Monday, December 1. 2008Battle of the Touch Screen Phones
The year 2008 will be remembered in the mobile industry as the year when everyone started shifting from the plain keypads to the touch screen. Everybody is coming out with their own version of a keyboard-less mobile phone after seeing the great success Apple had with the iPhone. Let's look at the top contenders from each manufacturer and see how they fair.
Apple iPhone 3G. Apple may have started it all. We will eventually get into touch screen someday but Apple pushed everybody else to revolutionize how we use our mobile phones. It’s major advantage was that it was able to develop their own device with their own platform. This seamless integration allowed them to maximize the phone’s usability. However, the biggest leap Apple had was the introduction of the App Store in their ecosystem. Thousands of games and applications, both free and paid, enables people to creatively maximize the productivity and add a fun factor of using the iPhone. Costs at least Php38k and locks you in with a single provider. ![]() Samsung Omnia (SGH i900). Samsung’ flagship touch screen phone has a 3.5” display screen and has an 8GB and 16GB capacity. Runs the latest Windows Mobile platform, the Omnia gives people access to hundreds of applications developed for WinMo devices. Samsung has since dropped the price but when it first came out it was Php34k (8GB) and Php38k (16GB). Sony Ericsson XPeria X1. Sony Ericsson went ahead and introduced a touchscreen with a horizontal slide-out keyboard. The size of the phone still resembles the candy-bar form factor so the screen is a little small at only 3 inches. Also ran Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, Sony Ericsson added their own UI panel on top of the platform which users can customize. Only been out for about 2 weeks and costs Php42,500. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Not yet locally available but should be out by January of 2009, Nokia introduced their first full touchscreen phone that includes not only a regular stylus but also a pluck (same as the one used for guitars) to navigate the menus. No local pricing available but estimates put it at around Php20,000. HTC Touch HD. HTC’s full touchscreen phone is the one that has the biggest screen of the pack at 3.8 inches. The company also boasts that the phone supports hi-def video playback to maximize the effect of the large screen real-estate. You'll need an microSD card for more storage though and it's the most expensive of the whole pack -– Php55,900. LG KP500 Cookie. The LG Cookie may be the one with least features in the pack but LG’s approach was to reach a market that could not afford the high price tags of the rest but still are looking into touch screen phones. At Php11,900, it costs at least 1/3 (or even 1/4) of the price of the others which makes it attractive to a most consumers. Gets you the best bargain for a touchscreen phone at just under Php12,000. Everyone in the pack, except for the LG Cookie, are feature-packed – WiFi capability, 3G/HSDPA connectivity, GPS and A-GPS support. Storage capacity will vary between 8Gb and 16Gb while others may require you to stick in a memory card. Your choice will eventually depend on how much budget you have and which platform you are most comfortable with. the biggest challenge will be getting used to the virtual keyboard so check out each unit and see how easily you can adapt to the new feature and which one suits you best. To all: if you want to buy those, make sure you know what you need...because i learn my lesson on buying the iphone3g...yes it was great you can connect to most of the WIFI out there especially if you are in a hot spot (airport) but the problem is the battery life..aside from that my plan was too fricking expensive...now i am stuck with it until 2010..oh well but i love the camera because after you took a picture you can e-mail it right away..also the turn- by- turn navigation system which is i used a lot everytime i have to pick up my husband because he will coming in any airport here in the state of florida..so my advised to those who want to get this high tech phone...is to buy a car charger..good luck
Wala ka sa Mobile phone ko, I can put three different phone numbers in one cellphone. Isa para sa business ko, isa para sa kamag anak at friends at yung pangatlo para sa mga mistress ko in distress. It's not a touchphone its a mind over matter. psychicphone.

Is this a forum? grabe mga words sana naman di nyo po tinototoo, kung may pikon man, wag na mag-post. yun lang
in speaking of revolution... Apple was an innovator, sila ang unang nagphase-out ng floppy drive nung 2001, ngayon, they revolutionized the mobile platform by making the iPhone na touchscreen, and then other competitors started following. the only disadvantage is that the battery isn't user replaceable, making it a less portable phone.

