse and the Pangandamans stayed behind. No more golf for either for the rest of the day. Hussein had blood on his face from punches he received from Bino and a scratch (courtesy of Bambee). Did Delfin need help walking? Had he been beaten to a pulp? No. In fact, he was on his cellphone, spiritedly calling for what seemed like reinforcements. (On returning to the clubhouse, while the rest of the Pangandamans were taking dirt off their shoes, Hussein went to wash up. Unfortunately, he and Bino met up again. According to Bino, he knelt in front of Hussein to beg that he stop hurting him. According to Hussein, Bino raised his hand. He thought the boy would hit him again; so, he gave him a punch. There were no witnesses to this. I included this only to show that the tales told by both camps are miles apart.