Telus carrier kow which competed well with Rogers. Unlimited data $15. Timing lang Future shop marked it down to $89 from $249.99 with free $50 gift card. So parang $40 na lang, eh me $20 Shopper's bonus money pa akow. Tama ba HTC Touch Pro was $19 as of Nov 08? Kahit anow pa sabihin nila kailangan kow pa rin ng cellfone kasi dead na yung Siemens M55 ko 2003 pa from Fido (manggugulang tulad ng Rogers magkamag-anak kasi)
Me, I just bought my Samsung Omnia last November.. (Bunga ng 13th MOnth) Well, for me it is really a great and complete all-around gadget for everyday transactions.. unfortunately, i have to re-charge it everyday just to keep up. I talked to a friend of mine working for Samsung and I was told to turn-off the 3G service so it won't consume alot of the juices.. But it still, it did not help much.. Now im wondering if i have to buy another phone like V3 just to make sure I have an extra and reliable phone for emergency use. So you need to think first if buying those new phones will really help you be more productive and more efficient..
its normal for smartphones (expecially windows mobile) to have a short battery life.
you'll get used to charging it everyday. I have been a Windows Mobile user since 2002 and I have been charging my phone everyday and all the time while driving. I'm a Smartphone user din from 2002. I love it because of lots of features to load on it. My old unit Amazing Phone got it natural dead. Now i got a new one Motorola Q 9H. Well its still Amazing that i can used it for my PC backup files because it's a Window base. specially the Office applications. I happy with my new unit. Yes the Battery dont stay long if you are a Heavy user.
even 2009 looks like a touchscreen year looking at the new smartphone models due to come out.
but the iPhone's success is due to its Capacitive Touchscreen and UI, other manufacturers improved their UI but still uses the old and cheap resistive touchscreen which is good for countries like India and China but for the English speaking market, the capacitive touchscreen is the only way to go. DITO SA CALIFORNIA REGULAR LANG ANG CELL. NGAYON LALO NA YUNG MGA TOUCH SCREEN KAYA IN THE FUTURE LAHAT NG CELL. PHONE DITO TULAD NA RIN NG MGA REGULAR LAND LINE KAHIT ANO PANG KAGANDA NG CELL. PHONE MO DITO SA U.S BALE WALA BAKIT KAMO GANON NAGBABAYAD KAMI NG BILL PARA SA CELL. PHONE DI TULAD DIYAN SA P.I PAG NAUBOS NA YUNG LOAD ANOTHER LOAD NA NAMAN DITO SA CAL. BY MONTHLY ANG BAYAD.
IBA LANG ANG SISTEMA DITO SECURE ANG CELL. PHONE DI TULAD DIYAN SA ATIN TALAGA NAMAN WALANG AWA PANGHOHOLDAP NG MGA HOLDAPER AT SNATCHER NG CELL. PHONE DAPAT SA GANYANG TAO PAG NAHULI PARUSANG ARABO ANG PAIRALIN PARA MADALA. Nick i agree with you!!!
Parusang Arabo kailangan sa pinas tingnan natin kung may holdaper pa, hahahaahahahahah....Pugot lahat kung san mo gusto...ma touch screen o N5110 basta di galing sa nakaw ok yun...ang kailangan may load yung phone!!!at me pera ang bulsa....remember phones model madaling maluma within 3 to 6 months so be wise to buy one which really fit your needs. ako 2 ang iphone ko,naka plan lahat. ung isa nakatambay lang.dami ko ng mga gadgets eh,like n95, n70.wla lang di ko na sila lahat ginagamit.kasi pag ginamit ko sa labas mahoholdap lang sa akin.lol.nakakasawa na mga phone ngayon.yeah, tama yong iba pangyabang lang.pero para sa akin dun ko ipinagyayabang sa kaaway ko at kakilala, kasi kung dadalhin o ipapakita sa people of the phil.hindi ka nmn nila kilala eh.'who cares?'so what kung in ka? meron din nmn kakayanan ang iba.malay natin nakaw pala ang celphone na gamit?diba? so dun ko ipagyayabang sa kakilala ko kasi para malaman nila in ako..at totoo, kaya kong bumili ng celphone! un lang...

ang matapang harapan magsasalita, hindi nakatago sa likod ng computer.!! my husband got me a 16gb omnia. however, aside from texting and calling, i use it only for my documents. i dont use the browser nor the camera and radio. i also dont use the business card reader. i want to downgrade but only to a touchscreen phone w/ virtual qwerty keyboard. the LG cookie would be a good downgrade for my purposes. may i know if it's messaging is in chat mode? i am used to that kind of messaging since i had a treo previously for 3 yrs. thanks
Mga Bro. Material lang yang pinagaawayan niyo, Its comes and go!!!! kaya maging masaya tayo kung anong mayroon tayo.
Wag tayong paalipin sa mga yan. Tnx. Mabuhay...... singit lang mga bro...last month bumili ako ng lcd v series 32 inches after a month ayaw n nyang mag on kahit standby power wl.it took almost 2 weeks to fixed kc holiday d2 sa saudi.does psp slim type or cellphones nakakaapekto sa lcd. after ko kasing bilhin try ko lahat gadget ko psp, speakers, dvd players and a friend of mine told me n dont left our phones or charge it besides our lcd. nagtatanong lang po para sa karagdagang kaalaman...slamat..mabuhay ang pinoy...
This will clearly give the reason why Philippines is always a poor country and no chance of improvement unless if a civil war will happen.
